Well, it is a Defiance kickstarter, not an Infinity kickstarter. I think they might be afraid that if they made the core game optional, they'd have a lot of people pledging just for the discounted Infinity models rather than the new models that required additional cost and time to design. That would result in them losing money, not making it.

I'd like the ninja with the tactical bow to be released separately, myself. It's one of my favorite models in Infinity, and even though I already have one, I wouldn't mind a second one.

I understand that. But the ninja isn’t any easier to get for JSA players now, which it seemed like you were saying.

I wouldn't be surprised to see these reinforcement packs as part of new army boxes for N4. If CB is serious about reducing how many things a store needs to carry for N4 having real army boxes instead of battle boxes would be the way to go.

Weird, right?
Not really that strange in my opinion? I don't really think I would be able to play the game (too many others stacked up), and most of the core models aren't particularly interesting to me, but just about all the models in the Outcast expansion look GREAT to me, so if I could pledge for just that without the core box I would probably do it.

Honestly, I would prefer to be able to get JUST the models without all the boardgame accessories, because shipping costs are a real killer these days, so shipping just a few metal models without a stack of card and plastic accessories that I won't ever use would probably save me a ton of money; I really wish that was an option.

Haqqislam enemy cards and more about Revenant

Welcome to another Infinity Defiance update.

We’ve hit another round number! 800K€! Thank you so much for your support.

We unlocked cards and tokens for Haqqislam, including Tarik Mansuri and Kawarijs.

TARIK MANSURI

Mansuri is a living legend. He was one of the first Khawarij to undergo Runihura, Haqqislam’s foremost gene therapy super-soldier program. His exceptional metabolism and superior fitness were particularly and surprisingly suited to the treatment. Mansuri’s organism reacted to the Runihura formula in unique ways, making the most of each metabolic enhancement and cancelling out potentially harmful oxidation processes. Since that day, his body has barely aged, always in perfect health and always at the top of his game. He has become a colossus, his extraordinary strength tempered by exquisite precision and quick reactions. His mind is always clear, his senses always honed. He can move faster and kill more easily than any man. The utter perfection achieved by Mansuri stands as the greatest accomplishment of the Runihura program, one that has not been replicated ever since.

KAWARIJS

The military-religious brotherhood of Khawarijs, the “Red Turbans”, was founded by a group of HaqqMuztazilite sages to protect Haqqislam from its foreign and domestic enemies. It is a tough, audacious light assault force that recruits its members individually. After a rigorous vetting process, inductees are subjected to Runihura (Destructor), a super-soldier program of intensive genetic enhancement. The main effects of the physical augmentation therapy are increased strength and endurance and enhanced reaction times. Runihura makes every last one of them look like they can subdue a crocodile with their bare hands, but Khawarijs spend as much time studying as training for combat, to the point that they are given the title of ulema, scholars of the Faith. They are highly honored by Haqqislamite society and its army, but their strict code of honor as soldiers of Allah requires them to always be subordinate to Haqqislamite precepts.

Their character is dignified yet meek, ferocious yet magnanimous, devoted but never proselytizing, in a “wise contradiction and perfect balance”. Khawarijs believe that Haqqislam can never triumph by straying from the Word of Allah, of which they are sworn defenders. In their mind, the Word can be as sharp as any sword, but they will not hesitate to resort to actual swords if necessary. As a matter of fact, they are excellent warriors to a man, and a shining example to all other Haqqislamite soldiers. They are a common sight in the retinues of Haqqislamite officers as counsellors and bodyguards, and also in the first line of battle, leading assaults like living emblems of the Haqqislamite virtues of resolve, bravery, and perseverance.

LIFE ON THE DEFIANCE
Want to know what happens on the Defiance between missions? You can find out in this article: Life on the Defiance.

DEFIANCE HERO SUMMARY
The following heroes have been unlocked:

CORE BOX: We all know the heroes of the Core Box: Uma, Cadin, Qiang Gāo, and Jazz. Also the additional unlocked hero’s Trisha and Rahman. They’re all the basic heroes that’ll begin the adventure aboard the Defiance.

OUTCAST: additional heroes have been unlocked, with the first expansion.

Katherine Cho, is a born leader and officer from O-12. Her skills focus on leadership and backing up those with a more active part in the fight. She’ll have a control and support role and is in charge, period.

Raoul Spector is a mercenary for whom lying comes as natural as breathing. As an expert in stealth and melee combat, his skills focus on powering up his specialties.

Fat Yuan Yuan is always happy to fight for dough. There’s nothing more important to him than some nice loot, and he’ll fight tooth and nail to get it.

Uxía McNeill is a living legend and rumored to be one of the best markswomen in the Human Sphere. Her strength is ranged combat, she’s relentless, and no target can escape her. She’s the friend you always want watching your back.

Lei Gong is an expert in heavy weapons. With his high mobility armor, he’s quick and has great offensive capabilities.

