The Evil Dead (the first one)- I had forgotten how sympathetic and human Ash was. You can see his soul being splintered by the horrors the undead vist upon him until he becomes the merciless, wisecracking chainsaw handed angel of death of the later films and series. But here, he's really just a teenager in love, who is willing to hope against all the odds that maybe his girlfriend is somehow miraculously better. Very interesting watch with the weight of the sequels, otherwise a rather drawn out, very bleak 70s horror flick.
Well worth a rewatch to remember how it all started.

Catwoman (2004)
What's there to say? It's a silly movie about a feline floozy.
I only heard about it until now. I don't know. I was led to believe the movie would be worse. Now it's not a good movie as such, but I found it pretty entertaining. The CGi is the biggest letdown. Textures and stuff are fine for the time, but the movements just look off.
On the bright side, there are plenty of actual cats in the movie. That's good.
Hardly the worst DC movie I've seen.
BobtheInquisitor wrote:Langoliers the novella is quite enjoyable.
Langoliers the miniseries is a so-bad-it’s-good classic thanks to the dynamic duo of Bronson Pinchot and cocaine. So many of his scenes are gold it’s hard to list them all. The line of the movie is, of course, this:
Edit: oh hey, someone made the Pinchot/Toomey cut:
Check out his business table delusion with Stephen King near the end. Classic.
Yeah. For someone who's overtly written as an unlikable ass, he's pretty fun. And just about the only energetic thing in it.

Tron: Ares (2025)
Another trip into the world of Tron, which confidently continues the wonder and concerns of the previous two films. The music and vfx are quite frankly awesome and the new cast are at least decent.
I had a great time and feel that the 15 year wait was worth it. Only thing missing...is Bruce Boxleitner, as he played the titular character of the series!

The Mist
A father and son head to the local supermarket after a powerful storm sweeps through town, but an eerie mist traps them inside.
A film mostly remembered for its ending (Which still hit like a ton of bricks even though I knew it was coming), the rest of it is pretty good too. It might be following the well worn trope of "Actually, the real monster is man." but it does it very well.

The ending is why my wife will never watch that movie again. It’s funny that the original story’s ending is somehow both darker and more hopeful. And it makes the short story much easier to revisit again and again.

Canonball Run is on Prime. The cast is absolutely mental. The plot is paper thin, the innuendoes are running thick and fast.
Roger Moore playing a rich family scion who thinks he’s Roger Moore as James Bond. Sammy Davis Junior,l Dean Martin, Jackie Chan… I mean what the heck?

King was "totally down with" Darabont's idea for the ending from the beginning, despite it differing from the novella's more ambiguous conclusion.

I just finished The Menu. A movie where people just accept the fact that they are going to be murdered, and seem generally okay with it, and just hang out until the end of the movie.
Anna Taylor-Joy was mediocre at best, and I do not wish this film on anyone.
I'd rather watch Morbius again than the Menu.
Yes. Funny story....
We saw this one by accident when it was in the theatres. It & whatever we were intending to see were playing right next to each other. We were chatting heading down the hall & didn't notice we'd turned into the wrong door. Go in, 3/4 through the adds & trailers the GF comments "I thought we were going to miss most of this crap?" We collectively shrug & figure maybe the movies starting late for some reason. Neither of us ever considered we were looking at the wrong screen....
A hushed conversation some minutes in: "Isn't that the girl from that Chess movie we watched awhile back (Queens Gambit, Netflix)" "Yeah." "She's in this?" "I guess..."
We continue to watch.
What we're watching is definitely NOT what we'd intended to see.
"What is this?" Quietly checks phone.... "something called The Menu. We're in the wrong theatre."
By this point the original movie had been playing for a good bit, so we decided to just watch this one.
:(
And you know what? I can't remember what we'd originally aimed to see. Even though I know we saw it the next week. But I remember The Menu. :(

I, too, dislike Kubrick’s Shining, although I see why it has the acclaim it has. I thought the book was solidly mid, but got more out of it than I got from the movie. I only remember a handful of scenes from the book, and none of them made it into the movie.

