Glad to see the Cannon Fodder finally scheduled for release. I bought the extra HtH combat bits from Victoria Miniatures earlier in the year when it seemed like the Cannon Fodder would have an earlier release. I assume the current cargo backlog put paid to that.
Anyway, does anyone know where I could get oxygen tank backpacks? Neither Anvil Industries, PuppetWars, or Victoria Miniatures has such a thing, and a few Shapeways searches came up with oxygen/fuel tanks for vehicles, but not a for 28mm human figure. Most of these boys will be Penal Legion with a mix of long-arms and close combat weapons, but I want a few astronauts too.

Maybe a scale model company, like for railroads and such?
I'm picking up a few boxes, since these seem pretty versatile. I'm definitely going to try to find some hardhat heads for the Bond henchmen idea someone way up thread had.

For oxygen tanks, maybe some plastic tubing cut to size?
But yeah, combat astronauts would be very cool.

The Cannon Fodder set did not interest me much until the astronaut idea popped up, although I can see why these would be popular with others. The bodies and helmets seem good for astronauts but yeah oxygen packs and different (smaller, less chunky) would be nice. Maybe they would kit bash well with Stargrave minis?

That might have been me. Now hardhats I did find on Shapeways. Have not bought from that vendor, so I can't speak to the quality or sizing, but ... https://www.shapeways.com/product/MHRU73TW3/safety-helmet-x16-1-56?optionId=139808751&li=shops
Thanks for the suggestion.

Ah, that's also a good suggestion, and that I might have in the bits box already.
Come to think of it, combat astronauts were featured in the Bond movie, Moonraker. So Bond minions everywhere!

For oxygen tanks just look for someone with a Cadian imperial army. The backpacks for the flamers should fit your needs very well and you have tons of leftovers from all those Cadian sprues.
You just might want to shave of the skull and bones symbol (I believe)

I'm confused as to why they seem to have seven rifles per sprue, which seems way more than necessary. Does each box consist of six body sprues and five arm sprues? That would give you enough rifle arms for every body, and make sense of why there are six identical heads on the arm sprue.

It looks like there's also a drum magazine and scope which can attach to the basic weapon to turn it into a designated marksman's rifle or light support weapon / automatic rifle kind of thing, which is a pretty smart way to get some options without using much space on the sprue. But yeah, they do seem rather focussed on being just basic riflemen (or laser-men, I guess) which is in keeping with their general 'cannon fodder' theme.
The plasma gun seems like an odd choice for the only special weapon; there are already a few of them in the DF range, and they don't strike me as the cheapest option, suitable for handing out to the cheapest troops. From the perspective of using them in 40k, I would think that something like a flamer or grenade launcher would be more suitable, given that is what you generally see in conscript squads (the AM unit which seems most suited for this kit), and which are actually options for chaos and genestealer cultists.

Talking 'bout the Plasma, i do like how it's clearly an Einherjar plasma, making it obvious it's simply looted off the corpse of one of their opponents. It's a nice touch.

Shows how long it's been since I played my AM. Could have sworn they had access to special weapons last time I did, but it seems that hasn't been the case since at least 7th edition... maybe I just completely imagined it, since I never took them.

Well, given how they cost half a point less than regular Guardsmen, and suck much more, it's not like you had a reason to.

Well Victoria has the chem tanks, but have you considered kit bashing some Cadian flamer tanks, trim the skulls and crossbones off, get some thin copper for hoses going from tank to mouth (or back of neck/suit, trim the valve off the bottom of tanks and attach it to the top. I've done it before on a few cadians and it looks alright.
Although that was for a more aquatic theme, astronauts may require some form of thrusters.

As per the lack of webbing, non-variety of weapon options seems fitting for fighters who are there solely to die.

Those are nice.
I’m also thinking of adding some Mantic GCPS backpacks with the thrusters, or just some of the canisters from the Eisenkern accessory sprue to complete the 90’s Sci fi costume look. Those masks look perfect for Babylon 5 or maybe Stargate.

Re: Oxygen tanks. Thanks for all the suggestions. Will first try a friend who does have a Cadian IG army (but he usually does not keep spare bits ...) Then either plastic tubing or Mad Robot.
I'd forgotten about that Victoria Minis has Chem tanks, but when I checked them out the bottom part is obviously fabric. So same problem as with the WGA backpacks in the box.
Looking at the Apollo moon landing suits, the oxygen tanks are concealed, so a rectangular backpack with some gadgets would work, and no obvious organic material.
"The Block II Apollo suit was the primary pressure suit worn for eleven Apollo flights, three Skylab flights, and the US astronauts on the Apollo–Soyuz Test Project between 1968 and 1975."

That's not Wargames Atlantic's problem.
The most direct proxy 40K use for these would have been as penal troops.
What options did Imperial Guard penal troops have?
My point of view?
Fewer options gives me six more troops in the box than the Les Grognards box. Very suitable for what is most likely going to be a cheap horde army for Death Fields.
Every three troops in the Les Grognards box gave me a flamer, a melta type weapon, a grenade launcher and a plasma gun. As a regular buyer of Wargames Atlantic products, I have more than enough spare weapons from Les Grognards and Einherjar boxes to make up for the lack of options from the Cannon Fodder kit.
My plan was to use these as Cultist type troops for 40K. I have an expansive bits box to kit these models out with heavy weapons, special weapons and webbing/ backpacks.

I'd have to agree, they're guys in jumpsuits with large and unsophisticated looking las-guns. They scream cheap cannon fodder, which is what they're meant to do. More warm bodies for such a force rather than kit is exactly what it says on the packet. If you want good troops you've got Les Grognards, Raumjager and soon to have space British.

Yea, it isn't the issue of WGA. They are conscript/ penal troops. Their proxy in 40k as Conscripts, which don't get special weapons.

I think everything about the kit is pretty much perfect, with the exception that I would have preferred a LAW/rocket launcher weapon instead of the plasma gun, to complete the "near future chaff" look they have, and an under-barrel grenade attachment for a fireteam leader. They've got a SAW, scope, and rifles, so a light antitank weapon would have been the icing and an under-barrel grenade launcher bit for a rifle would have been the sprinkles.

They have an arm holding the lasgun upright that looks pretty simple to convert using an Eisenkern rocket launcher. For the under-barrel grenade launcher, I’ve had some success using the Eisenkern cylindrical canister and the top of a stick grenade as the barrel.
Once I get the kit I’ll have to see what can be made from its contents. A rudimentary launcher might be made from two bits of sprue glued bottom-to-bottom with trimmed down caps on the ends..?
