One of the sad things about movies is the awful movies that were made. Possibly sadder is the good movies that weren't made.

If you could wish some movies into existence what would they be?

1. A sequel to Karl Urban's Dredd.

2.a good and faithful adaptation of "the time machine".

3. A sequel to district 9.

Sequel to Dredd.

Sequel to Terminator Genisys. No, really. It was a bit ropey, but it had more story to come. I’d settle for a comic follow up. I feel that only when we can see what else was planned can we fairly judge it. Sadly, not to be. Thankfully Dark Fate kicked arse.

Not movies, but at least a second season of Space, Above & Beyond and a third season of The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Updated versions of the Thin Man series.

Charlie Chan starring either Jackie Chan or Jet Li.

The Mr. Wong (similar to the C. Chan movies) series with either of the above.

Remake/update of Hopscotch (Walter Matthau) with Sean Bean as the MC.

Theater of Blood remake with Jim Carrey.

Well, first off, agreed on a sequel to Dredd, then:

A movie based on Robert E. Howard's Bran Mak Morn character.

A movie based on the old Poison Elves comics.

Escape From Las Vegas. Or Detroit. Or Albuquerque. I don't care, just bring back Snake Plissken!

Sequel to Dredd is a good one.

Irvin Kershner's Heir to the Empire?

Spaceballs II: The search for more money.

A cobbling-together of The Jungle Book by someone who's read it.

Unpopular opinion: The Lord of the Rings. By, like, I dunno. Ridley Scott. James Cameron. Hideaki Anno. Jonathan Frakes. Anyone else.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

Great idea for a thread!

Of course, a Dredd sequel is the big one.

Another huge one is some version of Episode 8 not at odds with Episode 7.

Actually, a bigger wish? Episodes 7-9 being proper sequels to the Original Trilogy; i.e., made sometime in the late 80s up through the late 90s (preferably early enough to have minimal digital effects) with Mark, Harrison, and Carrie in major roles. So rather than an EU, having real SW up on the big screen (and NOT the prequels).

That Stormbringer film Wendy Pini didn’t get made would have been a potentially great cult film material and positioned Elric to eventually push into the forefront of pop culture.

Also, a Battletech movie would have been great in the era of practical effects, something like a more focused, coherent version of Robot Jox.

A sequel to The Rocketeer.

Finally (for now), a Batman movie along the more romantic/Bondesque lines of O’Neill’s Tales of the Demon era. So, emphatically NOT all this Frank Miller edgelord malarkey about pearls bouncing around on the sidewalk. Batman as a foil to global terrorist Ras Al Ghul — as the World’s Greatest Detective.

I think I'd actually rather have a TV series based on Dredd. That would be some good TV if done right.

I'd also totally watch a Colonial Marines movie. No xenomorphs required. I think you could do a cool sci-fi action thriller with the Colonial Marines.

I'd also watch Lord of the Ring movies based on more peripheral events. The Battle of Erebor during the War of the Ring I think could make a great movie.

A Dredd show is in the works; well, it’s about the Big Meg broadly, not specifically Joe.

Huh! Wasn't aware of that. It kinda reminds me: is there still any hope for Guillermo Del Toro's Mountains of Madness?

Manchu's pic kinda reminded me of one...

A movie based on The Badger comics

The Whisper Comics

And maybe The Dragonfly Comic

Serious wishful thinking would include Boris the Bear, and Cutie Bunny... though the last might make a better anime.

Accurate versions of Day of the Triffids and The War of the Worlds (still disappointed with the latest BBC version, after I thought we were finally going to get one).

I always thought that Underworld would have made a great TV-series, instead of an average good descending to severely mediocre film set of films.

I’d love to see an Independence Day sequel based on the ground war in Africa; of the many, many serious errors in the sequel we got, openly teasing a film that sounds far more interesting than the one you made is right at the top of the list.

Wow, is there anyone here who didn't want a dredd sequel? (I guess the magical and infallible free market botched up as one was never made.)

There's a sf novel called "the black cloud" that I wouldn't mind seeing done as a movie or 2 part miniseies on the SFC.

Since the SFC did a well made adaptation of one of A.C. Clarke's novel's, Childhood's end" I'm wondering when they will do one of "Rendezvous with Rama".

And to expand the scope of this thread since I'm the OP and realize it should be expanded, I'll add TV series and miniseries to it by saying I would love a reboot of Blake's 7.

Even though I’ve seen it in FAOScwartz as a kid (huge toy store long since shut down) in Chicago (in 1997), I’ve been told by just about everyone that a VIDEO of Shadows of the Empire doesn’t exist. So I’d like that to be more available than “rainbow unicorn that speaks Twi’Lek” so I can watch it again. I’m not saying it had Carrie Fisher and Mark Hammill in it. I’m saying there is a SotE movie. Promo? Half hour? CGI? Dunno. But it’s out there. And it’s not just chunks of the video game.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

If we're doing this, then I want Firefly seasons 2-6 from 2003-2007 along with 2 or 3 movies.

Also, a sequel to Dredd.

Event Horizon with the missing footage restored.

I want the Rocknrolla trilogy that Guy Ritchie supposedly envisioned for that original movie. He even teased it at the end credits.

And an Alexander the Great movie that isn't as boring as watching grass grow.

I second the use of a time machine to remove Guillemo Del Toro from the Hobbit project and give Peter Jackson two-years prep and no studio interference to get that project done properly. (No offence to GDT, I like his work, but it was never going to be a good fit).

I never understood how they took one of the most interesting, dynamic and influential individuals in the whole of friggin' history and made a film soooooo dull. I mean, that takes real effort.

A series of films based on The Talented Mister Ripley and it's sequel books. There was a movie, but it was not great and the ending diverged quite a bit from the book.

A proper sequel trilogy to SW. And perhaps even a proper 'handoff to next generation' trilogy. In the meantime JJ and RJ never get anywhere near any scifi franchises. Ever.

And perhaps even a prequel trilogy produced by George Lucas, but directed by nearly anyone else.

An updated BSG series thats ultimate goal wasn't to make you hate all the characters.

Give B5: Crusade it's full run.

And for something a lot less well known... I'd love to see movies made of the books by Juliet McKenna. They're a great read, and not so long that decent movies couldn't be made for a reasonable length.

Oh man, a Dredd sequel is definitely at the top of my list.

Lots of good suggestions in here, some books that would make great movies or TV series that I'd love to see would be The Mote In God's Eye, Pandora's Star/Judas Unchained, Old Man's War, almost anything from the Culture series, anything from the Revelation Space universe, a proper Heavy Gear anime adaptation, and Brian Sanderson's Mistborn.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!

I desperately vote that Stormlight Archive get a TV series (but only after it finishes in like, 40 years...). Sanderson's entire style I think lends itself well to adaptation. I think the only reason he hasn't already been adapted is the cost-risk of trying.
