Subject: Indomitus is going to sell out within 5 minutes
a_typical_hero wrote: My FLGS already received a message saying that further pre-ordering is not possible.
I don't know when the pre-order went up exactly, but it felt like it was only available for a very limited time.
All reserved boxes for customers could be ordered and then some more, so no problem here. The demand seems very high.
Well, the official pre-order window doesn't start until Saturday, though I imagine ad hoc reservation lists were a thing.
What GW are probably saying there is that the FLGS can't request any more copies than they already have.
That's assuming that it was GW which told the FLGS in question and not a third party distributor...
We got a price list for this release two weeks ago or so. That would be when independents could have started ordering. It looks like the price list went up on July 2nd or so? That's where I have it in my saved images...god I hate these days.

Designer's Note: Hardened Veterans can be represented by any Imperial Guard models, but we've really included them to allow players to practise their skills at making a really unique and individual unit. Because of this we won't be making models to represent many of the options allowed to a Veteran squad - it's up to you to convert the models. (Imperial Guard, 3rd Edition)

As in the first day for your FLGS to start taking preorders or to get stock allocations from GW?
Sorry if I don't make myself clear enough in my posts.
The store took pre-orders from customers like me before that day already. They were trying to purchase / pre-order stuff from GW. That should be the stock allocation you mentioned.
My shop got a total of 15 boxes ordered where 10 are reserved for customers. That is all they will get for now. The shop is quite new and quite small. I would guess GW would deliver more stock to their bigger retailers.

But even with those cuts you only get down to say £450~.
And supposedly this is available for £120.
This math only works if you would have bought the contents separately - most of us wouldn't. In reality buying Indomitus means spending £125 instead of £200-ish if you collect one of the armies present or £125 instead of £0 if you don't (value of Core book not taken into account).
That being said, Indomitus is still heck of a good deal if you want the contents and good deal even if you want only half of the contents. My point was that comparing to real retail price of the contents may be misleading.
I don't collect Primarines or Necrons but I am going to buy Indomitus because it is a huge box of pretty models for good price. I will likely buy some reinforcements for one or both armies which means that I will end up spending hundreds of pounds more than I would have without Indomitus. I am the target audience.
Well if you don't collect 1 faction getting second set of what you do or selling off easy enough so 125 pounds for 2 set of useful models or less than 125 for 1 set

Well, the official pre-order window doesn't start until Saturday, though I imagine ad hoc reservation lists were a thing.
Dark Sphere have / had a thing on their website allowing you to 'register interest' if you were strongly intending on buying - saying it was going to transfer to a pre-order as soon as the window opened.
I registered interest in a box
I did the same with Dark Sphere. I think I registered fairly early, so I bloody hope I get one.
I tell you what I would really like to see for the GW pre-order - instead of being allowed to order three copies, on day one, you can only order one box per person. If there any left, you can order multiple copies on subsequent days. Admittedy, you'd still get some people ordering multiples by getting one per family member, but there is still a practical limit to that. And ordering one for your seven family members is much better than ordering three each for your seven family members!
Dark Sphere put a post on their Facebook letting everyone know that they've already sold out, and they'll be letting those who registered will know come Friday if they have one secured. https://www.facebook.com/DarkSphereGaming/photos/a.533436513455071/2050432265088814/?type=3&theater Alchemist Workshop said they have loads and won't be limiting orders. Which I don't think is true at this point.
One things for sure is there's gonna be a lot of disappointment this Saturday.