Shinobu Kitsune is the master of stealth, a ninja that attacks from the shadows. She is absolutely lethal.

REVENANT: another expansion that presents 4 additional heroes for Infinity Defiance.

Jaan Staar is a Tohaa who’s an expert impersonator. He is equipped with symbiote armor and other biotechnological elements. His absolute loyalty lies with the Spiral Corps.

Kendrat is a renegade Krakot. If you were to look up for the word “soldier” in a dictionary, you’d find her face. An expert in the management of explosives and combat skills. Trouble follows her everywhere.

John Hawkwood is a mercenary officer. A clear leader on the battlefield. His roles include support and control, but he also has great offensive capabilities.

Valerya Gromoz, hails from Corregidor, she is ace with her hacking device. Her offensive skills are a match for her elite hacking skills.

Heroes may be used as you see fit, and you can play with heroes in any combination in both the core game or either of the expansions.

For the perfect narrative, we recommend playing the Core then Outcast, and Revenant. However This is not obligatory and when a new expansion begins, the heroes will “reset” and begin their evolution anew.

REVENANT
Here’s a video update, with the details on the last expansion.

Remember that if we hit the 850K€ mark, Revenant will come free with the PLATINIUM pledge, so remember to share this Kickstarter with all your friends!

ENEMY SUBSTITUTION TABLE
We’ve updated the Reinforcement Packs’ enemy substitution table. Remember that the cards and tokens to play them are included in Core, Outcast, and Revenant game expansions. The Reinforcements Packs only contain the matching miniatures from the current Corvus Belli catalog.

Yes there is, by design if you control all 4 characters.

Not a big issue really.

It looks like each of the scenarios is set up to run with four characters, divided among the players. That's probably a lot easier to balance than trying to scale stuff like reinforcements and the alert mechanism down for one or two characters.

But it is still a work in progress, they could figure out some neat mechanism for that. It'll probably still be more fun to run through with four characters even if you're playing a solo game, though.

Edit: The enemy models are being run by card flips, so really the only thing you're going to run into if you're playing alone might be the surprise factor you could get if you had someone else managing the scenario events.

They actually discussed this in response to questions about running 5 or 6 heroes.

It's designed for 4 heroes regardless how many actual players are controlling them. Though you can play with greater/fewer heroes, it will take some fiddling with the opposition.

Haqqislam Enemy Cards (Zhayedan & Al Fasid) and Jaan Star’s Infinity profile!

We have another new update for Infinity Defiance!

Thank you so much for helping us hit the 820K€ mark!

We have unlocked the Haqqislam cards, including Zhayedan and Al Fasid.

Zhayedan

The Zhayedan Intervention Unit, wryly called “the Immortals” by their enemies, who find it hard to take them down. Veterans of dozens of battles, Zhayedans are old warhorses, seasoned soldiers, professionals to the core who have survived everything the chaos of war could throw at them.

Al Fasid

The Al Fasid (‘The Corrupted’) Regiment accepts only soldiers with a solid operational record who can live up to their grueling battery of admission tests. Beyond proving their ability to do the job, applicants are not expected to answer any questions about their past, which is simply assumed to be checkered.

The regiment is infamous for their aggressive combat methods and their willingness to go to any lengths to snatch a victory. This reputation has earned them the epithet of ‘The Seven Times Accursed’. No Al Fasid is a model of Haqqislamite virtue, but they don’t seem to care in the least. These soldiers don’t fight for the glory: they fight because they need to earn a living, because they enjoy it, or because it’s the only thing they know how to do well.

This stretch goal is available for free with the Revenant expansion.

The Haqqislam’s Reinforcement Pack is also now unlocked.

This pack includes the following high-quality metal miniatures:

● 1 Tarik Mansuri (Spitfire)

● 1 Khawarij (Rifle + Light Shotgun)

● 1 Khawarij (Mk12)

● 1 Khawarij (Boarding Shotgun)

● 1 Zhayedan (Breaker Rifle + Light Shotgun)

● 1 Zhayedan (HMG)

● 1 Zhayedan Doctor Plus (Boarding Shotgun)

● 1 Al Fasid (HMG)

HAQQISLAM (from the Arabic Haqq Islam, New Islam)

Religious doctrine derived from Islamism, and its associated Neomuslim culture. A modern interpretation of the set of dogmas and precepts of the Quran that permeates the everyday lives of its followers. Founded by Farhad Khadivar in the late 21st century, the Haqqislamic movement proposed a philosophical and theological revisionism of the classical Islam, in order to adapt it to the society of its time. Haqqislam proclaims Humanism, the Search for Knowledge, and a set of Metaphysical axioms influenced by Sufi scholars, as the foundations of its doctrine, while simultaneously rejecting religious hierarchies and Sunnah, ‘tradition’, as dogma. Their doctrine is profoundly concerned with political and social issues, and the culture built around it has rekindled the scientific and artistic heirloom of the golden age of Islam.

This add-on is available for 45€.