Wasn't that mostly because King sees Jack Torrence as a self-insert character though, and doesn't like that he went from being a good man brought low by his inner demons to a thoroughly nasty piece of work?

In terms of bad adaptations?
The Watch.
OK, it’s a TV Series and not a movie. It also claims to be an adaptation of Pterry’s Discworld.
It’s…not. At all. Oh the character names are there, but that’s about it.
However? Under its own branding, it’s actually….not at all bad.

In fairness hollywood is very good at showing people a big pot of cash and scary lawyers, contracts and stuff that confuses them or misleads them.
It's why you tend to see a greater number lose creative control. I think its also just a thing that if you basically don't give a LOT of creative control of the film over, they basically won't sign a contract. So unless you're a very big name doing REALLY well and have some great lawyers on your side - then chances are you'll end up losing creative control and having risks of bad adaptions.
Plus early scripts might well be utterly different from what gets finally put into production; from what gets filmed and from what leaves the cutting room as the final production.

Alan Moore had no control of the rights to Watchmen. DC has full control and does whatever it can to make sure Alan Moore has no control or make any money from Watchmen.

In which aliens take over a small town radio station, and start abducting wimmins.
This isn’t a film I’d previously heard of, but man am I enjoying it.
A modern B-Movie through and through. The alien’s robots are adorably goofy, and pretty well made for the complete lack of budget. I particularly enjoy the random music videos that form part of the abduction process. Apparently, scored by Blue Oyster Cult. Which is quite something!
This is exactly the sort of late night telly chaff I used to live for in pre-internet days.
I’m watching it on Blu-Ray, because of course I’ve bought a film on a whim. You can also find it streaming in the UK with Full Moon Pictures sub on Prime.
If you like goofy goofball silliness movies, this might very well please.

A villain who can become anyone? It's a fun movie and I believe there are 2 or 3 more I haven't really gone digging to find out yet.
The movie opens with a very unique jewelry heist. The characters are decent.
Over all it's very venture brothers just not as wild. Some of the landscapes and at least one car remind me of a bond film but I couldn't say which one.
I will be looking around for the next two and see where that goes.

Yesterday evening it was another re-watching of the now classic Shaun of the Dead.
Story still holds up, the jokes still pretty much land, and surprisingly (to me), the special effects still held up. Like, when Daff gets ripped up by the Zeds (don't call them that!), it still looks convincing in a movie sort of way.
and because auto play is a thing, the streaming platform shortly after auto-played Hot Fuzz. . . we will likely be finishing the last third this evening.

Honestly I never quite got the revelation with Shawn of the Dead that others got - it was entertaining but for me relied a little too heavy on pub-jokes that kinda felt like they were done and dusted fairly fast.
Individually there's a good many great scenes and such but it always felt like it was just just shy of being an awesome film
Hot Fuzz meanwhile just nails it - it's awesome and just works start to finish!
The 3rd one (which I always forget the name of) just - well honestly its pubjokes again however its only pub jokes and becomes fairly forgettable. What I really wish is that there was a 4th film which was set in the post-apoc world that we got 5mins of at the end of that iflm - that to me seemed far more engaging.

A 2025 Straight to Streaming movie. Most notable star is Linda Hamilton.
Dakka. I’m gonna level with you. I put this on for a laugh. The thumbnail/cover reminded me of overly earnest 80’s and 90’s Sci-Fi Mockbusters. I couldn’t resist,
Yet? By Gum This Is A Corker.
Half hour in, and we’ve had a fantastic and protracted street shoot out. Then to set and dressing design that put me in mind of Alien and Aliens (both terrific) married to Cube (also terrific), with more than a soupçon of Predator and Predators.
Like Cube, we so far don’t really know more about what’s going on than the protagonists. A rare treasure in movies, I’m sure you’ll agree.
It is wearing its influences on its sleeve, and proudly so. But thus far it’s in the same way as Chronicles of Riddck (silly excellence) in that against all odds and expectations? It Is Working, and is more than the sum of its parts.
It’s streaming on Prime for free. Please please please, I implore you. Give this a fair shake. It’s really enjoyable! So much so it’s feeding my mind with ideas for a sci-fi military RPG type game.