Seems like GW really gakked the bed on this one. I doubt I'm going to find any other preorder availability anywhere else.
So I guess they don't get my money for now.
That seems hard to believe they have no allocation. I see no mention of this on twitter or facebook?
I literally just got the email before posting. I'm guessing it went out to those who were on the reservation list already.
I'll copy/paste it into a spoiler because it's long
Spoiler:
INDOMITUS BOXED SET HEAVILY ALLOCATED LAST MINUTE BY GAMES WORKSHOP - ALL RESERVE ORDERS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED. PLEASE READ BELOW.
I am writing to inform you that Games Workshop has reduced EVERY single Game Store’s allocations of Indomitus in the country by drastic numbers including ours at well over 75% of our initial order commitment, putting most of their retail partners in very unpleasant situations this evening.
Last week, we were made to make decisions to spend tens of thousands of dollars (almost $30k in our case) on this release with less than a 24 hour notice, telling us that we had to give our totals by end of day and that we could not reduce those totals, only add to them because we would get what we committed to that day. It is a normal GW practice to put us in these preorder situations but they seldom ever (actually none that I can remember in my last 22 years of business with them) go back on those numbers once we commit.
At that time we reached out to you to offer the reserve list with the confidence that we would have the total that we had been made to commit to. From there, I spent hours and money organizing and preparing for this release that will now be a small fraction of what it could have been for us and for you, our customers.
Whether it be bad management of resources, someone misreading the numbers, "miscommunication" (the likely excuse… err… reason), an inability to meet demand to their retailers (mind you there will be plenty on their own webstore come Saturday) or, just plain old fashioned greed, whatever the reason, once again GW bites the hand that feeds them - their local retail stores - the people who work to promote their products through events, workshops and doing all the work keeping the community involved in their games for them.
With all of that said, I sincerely hate to inform you that DICEHEAD.COM will not have a single copy of Indomitus available to any of our online customers.
I HATE, absolutely HATE, not being able to fulfill a promise to a customer – one of my top business rules is "Never tell a customer you will do something for them and not do it." I wish other companies lived by the same standards, but today, it is what it is and I cannot sell what I do not have.
Please accept my sincere apologies and I hope you are able to find a copy of Indomitus this weekend.
We will have the Chapter Approved books in the webstore but that will be about it for this release as GW has also allocated everything else in this initial release to levels that we cannot offer them online as well either.
Sincerely,
- An extremely disappointed and frustrated Shane and Dicehead Team

So not totally cancelled. Sounds like they were angling to grab something like 250 sets, because they run an eBay store. My store is still getting their comparatively modest 15.

Reading your last posts I'm actually thinking about picking up the non reserved boxes from my local store just so I can sell them to actual gamers for the regular price + shipping.
I can imagine how the prices on ebay will look like right after release. :(

Yeah we can sort of guesstimate their stock using the numbers they gave of a $30k order placed with GW and only a 25% final allocation.
Assuming an independent stockist pays 50% of retail then they would have requested 300 boxes but are only receiving ~75.
That's pretty worrying low for an independent store that also usually sells online...
Spoiler:
A cursory glance on Google found a thread on Dakka from 2014 where someone mentioned distributors (?) paying 40-45%. I thought GW acted as their own distributor, but just in case I'm assuming a stockist would be slightly higher than distribution (hence 50%).
$30k/($200*.5) = 300 boxes
300bx * .25
I know it's basic math, but just so there's no confusion...

My FLGS got less than 10% of what they wanted and they got over 250 boxes. If the demand is really this high the box will be soldout in minutes on the GW website. And the website will probably crash...

I may then get a second from my local GW. Currently undecided, but pre-order to release crosses over with payday, so I’ll certainly be able to afford it.
However, I’m not entirely sure this will be scalped quite so heavily. From what we’ve seen of unboxings, these look to be full production kits, rather than box specific (such as Deffkoptas, the Gravis Captain and so on). So there’s nothing in them, barring the rule book, we won’t be able to pick up further down the line. So even if scalping sods do try to create false scarcity, there’s less reason to rely on them.
I recdently just heard that there isn't a single thing on the marine side that is exclusive. someone with a contact in GW got a price list for everything. so no reason to buy this beyond the savings
Well, as I'm interested in every piece in this box, that's a good enough reason to order it.
If I'm going to buy it all? I might as well buy it all now & save $....

Sounds pretty heroic. Maybe I'll contact you, because I didn't get any confirmation regarding my reservation.
I still hope, the english boxes aren't sold out that fast in germany...

This is an insanely horrific way to treat customers I knew months ago this would sell out we all did yet GW have done nothing to further production of indomitus and are very happy to once again fail 99% of the community for the 1% that does get this box. An absolute disgrace. Their lies about making loads of boxes can clearly be seen now. This will easily net them millions in profit but I hope the long term Ill will this generates finally has an impact and they stop these disgraceful anti consumer practices

Also we need some actual sources on those numbers
if stores can't order the items to sell them, then the source kind of a has run out already.

There's a difference between local supply limits and regional supply limits. We won't know the latter until tomorrow at 10am local release time for different GW regions. It might be that some stores aren't able to get stock that they want, but that through the general regional distribution the majority of customers do get access to stock at fair prices. It might be scalpers buy it all and we have to contend with that or that GW doesn't have enough. We also have to remember that there will be many buying it JUST for the rulebook and so we have to factor in the aftermarket sale of split sets as well.
So chances are we won't know the regional issues until tomorrow and we won't know the full picture until release.

Tfw you're having a very normal one over a company that makes toys not having functionally infinite manufacturing capacity.
