Those units are oldmarines and likely going to Legend sooner than later, so I expect that yes, they do.

yes, as the Codex is replaced with a new one they only have what is coming with that until the Supplement is released or GW keeps them via FAQ
Which is another reason they should release all the supplements at the same time as the codex.

If I had to guess, they might get access to units but not the ability to field them as part of Kill Teams.

NECROMUNDA
BEASTGRAVE
Beastgrave release can be done in a week, nexromunda the same probably, there's a warcry warband for 1 week and the gargants to release, so that's 4 weeks worth. They might drop another new starter box for 9th before then which seems sensible.
There’s the rest of the Lumineth too.

They are also dealing with the effects of the pandemic trashing their release schedule. Maybe originally the plan was Sept, but I'm not giving any company grief ATM for scheduling. They understandingly prioritized the edition itself, but all followup releases too not slipping is a bridge too far

Depends on what GW provides in the way of a FAQ/Get you by rules. I can imagine they will produce a document telling you which units to continue to use from the old Codex until the Supplement is released.

Maybe the other way around. The FAQ solution may be to keep using the current codex until the supplement releases, but also can use X, Y and Z datasheets from the new Marine codex with a keyword change.

It’s going to be a game-changer and, as we know, there are more updates already on the way, starting with Battle Forge, an incredible tool that will help you plan your Battle-forged armies. That first update is due to drop in August with more regular updates planned after that to keep making the app a better and better tool for Warhammer 40,000 fans.
Well GW noticed the app wasn't available and yanked the article...

These are the two specific units that are bugging me as well. Since we have "no model = no rule", the new Marine units are limited to exactly what's in the Indomitus box (no 4+ Outrider units, no Power Swords on Assault Intercessor Sergeants, etc.) so whilst it is logical to assume that they'll get expanded options, we just don't know that for certain and it means that we're stuck with what we have for months.
I want to give my Assault Intercessor Sergeant a Power Sword. I want to run a unit of 6 Outriders (just one Sergeant!). This is currently impossible, and that's frustrating. More frustrating with the long wait to get actual rules for these units.

I do t think any of the Intercessor kits have all the fancy melee weapons either, they’re all out of the various upgrade packs. Like, I sort of Assume the new assault sergeants will get access to that list, but it wouldn’t terribly surprise me if they didn’t. Outriders I dunno, they generate so many bonus attacks it might be crazy to give them access to thunder hammers.

Looks like the Codex releases in October pretty much put the nail in the coffin of any hopes of an "Orktober" this year too.
Though maybe they'll sneak a new Boys boxed set in there given the other previews at the end.

Imagine releasing two "NEW" space marine codexes in less than a year. I'm surprised people are not raging at this. It's scumy to me and I don't even play 40k anymore. Maybe they've gotten people used to constantly needing to buy new $40-$50 books every 2 months to keep up with the meta. Like wtf was even the point of the last codex?

I decided to take the plunge with cards for 8th (specifically Marines, Ultras, Chaos and Tyranids) because with the former three being so recent I thought they'd be around for a while, and the latter one just because I was playing Tyranids the most in 8th and wanted to have easy reference. I even got the Open War cards as they looked fun.
Never again...

I really think GW would be better off providing their rules for free online, or at least for very close to free. The ridiculous prices they charge do a lot to either push people towards piracy or depress sales of models. And it's not like they even make much money off the books; despite the prices, the profit margins are tiny compared to the miniatures.

Ah excuse me, a year and 2 months. Thank you AKctuAlLy guy for correcting me. This makes it ok now.
Doesn't take away from the fact that within 6 months of the codex release, there were multiple leaks of new models that were not present in the marine codex. And they have to balls to just announce a new book WITHIN a year of the last ones release. Lets not get it twisted, if not for a global pandemic, this book would already be on pre-order and 99% of the player base would eat that gak up.

The price of books has held me back from buying minis. I’ve got army fragments I’d love to bring up to fighting strength. But how many factions do I want to commit to keeping up to date with the rules? Or things like knights, where to add one to your list not only do you need the expensive mini, but then the expensive book.
I get that it’s an expensive hobby. I don’t mind the money for most of the minis. But books with a mayfly useful life that suck up a disproportionate chunk of my hobby budget rubs me the wrong way.
I don’t get how people do soup lists. They probably spend more money on books then I do in minis for my mono-faction Ultras lists. And it can be invalidated with an edition change, or even a FAQ.

Well, the secret is that many (most?) people don't. They just use battlescribe or all the free resources available online.
GW would be better off admitting expecting people to pay $40 just for the rules for a faction is unrealistic and counterproductive. Their profit margins aren't even good on the books, so even if they only broke even - i.e. if people took the money they were spending on rules and invested it in minis instead - they'd make more money.

Well, as much as I agree with that sentiment and have no intention of actually paying money for the shoddy quality rules that are invalidated relatively shortly after release, I am certain that if making the rules free was more profitable they would have done it by now. Somewhere out there is a neck beard with way too much money and an army in every faction and every codex and supplement out there. And there’s thousands of marine players that got ripped off a bunch of times and will continue to get ripped off. Probably confused too as to why the edition changed. They didn’t see a problem with how it worked XD and hundreds of every other faction, if not thousands as well. I do agree that I have no idea how they have people outside the competitive scene (play for a living) still buying these books though.

I dunno, the theory that GW is some super smart organization that knows its market super well has taken a pretty serious hit in the last two weeks. They botched the launch of their flagship box by getting the demand totally wrong, then they released a half-finished app so bad it would have embarrassed a company worth 1/100th what GW is.
I think a lot of our assumptions about GW running some slick research operation have to be serious reconsidered.
