Oh, yeah, you guys are right. The warhammer community article doesn't represent the Ts and Cs of the promotion well at all tbh

But nor does it need to.
As it can just direct to them, or even less - as long as somethings in your basket then you’re in.
If you only pop a Paint in, it would suck if that’s all you won, so it’s actually better for anyone who enters as they’d get more for winning.

Huh, so silly me, I figured linking your GW and Forge World accounts together would allow something like cart sharing, figured I'd test it to see if it was so and lo and behold, it is not. Don't quite get the reason for linking the two accounts is then as that would be the big draw from me at least in terms of user friendliness.

Well its sort of annoying that you need to create a new thing just to link your old things, but ok.

What's interesting though, is that GW actually seem to be using a sensible exchange rate for this give away. While they don't explicitly say how much local currency the draw is worth (which would be nice to know actually), they do give a grand total from which you can derive the amount from.

Games Workshop wrote:6. Prize Details

6.1. There are five (5) prizes to be won. Each prize is your choice of item(s), up to the value of £300 in total (or equivalent local currency as determined by GW), currently available on the Games Workshop or Forge World webstore. This value excludes delivery and sales tax, where applicable. The value of the prize pool is up to: GBP £1500 / $2646.06 AUD / USD $2049.85.
Which would mean that for Australians, with a prize pool of $2646, then we're looking at $530 worth of bitz. Or there abouts.

Where as if we went of the typical Games Workshop exchange rate™ by comparison, we come out far less favourably.
Take a Knight Valiant for example, £100GBP. That same Knight Valiant in AUD is $280.
A Pom could win 3 of them, we couldn't quite win 2.

Well in your (our) case, that'd be nightmarish to deal with. Any US GW orders are drawn from the GW warehouse in Memphis. Any FW orders are coming from Nottingham.
Tying up the GW storefront with all the export & customs & international shipping stuff that FW has to deal with (even if its internally) is not a sensible decision, as a combined cart would then have to sort all that out on the fly.

Dunno about you, but I wouldn't trust them to do that well.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

Yeah, though as soon as it was a monetary value they had to do it that way.
Whereas if it was “win these 10 items” then true value would vary a lot more for instance.
Surprised they’re doing it that way as it’d be cheaper for them the other way.
But I suppose it’s all just plastic so cheap whatever way round!

I find it irritating that it'd be auto signing me up for the WH40K app in the process.
I don't want their app. Be it a free month or a paid subscription. And I don't want to have to even go through the effort of cancelling their app in order not to have it.

You don’t have to “cancel the app”
Just don’t download it.

All it has done is given you a log in account for it.
It won’t auto download the app to your phone magically.

If you create a hotmail/Live account you technically have an Xbox account. Doesn’t mean you have to buy an Xbox.

Wow, this new system is such a fething pain in the ass. "Create a strong password". Jesus fething christ, I've never - ever - fething - ever had my pass broken. Now why do I have to add some random gak symbol...
I can't comprehend, why did they even launch this piece of bs.

The system for having a stronger password is normal and designed to encourage/enforce you to use a password that is stronger than your current one. It improves your security. It also forces people to at least make an attempt at a stronger password instead of using the same one they use for their luggage (123456).

As for combining its clear that GW is moving their digital market system forward and having a single united account to access everything likely makes it easier at the back end to support uses. It means GW has one archive of information on users instead of a a dozen or more spread over different services, each one needing its own separate storage and upkeep.

Well, it's nice that Dakka has a filter because your language indicates a slight over reaction to what, in my experience, is becoming the normal for companies to ask when setting up accounts, to wit, upper/ lower case and numbers/ special characters.

From those exclamations, I had expected some outrageous demands, but it does indeed all look like standard fare: 8 or more characters, including lower- and uppercase, numbers and special characters. At this stage, I'm honestly more annoyed with password systems that can't handle some of those, or those that say a password is not eligible but won't explain why.

They even rate the password strength on a scale from "Weedy Grot" to "Warlord Titan", which is a nice touch.

Try my work account passwords!

Automatically generated as a random set of characters that perversely require you to write them down somewhere until you can memorise them.

Pretty sure that US Forge World orders also ship from Tennessee. They haven't come straight from Nottingham in years now.

Huh. You seem to be correct. Some of the information pages mention Nottingham and customs a fair bit, and that as well as the .co.uk web address threw me off. But the delivery page does mention Memphis.
Good to know, I suppose.
