So I don't particularly mind the aesthetic of the new sister stuff, I'm even warming up to the exosuits, though I would definitely try to uparmor the pilots if I ever get one.

My main issue is I kind of dislike the need for making everything a special named character. Far, far more interesting to have them be generic characters, and I hope they all have generic builds. It just becomes such a yawnfest when every army is always led by this same big name character, regardless of what part of the galaxy the battle is in. On that note I hope they make a generic option for Junith's hover pulpit in the new codex.

Bonus points when one is a High Lord of Terra, which now makes it what, 2 of the highest ranking members of the Imperium running around punching people instead of actually managing a galaxy spanning empire? I guess so long as the rest of the High Lords are actually doing their jobs instead of going on the glory hunt...or I suppose if Vahl spends the majority of her time actually doing the paperwork. At the moment though it seems like she is the sort of boss who decides to toss the actual work of their job onto their assistant and then go out and have fun. Hopefully she ends up well written, or at least better written than that.

It's actually their third try, they did it with the Invictor suits too. It's obviously someone's go-to for a new power armor unit.

Part of what makes the Imperium such a nightmare is that the Lords of Terra don't do ANYTHING useful (for anyone but the Lords of Terra).

I think it's a futile effort to get mad about turning the High Lords of Terra into the Avengers. GW clearly is taking a lot of inspiration from super hero stuff recently, and there is very little chance that GW IPs aren't going to become more and more about super heroes punching other super heroes.

See taken in a vacuum I think the models are OK. They'd be pretty decent Ad Mech units to be quite honest, Skitarii Warsuits? They basically look like a cross between an Armiger and a Terminator anyway. They just don't look like a SoB unit to me. Not grimdark enough, too high tech

GW do this a lot these days to be honest. Some models just don't fit in at all with their ranges - this is exactly how I feel about a few of the new Necron scultps, whereas others are superb.

So...
day 1 was mostly special characters for the vampire release we already knew about. Bonus in nice dire wolves

day 2... mostly special characters for the Sisters release we've already seen. Huzzah for an unnecessary LoW and a random named character _scribe_, I guess.

Gosh, I'm overwhelmed by the depth of these previews.
I'm thoroughly excited [#sarcasm] for the ork preview day, and still don't expect much beyond a BB team or two for 'boxed games' day. They're quite living down to my expectations so far.

Boxed Games Day - pre-packaged special event? - is the interesting one, at present.

Idoneth for WHU seems reasonable - either one as a tease, or the whole team.

Some info regarding the Delaque book (and second box) also seems reasonable, though probably lighter on info.

Something for BB seems right, be it a new team, new Star Players, etc. Not sure which team I'd want them to do next, though.

Given we've just had the Warmaster, I'm not sure I'm expecting much for AT, outside maybe a preview of Chaos Legios. Not sure if we'll see a new Titan/Knight drop with that, but we might see another weapon sprue for one of the chassis.

I have no idea what's going on for AI - aren't there a couple of releases that need to be released already? Maybe they'll say what's going on there.

Magic 8-Ball hasn't given me any hints regarding Warcry or Kill Team.

Only thing I think is likely is that they will not mention Cursed City at all...

It depends. If Saturday's 'surprise' involves a lot of non-model components, they really need to reassure people that they'll actually be able to buy whatever it is.

They should probably do that anyway (and be both sincere and convincing), but Cursed City is going to cast a long shadow over the bigger boxed sets.

And this, more than anything folks, is why I'm not at all disappointed with these reveals, because I knew going in what they were going to be (and, more importantly, what they were not going to be). Only Saturday (and perhaps Thursday*) hold any real mystery. Everything else** was going to be expansions and confirmations on stuff we mostly know about. Expecting more than that was just setting yourselves up for failure.

*And only then because GW makes so many boxed games that we don't know which ones they've chosen for this reveal, although I suspect Delaque + Underworlds Fish Elves will probably be it.
**Not counting the BL day, because, really, who does?

That said, I suspect we'll see more new things (READ: confirmations of things we saw in the teaser) for the Orks on Friday.

I have to laugh at the "Our last reveal is a new scenery pack!". Your last reveal is a bitzy collection of repackaged scenery that's been available for sale for years already.

Such revelations. Much new. Wow!

One interesting theory I heard yesterday is that some of the Vamp reveals yesterday were actually scrapped Cursed City expansions. It's supposition of course, but they put out a "full range" picture of the new Vamp stuff, and some of the new things are not in that shot at all (specifically Final Form Radakur and Lady Wolfenwolf), making some think that they were intended for a different release.

