Love this box!!!! The Aeldari Ranger looks like she just jumped down from the pole, so hard to take that pose seriously. The beastmen are dynamic and feral, the traitor guard have some great poses and are generally what I would imagine many have hoped for a great while now. Love the Chaos Marine boss and other Marines as well. Glad they went for a subdued design with the legionaries and the Champion looks menacing. My only gripe is that despite liking all of the heroes, none of them really calls out to me as the one I’d like to play. But taken as a whole probably the most exciting release in years for me!

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

I was up for more then 24 hours. I got bored of waiting. I slept.

Anyway, woke up to all'a this nonsense, so... what have we got.

Eldar Ranger: I'll say I was surprised just how very female she is. I think the mini looks great though.
Preacher: Hot damn that is an incredible miniature. He's like a hyper-crazy bionic version of Kyrinov. Fantastic stuff.
Missionary (if that's what she is... and if she is a she): Another fantastic miniature. Love the pose, the suitably silly/awesome flamesaw (I'll call it that 'til we know what it is).
Ratlings(!): They're adorable. I actually really like them. Some people seem down on the idea of Ratlings being involved in this. I think it's a good thing to include.
Mr. Robotto: Cool miniature. Interesting design. Hope it's something really old.
Traitor Guard: Tremendous.
Renegade Psyker: Gross, excellent.
Ur-Ghuls: They're plastic. That's impressive enough.
Beastmen of Some Variety: Not a good enough look.
New CSMs: What the hell size base are they on? 40mm? They look enormous, but they also look like CSMs. I suspect they're PrimaChaos Marines, as there will never be another regular Marine release again.
CSM Commander: Very characterful miniature. Cool lookin' hammer.

The pictures of the whole set show off what appear to be bigger rooms, but the pile'o'hexes off to the side still appears to be groups of single hexes or 3 hexes. We'll need a lot more in depth shots before I'm sold on the tiles. Yes, I'm very picky about that kind of thing.

2018 CSM look worse than Dark Vengeance one. Very generic pose, and their wrist are about to burst.

Yeah I think the pose look super awkward too. Take aim or holding a rifle in 2 hand pose would have been fine. My prefer pose is kneeling on some scenery taking aim, like Illic Nightspear.

Except Ilic isn't aiming his rifle, he's holding it out to side very much like the female Ranger. The thing that I get from the Ranger pose is one trying to highlight a swift, graceful, agile being. The pose is very much a "dancer" pose, which is often exaggerated to show fluid movement (many dancers have to exaggerate movement so that people way back in audience can appreciate the movement). A static pose looks so "off" for many elves. That's probably why I like the Harlequin models.

Yes I am ware that Illic is not taking aim, I mean the kneeling part similar to Illic,(or the Death Jester) but perharp I should write a longer sentence next time.

Favorite model: the new Sister of Battle. idk that she isn't officially a Sister of Battle because you know exactly what model I am talking to when I say “the new Sisters of Battle”, so I made my point.
Least favorite model: the eldar ranger. Pose looks absolutely terrible to me (or maybe it's because of the point of view they chose for the picture ?), the weird stockings thingy looks very out of place.
Like most of the model, not found of the basic CSM, the ur-ghuls are a lot of wasted potential because the basic design is great but the pose are weak, especially with duplicate, the renegade psyker looks ace. Navigator is interesting.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

*head asplode*

Damn. Apart from the Chaos Marines sticking with chibisize and the GW Studio take on robots continuing to leave me cold relative to the FW style, every goddamn thing in that box is appealing, and a lot of it is downright exciting.

The Renegade Guard are just...

Though they really do emphasize just how derpy the old plastic Cadians are.

The Ministorum Preacher and the "missionary" lady(?) are amazing. The floaty Chaos leader dude is both awesome on its own merit, and looks like it will finally make converting plastic Daemonhosts easy. A complete triumph on the basis of the miniatures alone, if the game turns out good as well I'll be extra happy.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

Yeah, I'm sorry but Primaris have spoiled me, the poses of those chaos marines, even if the detail is more than fine, are underwhelming to say the least.

I was expecting something more similar to Dark Vengeance Chosen or DeathGuard marines, not... "Normal Chaos Marines but with a little more detail".
Of course, if the new multipart plastic box is like that I assume it will make many people happy. Just a new version of the same box (Like the tactical change or the new Tau firewarrior box) instead of a primarization of normal chaos marines.

