And a week flies by!

However I've managed to finish the CSMs now. All based and everything.

I tried zenithal shading on these guys, but you can't really tell under the washes also a little bit of attempted light sourcing on the shoulder pad. I'm happy with how they turned out really. Not looking forward to coming up against them Blackstone side though

Hmm. Not sure what I'll work on next. I could go back and finish the 4 spare drones that are half done and wait for the next monthly comp. Or rest for a few days or do some building... decisions decisions

Some nice colour combinations there Flinty.

Interesting lighting effect on the bases as well.

It probably will not be surprising for me to say that i absolutely love those colors. But I'm saying it anyhow.

Thanks guys

I'm going to.run this kind of basing over everything except the spindle.drones, which I couldn't work.out how to attach to a base securely without the solid tabs! The board pieces speak of triangular/hexagonal shapes and weird glow, and I like blue, so there you go. The drones are purple, so I might do some in green as well. The Negavolts.maybe. hmm food for thought.

Regarding turquoise, I'm thinking of getting the lord done up with proper zenithal.shading, so he would rock the base colour with no washes. I'll.see if I can make it work, but regardless? More turquoise incoming soon

I managed to drag myself out of the world of tanks vortex long enough to get some serious exploring done. Finished off an expedition and picked up some nice kit from 0recipice. Exploding ammo should help with the chaff and Rogue Trader boy has a fancy sword allowing trolls in every failed attack. Awesome

Had an entertaining encounter though where an awful lot of traitor guard basically lined up in front of the team in no cover.

So UR wandered over and shredded most of them, with Sniper girl capping the rest

Unfortunately they all respawned in their turn and pinged UR pretty badly.

The spindle drones just hid from me for the whole time, so I left them alone which was a good decision as it turns out because the whole mess of negavoltists respawned again in the final turn.

Good fun. Going to try another expedition tonight.

2nd expedition begins!

Starting off with an ambush from 2 sets of heretic Guard, the brave explorers find themselves surrounded. UR 025 takes some fire from one of the squads.

Thankfully, Draik's skill procs nicely and he gambits to the head of the queue, delaying the second squad until after everyone. Draik vaults straight into the teeth of the second squad and shreds them, with a bit of help from the others.

Shortly afterward a bunch of exploding ammo smashes into the other squad and massacres them as well.

The team picks up the 2 treasures off this location and heads toward the exit, only to run into a couple of undergunned stragglers who suddenly drop in through the gate.

Funnily enough, they don't last very long at all, but as the noble adventurers (and tolerated xenos scum) head to the exit, it turns out one of the heretics wasn't quite dead... until he gets re-stamped on by UR.

And the team.swoosh to.safety

Another fun combat encounter. The combination of Draik's gambit skills and the increased protection and additional destiny dice from Locarno is a winner for me so.far. I don't think Draik has failed to proc the gambit when needed so far.

UR 025 with exploding ammo is also entertaining. Although as it only works off a single shot, I.may switch it over to Amarynthe for cover ignoring shenanigans. Hopefully time.for.more.tonight while planning the next entries for the painting comp.

Cross posting from P&M, a request for feedback

I'm trying some OSL with my airbrush and I was looking for some feedback.

Attempting to get an uplighting effect that will match with a base that looks like this one.

Also attempting to do a super dark greyscale type look as if he's advancing out of the darkness rather than the full colour minions I've done already.

Also some spots of glow coming from systems and bits on his armour. I've tried to follow some advice online about building up the main highlights to white before going in with glazes to get colour. Are they working? Anyone with some expertise to share?

Teehee. Playing about with fluorescent paints on the Lord. Funny.

However seeing as I don't routinely play under a UV light, I'll probably end up pai ting over mostly of it trying to tidy the normal wavelength OSL fixed.

Got all the bases for the next 5 GSd and primed ready for painting. Onward!

Thanks all. Slow progress painting wise, but managing to get some bits done this week. No pics yet, but maybe by the weekend.

However the crew has just returned from another successful expedition into the fortress and have tooled up even more. Thinking of trying for a stronghold next time out, but that will have to wait until after Easter I think due to family visit shenanigans.