Remember, the Reinforcement Pack only includes miniatures. Tokens and cards are already included in the Revenant expansion.

MICRO-GOAL

Also, we’ve unlocked the micro-goal from the last update!

Here is, Jaan Star’s Infinity profile.

JAAN STAAR, IMPOSTOR KIUUTAN
Lies and death: these are the two words my life is built upon. Just like many others, I am one of those who were displaced by violence in the war against the invading forces of the Combined Army. My family being dead or lost in the territory occupied by the Ur Hegemony, I spent my youth in one of the overcrowded Trinomial refugee centers, where gangs exert their control with fists and knives. These centers are the favorite recruiting spots of the Trident, the Tohaa army, because in them it can find highly motivated individuals hardened through violence. The Trident offers these displaced people a way out of all that terror and violence, a weapon, and the possibility of hurting those who are responsible for the miserable situation they have been subjected to. This is what I was offered, more death and lies: death, both that which I dealt and that of my comrades who fell one by one under the bulldozer of the Combined Army, and lies, such as that we could wipe out the EI simply by following our commanders’ orders. It’s an absolute fallacy, told at the expense of the lives of too many good Tohaa, because the Trident is losing the war and can do nothing to change this. This is why I embraced the cause of the Triumvirate, a secret organization pulling the strings of power, unwilling to allow any moral objection to stand in the way of victory against the EI. The Triumvirate took me in, trained me, and made death and lies my working tools. In the army I learned how to kill and to do so silently, so the Triumvirate instructors turned me into a Kiiutan Imposter. I learned how to imitate others and to use a specialized symbiont armor. I was subjected to extreme biomodifications, including virotherapy to redesign my genetic identity, which allows me to alter my appearance in order to impersonate others. While it’s true that all these experimental recombination treatments cause a certain mental instability, due to my life trajectory this was not something new for me, and they taught me to turn schizophrenia into a tactical advantage, making me an adversary always unpredictable, always unexpected. For years I worked as an agent for the Triumvirate, stealing, spying, and killing anyone who posed a threat to our plans. I performed military actions, but also those of a political and even economic nature, such as facilitating the awarding of contracts for the reconstruction of the Aldreec colonies, supplanting one of the executives of a competing company in order to remove it from the tenders. Finally, I was transferred to the Paradiso front in human territory, where the Triumvirate is carrying out a long-term clandestine operation. There I joined the mercenary company Spiral Corps, which is nothing more than a cover that allows us to move freely within the Human Sphere. As a mercenary, I can go wherever I want and I can work with whomever I want, always with a perfect smile, be it my own or my imitation of someone else’s, never revealing my impersonation skills, which humans are unaware of since we do not want them to distrust us, the Tohaa, their best allies. I am a very successful Spiral Corps operative, but nobody—with the exception of my fellow Tohaa—knows about my special skills. And thus, lies keep defining my life, lies as well as death, since in the end everything comes down to this: killing somebody, Shasvastii, Morat, Tohaa, or human. The species, age, or gender do not matter. Limitations do not exist for us who are truly committed to defending our race at any price, a price I will gladly pay in the blood of our enemies. Because after all, mental instability, along with lies and death, is another one of my defining traits.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't expect this particular reaction.

Full disclaimer... I'm not an Infinity player but better characterized as a casual observer of the models and (to a lesser extent) the game so I admit that I'm not the target audience therefore... but I'm a bit torn regarding this model. While I actually like the sculpt, I'm a bit saddened that CB is adding the first megazord to what is ostensibly a board and/or skirmish game. While I enjoyed playing apoc on occasion back in the day, I wasn't happy with the apocalypsification of the core 40k game and I can't help but feel that what I previously regarded as the quintessential dedicated skirmish game might be following suit. YMMV.

I don't want them in the main game, but I'd love to see them as special boss-fight scenarios. Back in N2 somebody made a custom "Assault the walker-tank" scenario where one side played a regular 300 point list and the other player played a giant walker-tank, essentially just recreating the climax from the original Ghost in the Shell movie. It was actually pretty cool, although it suffered from normal lists didn't have the firepower to crack the high armor and multiple STR, but a list tailored to the mission made short work of the super tank.

This is clearly how they intend for this unit to work in Defiance, and they've said everything in Defiance will work in Infinity, so hopefully it's how it will work in Infinity. We'll see

It's a nice model, and it will sure look nice in a display case, and giving it away as a stretch goal is a fine gesture, but It had best never, NEVER show up in Infinity: The Game as a playable unit. For me, it would be an insta-quit moment.

However, I could see special tournament type scenarios for fun where an intrepid band of Human Sphere Heroes had to hunt down and destroy one. That might be fun.

But never in the actual game. Except maybe as terrain, like a vehicle.

I'll decide Sunday whether or not to pledge. May I should write that , "SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! MONSTER TRUCK MEGALODRON RALLY AT THE CIVIC CENTER!" and y'all can hear that voice, that shouty tv commercial voice when y'all read it.
