Ohhhh... those look fantastic!
And prussian reserve is all my prussian force is lacking. Well, that and cavalry, which the Perrys will provide in plastic this year.
A good year for the champions of Waterloo.

Wow, those look great! And 60 figures for $35 (plus cost of command)? Wow. These should make a big splash.

What else could get the "rear rank" treatment? There are no plastic Austrian Empire "Hungarian" regiment figures at all, nor any of the more minor players.

Fair enough Bob, though, dare I say - give it some time?
For decades I found rank and file ridiculous, especially napoleonics. Colorful uniforms, no cammo, stiff poses and stupid hats with tall feathers *pfff*
Now suddenly I have thousands of miniatures for napoleonics and ACW, colonials etc.
I came to appreciate the kind of warfare and tactics, enjoy painting all those colours and feel awestruck when I see a big unit in marching order - much more then some single model or a skirmish formation.

That's a cool aspect of WA, they have something for everyone.

It seems historical wargaming in general and the napoleonic era in particular is appealing to an older playerbase.

Rank and Flank always appealed to me but I got more interested in historical models around the time I approached my 30's and I've never really cared about the Napoleonic period, but I guess i'll start to feel the bite of the napoleonic bug as I pass my 40-50's

I wonder why that progression seems so common

They certainly look better than Warlord's offerings (those original Landwehr were... rough), and for a much better price. They look comparable to the Perrys (no small feat that). Do you have any recommendations regarding which command packs go well with your sculpting/scale? How do they compare to Calpe, Perry, Warlord, Front Rank, etc?

yuck, prussians....

I'd literally rather have seen Grenzer or any other Austrian infantry then prussians...

Alas, prussians is what we get. Good quality prussians, but still just prussians.

Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Hehehe, yeah, I am still hoping for dutch/belgian line and light, but more prussians is also fine with me.
Honestly, napoleonics is really well covered in plastik, with good figures. It is hard to point out sets that make sense to produce. Sure, I'd like Würtembergers, Danes or Swedish, but they would hardly be viable, sales wise...

Turns out the teaser was for some napoleonic prussians. These are going to torpedo Warlord Games' plastic napoleonic sets, £25 for 60 figures of pretty much the same standard that Warlord do 24 for £20, although admittedly you get some command figures with the Warlord ones.

https://wargamesatlantic.com/blogs/news/preview-napoleonic-prussian-reserve-army-builder-set

Considering command packs are a dime a dozen, its really a non issue

Yeah, agreed. Just trying to be fair. If anything I think these look a little bit more detailed generally than the warlord napoleonic plastic infantry. I need a Prussian brigade for my Waterloo games so this is a shoo-in

@Lord Marcus:
how about an army builder of ACW Iron Brigade in Hardee hats and frock coat with extra kepi heads?
The IB is pretty popular and not available in plastic, as are troops in frock coat in general. Guess that would sell well.

If they did any sort of simple construction army builder sets for the ACW I could probably sucker my dad into playing.

He has some Perry models but was not a fan of the tiny parts. Plus he much prefers the "toy soldier" style marching poses too.

ACW long coats, march attack would also fit the bill. Not represented in plastic, visible in half of the battle paintings, on both sides...
I would avoid all the stuff done by the perrys already though, as they are top notch. So no more shell jackets etc.

Army builder sets are a fantastic idea, but there are few topics that lend themselves to it. most napoleonic, ACW, AWI etc. are alraedy present.
The more stiff ancient and medieval poses, Hoplites, Romans, shieldwalls are also already done to death...
Maybe a low fi sci fi armybuilder with generic rabble militia that would pass as Chaos cultists? One needs a lot of those at least and the five GW ones are monopose as well.

Sure, a lot of these have been done, but not all of them are done as cheap monopose alternatives. Seven Years War, Spanish Succession, Napoleonic Bavarians would be popular, Ottomans of any color would be welcome, ancient Persians, Biblical armies, German/Italian wars of unification, Medieval/ancient China/Korea, ashigaru would all be reasonable choices that haven't been done yet.

I think all of these would have a certain audience (some more than others, certainly) without stepping too deeply into preexisting markets. With that said, if the product is good and affordable, they shouldn't hesitate to go into the bigger fields. Napoleonics and acw are monsters in historical wargaming, so that's clearly where the money is.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I'd love some plastic Assyrians for example, but I think stuff like that deserve regular multipose boxes. The armybuilder concept only looks good with hoards of similar posed, similar looking, rather static figures. Also the mould requires a standing or marching pose.
But now that you mention it... some proper plastic Samurai and Ashigaru would be nice as well... The WGF ones are fine, but far from perfect. I think WA could blow them out of the water.

Oddly enough what I'd really like with Napoleonics currently is the exact opposite with Silver Bullets or whatever coming out I'd like some multipose dynamic plastic skirmishers.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

The upcoming 95th will get you off to a good start then.

Change the colour scheme and you'll have passable Baker rifle armed Portuguese Cacadore troops.

And some updates. Who doesn't like the idea of some nice generic sci-fi soldiers?

New Death Fields Faction: Cannon Fodder!
A new faction is coming to the Death Fields circuit: Cannon Fodder!

Although recruiters have hunted for the finest warriors of Earth and other worlds to add to team owners' stables over the centuries, not everyone is suited for the relentless and brutal never-ending cycle of battle, death, and rejuvenation that defines the Death Fields. Some refuse to fight, some slowly go insane, some just lose the will to live.

And there are the failed teams. The warriors who just can't cut it or whose strategy, training, or cunning have fallen behind new, younger franchises.

Never willing to lose revenue, teams can generate one last bit of profit by selling or trading their broken players to become part of the Cannon Fodder.

The Cannon Fodder are the misfits, rejects, rebels, and failures combined en masse to take on another team one last time. These matches almost always end in their utter defeat but the spectacle of the horde of Cannon Fodder making one last, desperate attempt for survival can generate some of the highest ratings of any match in a season.

We will have more to show over the coming weeks prior to release.

I'd like to see a different angle on the helmet head option, head on they look a bit odd to me.

But yeah, generic enough to nicely slot into all sorts of roles.

Jumpsuits are an interesting choice.

First things that spring to mind are V visitors and penal legions. Or James Bond cannon fodder.

A shame there's no masked "faceless minion" type head included. Everything else looks like it works.

I really want to like the cannon fodder, but there is something about the jumpsuit legs that isn't working for me.

I think they need more distinct/sharp wrinkles to look good, especially around the crotch. They just won't paint up nicely as is.

Oh, I like those cannon-fodder guys. Especially with the penal legion heads with the collars. They can easily make RT human bombs as well.

I like the poses on the bodies. The wrinkles might look a little wonky on the renders, but that could be less of an issue on the finished, painted miniatures.
