A company that produces strange, quirky sci-fi plastic figures is producing more strange, quirky sci-fi figures. It's hardly the first sci-fi teamup, the retooled Eisenkern and the Space Nam (and possibly the Ooh Ra?) are all collaborations with other small company IPs
I'm personally rather excited about plastic Quar, they don't strike my personal fancy enough to build them myself, but they've always been exactly the type of army I'd love to fight against. Having them in plastic means that is a lot more likely. And who knows, maybe I'll include a squad or 2 in my IG army

Quar are beyond strange and quirky. Eisenkern got the generic nazis in space vibe going (despite not actually being nazis in terms of fiction) and have enough of a look-crossover going with Star Wars stormtroopers and 40k space marines to comfortably slot into most sci fi settings, and make great imperial guard proxies. Space Nam exist to be Catachan proxies, Ooh-Rah are colonial marines from aliens and can also be used as guard proxies. They all have a reason to exist.
Quar are something else entirely, its a miniscule one man (as far as I know) passion project with very limited following that most people have never heard of and are too specific in look and design to be used for much of anything other than a game nobody has ever heard of or played, at least not without being totally immersion breaking. Throw them into your personal 40k guard army, but a bunch of cartoonishly proportioned sentient alien ant-eaters will always look out of place in an army of grimdark xenophobes.

I hope the Quar come with enough extra heads to use on some halflings or Einherjar, or maybe some Veermyn or Gnolls. I had never heard of them before, but they’re so different and fun I’ll have to get a box.

I could have been more clear, I listed the Eisenkern and Space-nam more as a point that WGA is willing to work with other small companies' figures than to say that those specific kits are quirky sci-fi. Giant spiders with laser rifles are quirky sci-fi. Lizardmen with laser rifles are quirky sci-fi. Landschnecht Ogres with WW2 M1 helmets and giant rifles are both quirky fantasy and quirky sci-fi. Plastic Quar doesn't look out of place from a company already producing the rest of those figures
Prices for the quar metal models will be going up probably soonish based on zombie smith’s recent comments online. Urged me to order a squad of cavalry tonight.
To me, this seems to be another example of WA thinking 'wouldn't it be cool to do' as being more important than 'what will give us a bigger financial return to do'.
Either that or they've got the best market research team in the world.

To be fair, shouldn't we WANT a little more of "wouldn't it be cool to do?" in this industry? I mean, "what will give us bigger financial return" is what caused GW to dissolve Specialist Games and eventually destroy The Old World. I kind of love a company that is willing to put out really strange figures just to put out really strange figures. I've known about Quar for over a decade, but look at how many people in this thread alone never did. Look at how many people said :wow, I may need to get some" that would have never ever ever otherwise known about Quar. And again, Quar has been around for many years.
I always look forward to what WA come up with next.
I'm a big fan of the Bulldogs, Les Grognards and Cannon Fodder.
I have sci fi Lizardmen and Spiders. I have Sharpe's Rifles.
I'm waiting on my Ventrillian Noble Ogryns and Harvesters.
Unfortunately, especially when it comes to a hard plastic range, I'm not sure every company can take too many risks. That's if they can start up in the first place.
Now the sheer variety of model crack available on sites like Etsy makes my mind boggle.

Quar have had a game on Steam and on Play Station 4. They’re an internet sensation
The flora looks cool. My concern now is that it will be an STL file instead of a physical product. All the teaser photos are going to have this problem moving forward.
The more I look into the Quar and their fluff, the cooler I am finding them. It really surprises me that I have not heard of them before.

I'm old enough to remember in service steam trains and I have a Nintendo Wii.
Obviously they weren't enough of a 'Star Wars Kid' level of sensation for me to have heard of them.
Sorry. Even though I own a platoon of the little metal guys that I use for grim dark future, I know that they are a niche within a niche inside a nook stored inside a locked file cabinet at the bottom of the archives with a sign saying Beware of the Leopard on the door.
The steam and ps4 comments are factual. The internet sensation thing just might be overstated.

No apology necessary. You'd be stunned at my levels of ignorance.
Super tempted by some Quar. Not quite sure what I'll use them for but they'd make some pretty good 3rd party forces for narrative scenarios in F28: War Always Changes, so that's probably a start.

It has been said (mainly on facebook) that there will be a way to purchase physical prints directly. The team is working on that.
I'm not sold on the Quar; for my particular sci-fi needs, they'd stand out as too cartoony. To me, they look a bit like they stepped out of Ralph Bakshi's "Wizards" movie.
I am sold on the general principle of doing "quirky" niche releases, though. So bully to WGA for doing the Quar. I hope they find success, and here's to lots more "quirky" sci-fi hard plastics. I have all the standard sci-fi human troopers, in hard plastic from several companies, that I'll ever need.

I believe this quote is from the Zombiesmith Facebook page….
“Hey all! So hopefully by now, you’ve seen the news that we have partnered with Wargames Atlantic to bring hard plastic Quar in 2023!
The first hard plastic release will be a box set that will include a squad of Coftyrans and a squad of Crusaders (plus a couple of extra models), skirmish rules to use them with and some other bits and bobs for play. This will be a new version of Rhyfler’s Pocketbook that has been updated with a new shooting mechanic that makes a gun game more dynamic by rewarding movement and positioning so not everyone turtles up. (Ooo… I need to design the Quar equivalent of a shelled amphibian…)
Wargames Atlantic will be selling models/sprue/frames separate from the main box set if all goes to plan as well. Hudson and I have also discussed future hard plastic sets, so if these do well they will be followed with more.
Along with the releasing of hard plastics from Wargames Atlantic, I’ll be releasing new Crusaders and Coftyrans to go with them. The first month will be is-Caertens and Caertens (Officers) followed by light machine gunners and sharpshooters in the following months. And yes, the tractors are back in 28mm too. I’ll sprinkle in some arm sets and other bits to customize the plastic kits as well. I have 5-6 months of 28mm releases ready and Anthony is busily painting them for the site as I type. The first of these will drop alongside the plastics. Date TBD!
The infantry models released by Zombiesmith will be combinations of metal, siocast hard resin and some printed parts here and there. The tractors will be high-quality resin 3d prints (not FDM) and they look great. I’ll share some pics in the coming weeks. Although if you are in the Quar Facebook group and scroll down you’ll see some pictures of them back when I was prototyping them in 28mm.
These new Quar are around the same height as the first generation of Quar. The new ones are a little thicker than the old as I’ve gone a little more whimsical with them. The metal ones aren’t going away and some of the new stuff I’m working on will work with both generations of Quar. I’ll most likely need to boost the cost of the metal ones in the coming months, as you all know metal went nuts for a while and is back down, some, but I’m not relying on that to continue.”

It's strange to me that there's weird veiled criticism of WA that they are releasing Quar when one of WA's business tenants is OEM work for other companies.
It's not a question of "wouldn't it be cool to do" or "what will give us a bigger financial return", it is entirely "Zombiesmith contracted Wargames Atlantic to make Quar models".
You can literally contact WA and contract them to make whatever plastic models you want.

It's not a criticism. Certainly not on my part.
That only comes if the Les Grognards Raptor cavalry don't come equipped with cheese wheels to mix and match with the wine bottles.
Did you make that up? If so, trademark that baby right now! The world is crying out for Flying Assault Butts in HIPS (well, I certainly am now.)
My son approves this idea big-time. My wife is curious to know exactly how it would work and what a flying assault butt would consist of, besides the butt.
