Excellent paintwork. Still not liking the sci Fi models. The beret almost works I think. Great to see a scale shot.
On a different track anybody else find the space slavery theme of the Death Fields a real turnoff? That I enjoy Grimdark means I'm not being entirely consistent and it won't keep me from buying the miniatures, but it's definitely a case for me where adding fluff to generic miniatures makes things worse.

Both are great ideas, but the latter in particular. For example, a kit like the Conquistadors is solid for historical use because it's not trying to pack fantasy or scifi upgrades on the sprue. But with STLs, you could put out arms and weapons and backpacks and heads to convert them to any genre, in several small bundles. Contrast that to the Lizardmen, where if you're going for pure fantasy, you feel a bit hampered by the low variety of pure melee weaponry, because there's also bolt-action and automatic rifle arms on the sprue.

I wonder if this could be the answer to the "fantasy with sci-fi bits" and complaints that occur.
Imagine, what would have been a fantasy/sci-fi set (i.e. the ogre set), which has all fantasy stuff on the sprues, but then on patreon you release the sci-fi stuff too, and as it's just digital, you could have polls with the customers, "do you want to see close to modern guns, or grim-dark guns, or OTT sci fi guns" etc.

It depends on how deeply they delve into the misery aspect, for me. Chattel slavery is unfun to read about, but space gladiators are okay. I think I’m mostly on board because so many of the old versus threads online were set up this way, usually with an opening like “One day, Q places 1000 stormtroopers and 1000 Jaffa on Arrakis and makes them fight to the death. Who wins?” It’s a very direct set up to get different groups in conflict.

That's a fair point of view.
I mostly steer clear of historical and most gladiator gaming personally, but that's just me. No judgement on those who enjoy those types of games and I don't feel particularly strong about it or the Death Field's fluff. Been pondering it this morning and I think as well as the possibly-objectionable nature of the fluff, mostly it feels lazy to me.
I shouldn't necessarily expect good writing from folks with an eye for miniature design and business skills. Still, they've managed to produce these great, evocative miniature sets and missed a grand opportunity for engaging narrative. Each set has a very cool aesthetic that sets itself apart from the other sets. What a great chance to make them from interesting planets with interesting backstories. Moreso they could have interesting motivations and the ability to do interesting things and have interesting storylines that intersect with the other factions. Instead all we've got is a near-literal Dues Ex Machina of kidnapped (mostly historical) troops with no agency enslaved by aliens who make them fight to the death. Ugh.
At best it's a nice one-hit ironic commentary on wargamers and their toys, but what comes after the joke?

Shadow Walker wrote:Dear WGA, since we have you here: please stop making fantasy minis with integral bases. There is no need for them on minis, as shown both by you (with your s-f kits or even Lizardmen one), and by other companies producing fantasy minis (GW, Mantic, Fireforge), and they are very annoying to remove (and no, producing the bases that skip the removing part is not a solution, especially if someone prefers the look of other bases). Thanks!
That aside, additional weapons, both melee (axes, clubs etc.) and ranged (slings, blowpipes etc.) for the Lizardmen kit would be great. Some animals used for fantasy gaming could be fun too. For example: rats, giant rats, rat swarms, wolves (which could be combined with a Werewolves similar to your Giant Spiders kit), boars, bears etc.
I will pass along your commentary. thank you for the suggestions.

We've had one poster call for the removal of integral puddle bases.
Now BlackCatto is calling for their continued inclusion.
I smell a discussion.
Suggestion for sci-fi romans + Gladiators has been added to the list.

Yeah, I’d say lazy or basic is fair. It’s not a new idea as a framework for conflict, and it so far has not had anything new or original built onto it other than the choices for the minis themselves. If each of these sets were given a planet or city or something, and each could choose their own management or training regimen, that would give them more agency.
They could make it even darker by stealing the Uplift patronage system and make it so that successful DF teams can choose to “uplift” another group and force them to fight on their behalf, for purposes of vengeance or profit or pride. The. You could get some weird politics and intrigue going based on the webs of patronage and rivalry. Same here. I don’t mind buying the occasional printed bits from McDougall, but if the conversions I want to make become completely dependent on printed parts I’ll just lose interest in those projects. Heads, bling and weapon arms are workable, although not if the weapon arms come in two or more pieces. 3D prints work best when they are quick and easy to glue onto the plastic miniature. Gluing a bunch of printed pieces to each other and one plastic torso….just print the complete mini as one piece.
The alchemy between all plastic bits and plastic glue is magic, and I don’t want to lose it.

More historical kits please?
Maybe some Byzantines, Ancient Indians or an Arab/Muslim army? You could even do Arab death fields with the historical Arabs as a base?

I mean if we are just wishlisting here, Mughal Deathfields, Chinese Deathfields (maybe Qing influenced?), Mongal Deathfields.
Plenty of other wishlistings but those seem like good areas with various influences on them, and would pull Deathfields out of being mostly sci-fi Europe/US.

My biggest wishlist is ww1/ww2 Romanians. They are one of the bigger balkan forces, especially in WW2, and they have basically no plastic kits except for a few 15mm stuff coming soon from Flames of War, and only a handful of metals and resins. Massive unfilled niche, especially considering some games like Bolt Action have rules for them but not a single model, and most Eastern Front games that don't hyper-focus on Russians/Germans have rules for. Bulgarians, Hungarians, and basically all the minor Axis are in the same boat.
On the sci-fi front, space fanatics (could also double as normal fantasy religious fanatics), or space cowboys would be awesome. Even space Miners would be awesome, sorta like heavily armored Cannon Fodder.

@Wargames Atlantic Any word on the Afghan Cavalry? I saw that the in progress page of the website was being redone and it had been a bit since I last checked.
And is there any chance of Saracens, Turcapoles, or Camel riders? There doesn't seem to be much available between Dark Ages and Napoleonics in plastic.

I would really like a deathfield team of combat engineers. Less guns, therefore powertools, explosives, small field artillery.
Their background could be that they are hired by other teams as support.
I also support Chinese, Japanese or Korean themed deathfield teams, there would be lots of options. Samurai with monoswords and plasma blades?