Wheee. Actual people

Easter guestage is starting to thin out so back on the hobby horse. Forgot to take pics again, but the 5 bases are almost done and nearing the end of colour blocking before the wash monster comes out to play. I'm thinking I might not get Mallex finishd off in time, so I'll concentrate on getting the other 4 done before the end of the month and then see what time is left or if Mallex gets rolled over to next month.

I remembered to take some pics tonight. Progress. Slow progress, but progress nonetheless. I may have overdone it on the rusty metal armour, so after washing it I will likely try to sponge on a bit of colour to break up the brown and rough up the edges with metallics for scuffs and wear. Following the rough trail from before in terms of the rusty metals I used on the beast men and the teal and red from the CSMs. Following the example of someone whis name I've forgotten, I'll break the guardsmen into squads of 8 and 6 to.match the most common hostile draws using the teal and red as squad designations.

After a burst of progress I've managed to finish my BSF sergeants and psykers. Nowhere near finishing the big man, so I posted these guys to the painting comp.

Most happy with - the shading on the cloaks, helmets and coats. The transitions are a little rough but I think this is the first time I've gone through so many shades and highlights on anything other than grey

Least happy with - the psyker faces. I was trying for a green eldritch glow, but what I have is a bit of a scrubby mess. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix then I'm all ears...

Flinty,

The BSF sergeants turned out quite well.

I see what you were trying to achieve with the psyker faces. You might try more paint and drybrush out from their eyes.

Cheers,

Thanks guys. Good advice. I was also thinking another light green wash just to.get some definition back around the eyes and nose.

Updated the front page with the most recent.completions, and it turns out I'm halfway there on the servants of the abyss. Yaaaay for me. Not sure when I'll get tot he heroes to be honest. Planning on replacing a couple, primarily the eldar girlie with an infinity model that I think looks way better than the awkward half stepping dancing queen but shares a lot of the same aesthetics. Also I think I'll replace Draik with a.model from the HeresyGirls KS that I've just been involved with. Same type of look and weapon loadout without the over the top 18th century getup and shoulder dead thing.

Great work on the sergeants, the textures on the rust and the receiver of blue dudes gun are particularly nice. Top work!

Thanks, gobert. I'm definitely happy with the rust. Entertainingly the texture on the laspistol is actually part of the plastic. It's only now I've looked really closely that I've realised the weapon furniture on the traitor guard stuff is textured like wood. Not sure where they get the wood from having been stuck on a cruiser and a wacky alien fortress in the uncharted reaches of space... hence I've gone for a more metallic finish, with rusty bits to taste.

Anyway, the brush war continues with the next monthly comp.

Red Sarge's squad is up next. To be the smaller squad with 6 members including the sarge, nearly complying with the painting comps.entry limit

Includes the regulation flamer dude and I've added just one other cc guy. That means the larger squad will be a 50 50 split between ranged and cc, but I think that will be ok.

Hoping for a reasonably quick turnaround with these guys now that I've worked out the scheme then with a bit of luck the inspiration will help.carry me onto finishing off Mallex who is just about visible in the background, half done and upside down :(

Progress pics. Mostly through blocking in colours now. Still.got the Metallics to.go.and a few.details like straps.and belts. Still, progress is progress. On hold.for a couple of days while.im off to the big smoke for work.

In other news I backed a weird.little.painting widget that seems to have scraped in on Kickstarter. Due October, so.probably too late for this set of models, but exciting nonetheless

Tha is for the comment.

Are they unusual? I've basically.gone through some of the vaguely earthy and militaristic looking colours i have kicking about. Sharing the same.pallette of cloth should help.tie them together, while still looking rag tag and decrepit, stealing fabric wherever they can to keep dressed. Basically going to.match the psykers, beastmen and sergeants posted above here

Yeah but generally you suspect the colours of traitors to be rather muted, dirty and or darker because of that (well except slaanesh) That said, you pulled it off, which i applaud you.

Edit: looked at it again, it's the Blue / Orange brownish difference which stands out heavily but still ties them toghether well.
Hope that makes sense.