Wow, couldn't disagree more, honestly. I think they look incredible! These look exactly the way that I'd expect non-Chosen Chaos Marines to look when sculpted in the same style as Dark Vengence.

I mean, they're also surely simplified poses relative to what we should expect from the full multi-part plastic kit.

Looks to me like the new CSMs are bigger than the current lot but smaller than primaris. Can’t wait to get these in hand and painted up.

Yep, there's a comparison floating around out there. About the same scale as Plague Marines / TS

Two disappointment stand out to me.

A) The robot has an assault cannon/mini-gun...this trend needs to die in a fire. We have 40K, a tremendous universe of possibilities and yet every GW design has the 1980's action movie obsession with miniguns. Really gets old (not to mention they rarely have an ammo feed appropriate for the gun). Unless you're wearing an MTV t-shirt, I don't want you carrying a minigun.

B) The CSM. This is a huge wasted opportunity. They're almost carbon-copies of the aesthetic from Dark Vengeance...just...larger and more boring. GW has finally put mass production behind things like MkIII and MkIV armour...they did a great job incorporating it in the Death Guard models, and yet we get another "generic Chaos" mark of armour that is kinda...nothing. I really wish GW would embrace the Horus Heresy origins which would look great on CSM models. Also..throw us some new helmets, or some old school bolters, or at the very least some chain mail bits, etc. The poses and styling of the new CSM seem really lazy...and not something I think was worth waiting for. I feel like someone totally different designed the traitor guard which are fresh, and interesting. I hope the new CSM kit (if one is indeed en route) is not based on this generic Chaos aesthetic they've been drowning in lately. The Lord, on the other hand, looks fantastic.

@ Elbows : I get the disappointment. I think it has less to do with not embracing the Horus Heresy and more to do with working from the assumption that veterans of the long war have their own resources to Produce weapons and armor and the designs have evolved and also been altered by exposure to the warp. The plague marines of the death guard are less disposed to concern over maintaining or improving their equipment, so their armor and weapons have a more cobbled together and patchwork look that has at its base their original mark of legion armor. Just my two cents.

Looking forward to reviews of the game play. The minis look super awesome but I want it to be as good as Calth or Overkill and better than Silver Tower.

I also wonder if GW will make the Rogue Trader crew a possible option as heroes.

If the RT release was not so recent I would have said this was a perfect time to release both sides separately as extra heroes and hostiles.

Loving the look of this so far, great variety and interesting models. The only real miss is the Ranger whos pose is too much like Corvus Belli or Raging Heroes for my tastes. Gonna be interesting to see how the actual games plays and whether it has some longevity to it.

Agreed. Dark Vengeance were also way too bus. Normal infantry models should not be crazy like they are.

Looking at the Instagram picture, I’m counting:

2 regular Chaos Marines
Chaos Marine boss
2 Rogue Psykers
4 Ur-ghuls
4 Beastmen
4 Negavolt Cultists
2 Spindle drones
14 Traitor Guardsmen

So that’s already 33 adversary models. That’s a lot more traitor guard than I was expecting!

On the “hero” side, we have

Rogue Trader
Kroot
Eldar ranger
Missionary
Priest
Robot
2 Ratlings
“Navigator”

So that’s another 9. At least 42 models in the box.

There’s also definitely at least one duplicate sprue in the box: apart from the similar marine poses, all Negavolt Cultists and Ur-ghuls look a lot alike in the picture. Definitely duplicates among the guard too.

Chaos Marines and Traitor Guard look really good.

Hope this is a sign of GW stepping away from forcing 8th Edition Chaos to be basically Heresy 2.0. Would love some non-Legion Chaos love, Renegades, Crimson Slaughter, proper old-school mutated Chaos Marines, etc.. to come back.

Well if they want to avoid creating new type of chaos marines ala primaris without breaking scale they can't be primaris sized who are custodian sized who are head taller than space marines

I am disappointed with the ranger, the massive spirit stone doesn't coincide with the rest of the line and the chicken toed pose leaves it very jarring to look at.

Right there with you. The "sassy bad girl" Infinity-esque pose is a major drag. Totally out of character with the line and the aesthetic

I couldn't put my finger on it but you're right, it's very Infinity-esque.

Odd how there are no necrons though. You'd think they would be all over a blackstone fortress, considering how those were Old One weapons platforms. Unless that got retconned.

Why would Necrons be all over it if it's an Old One weapon?
