It's a 'partner-event-only' model, being sold at indie conventions and the like.

I think Adepticon is the first chance to buy it.

GW: Hello Games Workshop, how can we help you?
Me: I would like to buy that Lieutenant model!
GW: Oh, I'm sorry, it's only being sold at Adepticon this year, you can pick on up there!
Me: I live over 1500 miles from there and cannot attend, could you please let me give you money for one?
GW: I'm sorry, it's an event only.
Me: But, I have this money and I want to give it to you for a product....
GW: I'm so sorry, but you'll have to get it from Adepticon.
Me: But, this is money....

This is why I hate exclusive content, it isn't a benefit to the company, it's a detriment. How many people like me want this, and have money we want to give in exchange, but we cannot because some egg head marketer said "Hurr Durr Event exclusive!"

Hmm - has anyone contacted them recently to ask if there are another events where he's going to be available? Was wondering if UK Games Expo might be one.

Adepticon is his first release.

After that, I suspect Salute, here in the U.K.

I’ll be attending, and likely wearing my Lootin’ Boots

Lieutenant General

From Warhammer Community:

We can also (at last!) show off a very special event-exclusive model. This Primaris Space Marines Lieutenant (first previewed at AdeptiCon) will only be available at independently run Warhammer events next year, starting with AdeptiCon in March. Event organisers are a key part of our hobby – it’s through their tireless work that countless thousands of people across the world get to take part in great Warhammer events.

This model commemorates that tireless heroism and is a special thank you to everyone that’s helped us make Warhammer as awesome as it possibly can be. We’ll be keeping you posted in 2019 as to just where and when you can grab this model for yourself.

So you may be able to get in touch with GW and find out which other events will have this Lieutenant available.

I know a lot of people get their panties in a bunch over this kind of stuff, but I'm simply fine with event or location-exclusive products. It's nice to have special things. It's nice to have things you're desperate to find, locate, acquire. I don't mind at all that there are Warhammer World exclusive models. Good for them, and good for the people who make the trip (or find other ways to acquire them, see above).

I think it's absolute worth it to the people who find a way to get one - to have something special, to have something different. Likely to have a story behind acquiring it as well. 20 years from now it'll be some eBay magic item that people seek out, etc. I think every hobby needs some stuff like that. The more the merrier.

I'd kill to have been able to reasonably afford a copy of Jes Goodwin's Eldar art sketchbook, but I couldn't. It's fine, I'm still happy it exists and jealous of the people who got one. GW doesn't owe me the book, nor the opportunity to buy it.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

And I think that's a bit sad tbh, that someone would be happy about a company using purely artificial scarcity to create an entirely false sense of rarity, that they would welcome being made to feel envious for zero good reason, and that they would eventually enjoy being taken for a ride by profiteering scalperscum.

Luckily these days it's pretty much an irrelevance, making the illusory sense of worth some people derive from this stuff even more laughable - there's the FB group in the short term, "other sources" if you miss out at the time, and given the quality coming out of the fan community these days it won't be long before people start uploading exact remakes of this "exclusive" BS as STLs for home printing.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

Ah, the guy from Conquest; I knew I was forgetting someone.

As to why we're getting so many Lieutenants, it's so they can make an event-exclusive miniature without necessarily needing to make an event-specific unit. That way if I don't get to Adepticon or whatever, it doesn't matter if I miss out on that model.

Of course it's artificial scarcity. It's a manufactured product; the only way it becomes scarce is if the company only makes a limited run of them (which, by the sounds of it, Games Workshop is doing).

Whether you agree with it or not, GW is deliberately creating a bubble to entice people to buy into this model, playing on their FOMO. This isn't the first time they've done it, and it won't be the last. And they're certainly not the only manufacturer to do it either.

As for profiteering, it's supply and demand, plain and simple. They have a product that people will pay for, so they can charge what the market deems a fair price (re: what people are willing to pay).

And you're probably referring to recasters. Yea, it's more than likely they'll get a hand on this and start reproducing it. Which will impact supply and probably reduce the cost that re-sellers can sell at. OR maybe push it higher for "legitimate" copies. Who knows.

I don't object to event-exclusives. As MDG notes above, there're various avenues to get them if you're interested, and I presume they're a nice way for people to remember the day.

Besides, more variety is good. If this is the only way GW has found to internally justify making multiple sculpts for their sheer variety (rather than for in-game mechanics), it's fine with me. I'd rather this than have just one sculpt that keeps turning up – compare the variety of Space Marine commanders in Rogue Trader with (say) 3rd or 4th edition. You kept seeing the same models.

GW has been doing more and more limited access models and I hate it. This is the kind of thing that devolves into pay-to-play.

I’m a bit of a sadist. I love watching people cry about limited run, needlessly expensive things. They don’t need it. It’s a luxury. But they cry none-the-less about how unfair life is.

Most of my characters are kitbashed from left-overs. They’re unique and I love them. I pay *less* for my characters, not more. It just makes me feel superior to other people. I hope GW makes more limited runs on things, so I can feel that way more often.

Ultimately, event-exclusives are intended to serve as an incentive for people to go to the event, and as a bit of promotion for the company that makes them. The 'bubble' in this case is entirely the point. It's not about making others feel envious (although I suppose some people might be attracted to that angle) it's about having something a little bit special.