The repackaged scenery would only be worth excitement if it's got a built in discount. Like a whole component of the set is basically free. But lets be honest, that's not going to be the case. It's going to be another expensive set, not a good deal. GW doesn't really do 'good deals'.

I really like the sisters warsuits. I especially like that they actually have armour plating that goes over the SoB, rather than the horror of the Dreadknight.

But the model in this preview I really like has already been released - that running Palatine with a plasma pistol is just a wonderfully dynamic model.

Anyway, I wanted to get that omnibus post out of the way before posting what I thought of the "preview":

1. Thigh-Lord of Terra
I really like the mini. I question the intelligence of one of your high-leaders marching into war like that, but at least the suit is cool.

Would've preferred a Nundam HQ that wasn't a special character (or at least the option to make one from this kit), but GW seem to have a real hard-on for more and more special character models at the moment (look at the Vamp release).

2. Banner Bearer and Priestess
Got real excited when I saw the "Priest" in the preview video but, no, yet another special character. And not exactly a Priest either. Just a hanger-on record keeper for Banner Lady.

I really want the Priestess model. I really don't want Banner Lady.

3. Dogmata
We already knew about that. Does GW understand what a preview is?

4. Palatine
We already knew about that. Worse, that model actually came out already (albeit in a limited battle box). Does GW understand what a preview is?

5. Celestian Sacresants
Again, not something new, but nice to see the alternative weapon option. I would have preferred swords, given that the Sister at the front of the Triumph looks so cool, but even so, weird faces aside this unit is cool.

6. Paragon Warsuits
We already knew about these. Does GW understand what a preview is?

I still like 'em. Everything the Baby Carrier DK should've been (and, at one point, was going to be).

7. Castigator (aka Leman Predator)
We already knew about this. Does GW understand what a preview is?

GW wanted to add new things to the Sisters for the first time, rather than just remaking things that already existed (or off-shoots of those things). So they gave them a Predator with a Battlecannon. Such originality.

8. War Zone Charadon 2: Be'lakor Boogaloo
Well that puts a damper on my theory about a Daemons Codex being announced.

Nice to see even more Day-1 DLC (and even Pre-Order DLC for the AdMech) coming. I hope the Limited Edition version of this remains on shelves forever (like it has for the first book! ).

9. Battlezone: Mechanicus – Charadon
Aiight I guess. Like I said in my post above, it's a bitzy collection of repackaged scenery that's been available for sale for years already. Nothing new at all. Probably way overpriced. I do like the board it comes with though...

But yeah, nothing all that new here. Anyone who expected otherwise was kidding themselves.

Are 90% of your miniature designers working on Age of Sigmar?

Age of Sigmar yesterday got; 4 fantastic vampire lords on amazing looking vignettes, new dire wolves, vampire hunters, new Sylvaneth model, an amazing god of destruction. All this hot on the heels of the new Slannesh models, Lord Kroak and tons more besides.

What did the 40k players get in comparison?
A gouge book that you need to buy for £40 for 3 pages of rules.
And 2 Sisters of battle models, everything else we have seen months ago.

What really rubs salt into the wound is we are getting campaign books when half the factions don't even have a codex yet, why?

Drukhari got zero new models.

About time you started giving the 40k player base something new.

I already know that Fridays "big reveals" is going to be the beastsnagga kits they already revealed on warhammer community articles.

If you've got nothing to show, don't hype it up, you only shoot yourself in the foot.

I don't think it's necessarily 90% of the miniature designers, I just think all of the good one ones get sent over there. I'm not sure if that's a desire thing, as AoS tends to give designers a lot more freedom in what kind of things they can make (giant monster has a lot more range than giant tank), or just because GW is trying to grow AoS or what, but it really shows. I haven't been inspired by a 40k model in years, but I feel AoS has pretty reliably turning out fantastic things left and right.

One of the french designer (the one who designed Mortarion for 40K) already said the designers are working for both AoS and 40K. Every single one of them.

I suspect it has more to do with the will of GW to develop AoS since they killed Battle. They can create whatever the hell they want because AoS universe is in its infancy (on top of being sorta "high fantasy") while 40K has an already heavily established universe AND design for every faction.

Also, 40K almost prints money on its own. That helps too.

I wasn’t aware of this. I’m guess you are probably on the money in that AoS gives the designers a lot more freedom than 40k. That and putting something in 40k box means it will sell regardless of the sculpt (which is probably why some of the 40k stuff looks pretty low effort compared to the AoS stuff).

