65 Tactical Marines. Got 15 to go, but it's going slow as I've been getting pains in my hands that make it difficult to paint for long periods. If it weren't for that they only take a few minutes each to paint.

After these I've got a bunch of bikes, then I think I'll either print some more stuff or swap to something else. I do want to get some Terminators painted up to fill those Spartans, and I guess a couple of command squads, but haven't printed any of that yet. A Roboute would be nice too, but I don't have a model either physical or STL for him.

This isn't how they'll be based, this is just somewhere for me to put them while I figure out the basing, though I do kinda like the look of them deployed as a horde like that My plan for basing is to print off bases, but have a small hollow in the bottom so I can attach some sheet metal, that way I can transport it all in a magnetic storage container.

Those look fantastic! Change the camera angle, add a couple of Titans behind and you could do the cover of the SM 2nd edition boxset!

Are you thinking of classic bases type or something more exotic?

Sherrypie I am lost for words for how cool that campaign looks. That's honestly a dream of mine to be involved in something like that, I hope it is as much fun as it sounds! Absolutely astounding.

I have finished a Termite unit for my Great Crusade forces. Always wanted to use these as the miniatures are so damned cute - although I have filled them with Berserkers to make them somewhat less cute now!




I loved the idea of the Berserkers being contained in the Termite (this is what happens when you don't follow orders and keep attacking the wrong stuff just to collect skulls!)


Then finally a 'Centurion' unit (counts as 'Chaplain') to lead the Berserkers, with a decorated base.

Thanks Paz, it's a lot of fun. Currently one of the defending players has amused themselves by drafting the planet's official independence documents and I'm starting to run RPG spec-op raids between the main battles as well. On the roll like that

I dunno if I'll try and do a whole force of them, but here's an Alpha Legion test paint.

I think the blue probably needs to be airbrushed, just ended up too messy, but it looks okay from a distance, lol.

Also wanted to try purple tinting instead of green (as AL are described as "indigo blue" in the Legion book). But unfortunately purple shade over blue doesn't really look purple, it just looks like darker blue.

I bought a few Vanguard Siege dudes... they are maybe a bit too small



I dunno, they're really nice models, but I wish they were 1.5mm taller, lol. Dunno if I'll get more of them to fill out a regiment, they looked better unpainted because I don't have a steady enough of a hand to paint them well. I wish I could get STLs so I could print them out a bit bigger.

Speaking of Snakebites Skinflint games I have just finished a Clan. The Orks are mostly Vanguard miniatures. There are some classic GW minis (the Squiggoths and Squig Catapults) and the terrain is a mix of some 3D printed buildings (mighty-minis-uk.com) and the grub mounds and little squig things are from CPmodels.co.uk. I've tried to come up with something that would be like the Snakebite Ork homelands, or the conception prior to 2nd/3rd edition when the mushroom fluff got added and Orks became more bestial.

AllSeeingSkink - I would definitely recommend starting an Ork force There is so much stuff around now, if you proxy with vanguard or 3D prints, its really easy to collect. Also if you ever decide to give the Epic Space Marine/Titan Legions/NetEpic rules a try the Orks are the most fun army you will ever play, they are just so characterful. But massively destructive too, people will laugh at how your squig has just turned round and stampeded your own troops, but then look down to see half of their army missing from the next shot

A big moment for me as I've finally managed to assemble a group shot of my Great Crusade-era World Eaters. These represent probably about 3 years of work on and off so it's been a long time getting here (I know a lot of people can paint the same at 28mm over the same period!) This is one half of the force, the other being Orks, that I'm hoping to use for a big participation/exhibition Epic game in March next year, at Firestorm Games in Cardiff.

@Malika - Thanks I might ask him! That would definitely be a cool centre-piece. I have a few more bits and pieces to add to this force, then a bunch more Orks. I had a fun idea of using the Vanguard Chinork with some 'special ops' ork Freebooterz so I need to order one of those!

@Sherrypie - Its probably going to be just my WE vs. Orks, I'm hoping ultimately about 16k-20k (using 2nd ed/Titan Legions rules) on a 12ft board. I really want to recreate the look of the mega battles my local GW ran when I was a kid, and trying to appeal perhaps to people who remember Epic or perhaps haven't heard of the concept before. Hopefully after participating make them want to try the game too as I think the game not being widely played any more is such a shame.
As a 'surprise' there might be some Eldar raiders in the wings too, who will swoop in and start collecting slaves from broken units and things like that (and which can be used to help balance the game if it starts sloping too much one way).

COR AUT MORS!

Excidium Ultimum, the Ultimate Ruin, Warmaster of the Ashen Gods, marches to war engines and weapons blazing. Pretty happy with the freehanded checkers, lines and banners, hadn't done those for a long time.




She's escorted by the XIV legion, who are certainly not the bigger people in this relationship.



Some close-ups on the legs. I'm satisfied with those checkers and especially with the knee-joint NMM.




The Grav Imploder is running pretty hot.



Freehanding banners was something I haven't really done, though not that different from regular acrylic painting I did a lot of as a teenager. It was fun... and thus something I'll probably have to do more of in the future, oh dear.




Naturally there are people about on machines of this size. You can spot one in the armpit and another loading the mortars on the shoulders.




Since legio Favilla is my pretentious art project, I also tested using a 0.1 mm pen to put some latin phrases in as appropriate (works, but reaaally didn't like ti stay put when the varnish was applied. Whoops).
- On her front armour the scrolls read "Solvet saeclum in favilla / Heaven and Earth in ashes ending", part of Dies Irae that inspired the legio's name in the first place.
- The skull pile banner reads "Mors certa / Death is inevitable".
- The bleeding heart has the battle cry "Cor aut mors / Heart or death", an ultimatum to submit and obey or die. Your money or your life, but cooler.
- The burning planet with a sword in it reads "Mors tua, vita mea / Your death, my life" in reference to the legio's purpose as an ultima ratio formation that is only sent to the fray when diplomacy breaks down so badly that the opposing side needs to be erased from the galactic memory in its entirety. By the death of their enemies, Mankind asserts its perceived manifest destiny to rule the stars.

My goodness that is unbelievably good Sherrypie. No exaggeration that looks Golden Daemon-level painting. Is it being entered into anything? (If not it should be!)

I love all the details especially, and the troops on the base add the scale. Its like reading a story and noticing something new each time you look at it. Wow!

...but where does one show it off if not at the game table, when it's meant to be a gaming piece?

And funnily enough, it wouldn't fly at proper painting competitions as things stand anyway, given the less refined style. I'm happy with it and all that, but for big name competitions it would need to have a lot more polish put into its colour transitions, blends and in particular with the NMM midtones to stand a chance against more technically competent works. It's not like various great blanchitsu works are tearing up the painting world either, despite their otherwise generally high artistic values.
