Some of us grew up watching Zulu and so have a soft spot for the pith helmet.

Where I grew up, we didn’t have Zulu, but we did have Shaka Zulu.

Pith helmets do less than nothing for me.

Must be a regional thing, I remember the NYC GW store couldn't give their Praetorians away and ultimately sold them for more than 50% off. I got some and promptly lopped their heads off so they wouldn't have pith helmets. Still have one 're-headed' Praetorian in my Mordian force.
Which is odd, being that the Praetorians were Mordian Iron Guard with pith helmets. So GW put a new head on a Mordian body, which you then had to remove to add a copy of the original head back on!

As least for me, I liked pith helmets before seeing Zulu or the WD article. In my teens I used to wear a cheap replica pith helmet. Perhaps the video game Jungle Hunt might have been part of the reason.

Now folks will paint their bulldogs the way they like, but a bit of historical trivia. The Anglo-Zulu War of 1879 and the Anglo-Egyptian war of 1882 were the last time British regulars wore the traditional scarlet coat on campaign. After that it was khaki or grey serge. Pith helmets were white, but were often dyed with tea or other brownish dyes to mute the whiteness when on campaign. Eventually a khaki dust cover was issued. Pith helmets for Home service were black, and had a spike on top like a pickelhaube. The unfortunates sent to face the Martian cylinder in War of the Worlds would been in scarlet with the black pith helmet.

Have been trying to find a image of the Victorian Era Rifle Brigade "the Greenjackets" to confirm or deny if they used the pith helmet, or as a specialist formation they had different headgear. Decided I don't care. There will be pith helmets on scarlet-coated troopers and on greenjackets alike.

Redcoats (Zulu War inspired).
Green jackets (Sharpe inspired).
Khaki (Great War inspired)
Bluey grey jackets (Sudan Camel Corps inspired)
Black with grey trim ( Why not? inspired)

Warlord Games had an article with their Zulu War British painted as Rifles with pith helmets along with some blue jacket Royal Marines from the 1879 campaign.

I thought the War of the Worlds as an anti-colonialist book. Strikes me as weird to use it as an excuse to swoon over some more pith helmeted Brits.

I have to agree. The other minis look awkward somehow.

I think they look better than the grognards/other minis in the death fields range, but yeah the brown trencher looks more approachable than the redcoats.

That, and the "Last Stand at Glazer's Creek" battle report in White Dwarf 222. Widely regarded as one of the coolest battle reports in the history of the magazine. It was a 40K version of Rourkes Drift, Praetorians vs. Orks (notably, using the more badass Gorkamorka orks... in late Rogue Trader/2nd edition Orks were a 100% joke faction).

Yep, its that battle report that did it for me. Didn't grow up with whatever movies, not british so the Pith helmet doesn't hold any special place in my tiny malformed imperialistic heart, etc. But that battle report? ACE.

Wouldn't Khaki just be the uniform they wore in Afghanistan?

I had the same experience, it was... unique. Someone at a gaming shop recommended some weird 2 part plastic glue but I never bothered. I think they ended up in the trash.

I have about 200 of them. Using superglue never had issues, plastic glue was a no go. The plastic is a bitch to work with for converting so other swaping a backpack or a rifle here and there I haven't tried to convert them. On the other hand Prince August sold them for a pitance.

Yes that would work as well.

Mine, however, are Great War with dark green pith helmets and are inspired by the clay kicker miners who built the tunnels at Vimy Ridge . This particular platoon rides Mantic Veermyn Tunnelers rather than Chimeras as an alt-Armoured Fist platoon.

Pulling this one back on topic after I derailed it.

My plans for the models include:

Using Curious Constructs heretic heads to make some more Blood Pact.
Mix and match with the Death Fields accessory sprue.
Use the kneeling figures with left over Les Grognard heavy weapons.
Kitbash with some sci fi camels for Grimdark Camel Corps
Wait for gas mask beret heads to slap me across the face with inspiration...

Keep some back to see what WA come up with next.

Even if they never see a gaming table they're relatively inexpensive enough for me get that cost back in terms of enjoying the building and painting.

In the Friday e-mail, there was a render picture of what appears to be a woman's floor length dress. Looks like 19th century European to me (though I'm no fashion expert), so perhaps Florence Nightingale and the early nurses? Perhaps just generic civilians? Or WGA is producing a Titanic diorama kit, "Women and children first."

I think that's gonna be the female resistance, that was hinted at earlier. Would also connect with the Ooh-la-la comment by WA.

That makes sense. However, floor length dresses were not that common in 30s & 40s womens fashion. I'd expect a mid-length skirt like this on the Nancy Wake figure. I'm not saying you are wrong, but at least to me, floor length dresses for everyday use are for an earlier era in Europe and North America, when women could not even show their ankles! Gasp!

Didn't they hint a set of camp followers once upon a time?

Would they come under the Napoleonics tag or as General Accoutrements?

Ah, that was supposed to be an April Fool's joke, but perhaps WGA changed their mind. Camp Followers as General Accoutrements could sell.

I remember now. Then posters indicated that they could be interested in such a product.

I mean, Indian Mutiny British could always do with some followers to save from the machine gun armed Lizards. Such is the crazy WGA world.

I whole-heartedly second this! I bought a sprue of Panzer Lehr and assembled them without weapons because I needed some noncombatants.

Check Northmen Folk Rabble by Fireforge Games for medieval peasants I made regular peasant but also bandits/cultists from the kit. They are also compatible with Frostgrave for arms/heads swaps.

Got them and they are OK. But far from great. Sculpting is passable, arms are apelike and some of the two handed arms are nigh impossible to assemble.
The partisans are fine for partisans, but I would really prefer non combatants.

Yeah, they were very annoying until I gave the glue more time to act between glueing each arm to each hand. Only after both were complete I did glue them together to the torso. Two handed weapons from their Living Dead Peasants (my favourite FF kit) were so much better.

You mean the ape-people with hands twice as big as their heads and weapons that are way too big and thick?