That would also explain why the vampires all have Cursed City style icons. Radukar and Granny Wolf get a pass, since they've got a shared lineage. But the Rat guy is also rocking a similar symbol (and even came from the Cursed City), plus the other vampire with a long dress has the symbol too.

Honestly, I'm surprised Radukar isn't an expansion, because I definitely figured we'd get him as a werewolf eventually. It'll be weird if we don't get "normal" Radukar too, since there's got to be a reason he is on a separate sprue. They did the same thing with the Big Bad of BSF.

Wonder if Kritza will come with rats. His warcom article described him as: In addition to being accompanied by his ‘vermintide’ of rats – both living and undead – Kritza can transform into a swarm of rodents to evade his foe.

Cursed City had a few Corpse rat swarms, but we haven't seen them get models for soulblights yet. I'll be disappointed if his "rat swarm" ability is just him being able to escape combat and the vermintide that accompanys him is only fluff.

Regarding the cursed city expansions, I doubt the rumour is true. The soulblight book was sent to the printers months ago, and there’s every indication that whatever problems happend with cursed city, happened recently. This seems pretty clear from the sudden change In messaging.

The more likely scenerario is that cursed city was intended to be released several months ago as an introduction to the Soulblight range and to the bloodlines that feature in the book.

The bases on the new characters are also rather large for a board game, the aesthetics of the bases and the rim colour don’t match the cursed city ones.
I really hope they say something about cursed city on Thursday if only to put an end to the constant conspiracy theories.

Regarding the reveals overall I am both happy with the models we’ve seen so far and disappointed with the format.

Today’s show confirmed my fears about warhammer fest which is that they don’t have much to show. In a usual preview they would show about 5 things. We have had 2 days of reveals but have only seen 4 things so far.
They also promised interviews but with just one prerecorded soundbite each day that aspect is rather lackluster. I want to hear from the designers the background writers and the artists.
I would love to see an interview with the artists who did the awesome covers of the sisters and Soulblight books.

Overall I think it would have been better to do 2 longer shows on Saturday and Sunday.

Well, that seems to be intentional. They're purposefully not dreadnoughts. No verge-of-death pilots, veteran space marines with too much battle-wisdom to be allowed to die mercifully.

The problem really isn't the concept of the warsuits, but the execution. Part of it is obviously an attempt to distinguish them from dreads (and tau battlesuits); but the sticking point is the model- an exposed pilot with a weird leg join. Mumble Veil in the Purge Mirabelle (or whatever that string of absolute nonsense is supposed to be) looks much better than the basic warsuits simply because they hid the hip/leg assembly.

It still doesn't quite stack up to the engineering of the war walker (though this is obviously a more detailed model), simply because the walker shows all the joints, but gives the pilot some physical cover and also goes 'yeah, force field, suckers.' Even the Sentinel is a more practical design.

The main problem is that they already had a super flavorful and unique war walker unit (actually two!). There was no reason they needed another, blander, more boring one.

Just like SoB already had a banner carrying buff special character, so why did they need a new one?

Just like SoB already had an inspiring leader (and obvious Joan-of-Arc character) that also serves as a buff character, so why did they need yet another one?

Etc etc. Really the tanky melee sisters are the only thing in this release that feel like they aren't just a retread of something Sisters already have.

Isn't that something of a risk all 40K armies face? After enough time there's not that much in the way of new designs to implement. The primaris marines could very much be viewed as retreads of existing stuff rather than new designs. I think the only thing they have that's truly unique would be the firestrike turret thing. Most of the rest is just, oldmarines but made bigger and tougher.

I think there's plenty of cool, weird, gothic grimdark stuff they could have added to sisters.

Instead they largely went bland Tacticool + a bunch more unnecessary buff characters in an army already overflowing with them.

For example, just off the top of my head, instead of a tacticool Predator clone, why not an armored pulpit on wheels with a preacher on top who calls down the Emperor's wrath on the enemy, then blasts them to kingdom come with holy hand grenade launchers?

They already had an alternative to the tacticool warsuits, so I would have used those resources to do something else cool and gothic - maybe bikes ridden by Hell's Angels inspired biker gangs, except that their tattoos and iconography are of the Emperor and the Imperial Eagle instead. Call them Brides of the Emperor or something like that. Fiercely devoted to the Emperor and the Imperial cause, unorthodox in their methods and therefore distrusted by the powers that be, but grudgingly tolerated because of their usefulness and because their parallel hierarchy based on sisterhood and loyalty to the other members of the gang makes them a good place to put Sisters who don't respond well to the normal discipline system.

This is just me tossing random ideas at a wall, I'm sure professionals with time on their hands could come up with cooler stuff along the same lines.
