I don't think Stalkers should be combat monsters or anything but would A4 really have killed GW?

At least you're WS3/BS3. Daemon Engines are still stuck at 4/4.

on the forum. Obviously

Odd how they changed the HGC to S7 D3 damage.
It was always a Lascannon equivalent prior to this, but now its more of a plasma cannon equivalent, which is just odd.
Not sure I like that change.

I guess they changed it to make the new Lokhust variants more appealing.

Maulerfiends already have 4 attacks though (so both Land damage at the same average of 2 hits), but since Lashers are basically mandatory (LOL what Magna Cutters) it is a lot more than that.

It looks like the Heavy Destroyers just got the same treatment Tau Broadsides did. They went from anti-tank hotness to somewhat mid-tier heavy shooting.

For some reason, I'm kind of okay with this depending on what other changes are made. If I can have 6 heavy Destroyers flying around with that profile it will wreck a Primaris unit for sure. I can actually see a Destroyer heavy army being useful. 3x6 Destroyers/heavy destroyers and 3x3 Lokhurst heavy destroyers. Add in a destroyer Lord and you have a VERY mobile fire base.

I'm having a hard time deciding between X + either a Nihilakh Scarab outrider or a Szarekhan Lokhurst spearhead

With all these units looking much better with these rules tweaks, I’m stumped now with how I want to build my armies. I guess I’ll just have to buy everything.

I don't think heavy destroyers will exist as they once were. Lokhust is the variety of destroyer on an anti grav platform, so put that word in front of "heavy destroyer" and suddenly they don't exist any more.

The three barreled twin guns on the stalker changing doesn’t necessarily mean the single barrelled weapon on heavy destroyers is, if they still exist as “medium” destroyers.

These two posts confuse me; we’ve seen the anti-tank version of the Lokhust Heavy Destroyer; it’s S10 AP-4 D3d3
So yes we know it’s still a thing and also it’s very clearly still an AT powerhouse; better even, given the superior average and maximum damage.

I’m saying that in the event the “normal” heavy destroyer still exists, that’s still no guarantee it’s single barreled gun would have its profile changed the way the many-barreled gun of the triarch stalker was.

Ah, thank you for the clarification. That makes more sense.
That said, if it does exist unchanged, do you not feel like it would be totally outclassed by the Lokhust version?

If I had to guess, normal destroyers will stay largely unchanged, and the original heavy destroyer will become a normal destroyer with an optional special weapon. That makes room for the new lokhust destroyer to be the big heavy destroyer without invalidating everyone's existing original small heavy destroyers.

I'd would agree that the likely thing they go with is old destroyers will go legends but can be reasonably proxied as the lokhust. And the lokhust is basically both combined into one unit that essentially fills the same role if a bit differently. But the ETB will be the only entry in the lokhust destroyer line.

Its had the opposite effect on me. I'm on pause (except basing) for my necron project until the codex drops. Too many unknowns and a lot of changes.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

Except lokhust heavy destroyer does only job of heavy destroyer and isn't even all that better while being softer and so far less mobile. Nothrng even close to reqular destroyer role has been shown

Being better or not doesn't matter, but the destroyers role is elite infantry and light vehicle hunting, which we've just seen the stalker is becoming very good at and other units also fill that role pretty well.

I know there is a want for normal destroyers but I don't think there is a need for them when there are other options.

The new heavy destroyer has two weapons, the second weapon looks more in line with what the regular destroyers used. I hope regular ones still exist as I used them heavily since 4th edition.

I understand people have collections with normal destroyers in but if they vanish rules wise you just suddenly landed yourself a large unit of lokhust heavy destroyers, look at it that way.

True, It’s just a shame that the lokhusts appear to be a poorer version that the old destroyers.

It's not even close to same. It's weapon you use to tickle grots. Destroyers were wasted firing grots. This emitec whatever you are wasting shooting at what destroyers were fired a'

Emetic isn’t a great replacement for anything in my book, should Definatly have been damage 2 but I don’t think anyone will build it that way especially as the new gauss is so good!!

Average 6 wounds per unsaved wound instead of d6 is an insane boost.

4w on the unit is also very nice. Only the points cost will decide if it’s worth it as the old heavy destroyers (Maybe going to legends) are still nicely priced.

Dam3d3 is nice yes. Heavy destroyers more accurate, more mobile(lokust is static guntower) and 40pts vs 70. Old hd actually outperforms vs russ. Even more on move

Add to this both the new Heavy Destroyer and (moreso?) the Doomstalker are more dedicated AV choices. Turns the stalker into a mid-range heavy shooting platform which is nice because it's potentially more useful with its reroll ability? Soften up some heavier infantry before Immortals or Warriors follow up.

Looks like Terminators are getting the overhaul treatment too. These assembly instructions have a few tweaks:

  • Sergeant power sword at +1S

  • Cyclone missile frag profile changed from 2D3 to 2D6

  • 3 wounds per model!

While interesting wouldn't it be more useful to create marine thread than have marine news in necron thread?

Nope, new rules are new rules, there are no errors. Chain fists now add four to your save rolls!
