Is gaunt meant to have a Chainsword, or a power sword?
The previous miniature and older cover art show him with a power sword, but the new miniature and a few pieces of updated cover art have him with a chainsword, while some of the new stuff has a power sword. It's been a while since I read any of the series so I'm not sure which is accurate.

I’d like him to tell me again how much admech players need to pay for all of their rules. Just once or twice more...
Automatically Appended Next Post:
In his early career he uses a chain sword. He swaps over to the power sword in book 2
Or 3 or something when he is presented it for being super amazing and saving all the peeps.

Gaunt originally had a chainsword. It was near the end of the siege of Verunhive (book 3 Necropolis) that he was given a power sword.
I think these models are based on the first few books. So no females yet and Milo is still an underage non-com.

But this really isn't the herald of a guard sub-faction production line. There's a pile of book-related and event-related guard (and other imperial) characters from the last few years. They're primarily shelf models, not game models.
They even say so:

Not that 'budding or experienced Imperial commander' (ie, gaming) isn't in there.

Why are you assuming they are going to get a bunch of updates in the near future? I’m genuinely curious because I haven’t seen anything to indicate it and I love Guard. I might actually play 40k again if they get some decent plastic infantry. Since 2013 all they have gotten are a few (admittedly nice looking) special release characters and this special release squad. I haven’t seen or heard any rumors pointing to them getting anything that is actually a normal release though.

People's imaginations are always going to run away like that. Some of those people then get it into their heads that what they think should happen is what's actually going to happen, and then they get mad when it doesn't. The sane, rational people know that this is a BL release, and thus is tied to a novel/novel series and isn't related to some grand plan for 40k proper. To expect, infer or otherwise believe that this release points to anything more than that is just silly. Sabotage! wrote:Why are you assuming they are going to get a bunch of updates in the near future?
Honestly? The rumour engine. There have been a number of things that could easily be Guard-related in there. Now, they could just as easily be GSC or perhaps even Ork related, but that alone isn't reason to doubt that the Guard could be in line for a big release in the future. The Gaunts Ghosts box is no indication of that however, as they're a BL tie-in release. People need to realise that.

Nope, I'm ok with it as well.
Way back in the day, the rhino was described as the workhorse of the Imperium, and was widely used by everybody. That was in large part due to the fact that it was the first vehicle GW made, and they wanted to sell as many of them as possible so made them available to every army... But for my money, they should have stuck with it, at least for the imperial factions. Instead of the Chimera, Guard should have just had a Guard-ified rhino variant. And any other Imperial factions should have their own rhino variants, and associated heavier versions where appropriate.
By all means give each faction some unique gear as well, but more rhinos for everyone, I say!

I really liked those Ghosts 'n' Stuff. Tempted to grab more than one for the actual unit and another for generic heroes/leaders, but I still need an actual Catachan starter set; the current Defence Force is just a "one click list" box, with no actual savings. I wouldn't mind updated Catachan miniatures.
Sorry for you Cadian Regiments out there, but Catachan is were I want to be if I were to be a Guard.
Now, let's wait for the inevitable Cursed City expansion reveal tomorrow.

The detractors will always be louder than the benefactors. These kits are going to sell like hotcakes.
Complainers like these feel a need to voice their complaints, but people that like the kits wont bother adding their voice here. They'll just go and buy the models.
Same with the Sisters of Battle Castigator tank. I love it. But I know if I say that out loud in some of these forums, I'll just get a couple replies of people talking about why they *dont* like it.
Same again with the mutant vampire-taur, mother of nightmares. I love it. Most people I see commenting just talk about how they think it was a rushed kitbash.
At the end of the day, complainers are going to always be louder. Even if the complainers are in the extreme minority, they will make sure their opinion is heard/read by someone.
Heck, I've complained pretty loudly here and there myself, and once in a while I gotta check myself and remember that this is a hobby that I'm supposed to actually, y'know, enjoy.

The error you are making is that assuming that all these complaints are all being made by the same person, or that if one complaint isn't valid therefore all complaints are invalid. If you lump everything together and just generalise in an attempt to rebut the points, then you're essentially doing a variation of reductio ad absurdum mixed with a good ol' fashioned strawman. I like the Gaunts Ghost models not because of nostalgia (as you have attempted to imply - I've never read a Gaunts Ghost book, and have no emotional attachment to that story or the characters) but because they're unique moodels, and, with most unique minis, my mind immediately turns to how I can use them for the 40K RPGs (I also love collecting unique one-off minis, as I have dozens of Ltd. Ed. 40k models, like old army box models and the Skullz AdMech unit, and so on). The fact that these are mono-pose miniatures that I like doesn't invalidate the unhappiness many of us feel towards GW's shift towards fewer options (both from a weapons and posing perspective). Liking a miniature that's mono-pose doesn't mean that criticisms of other mono-pose minis are suddenly invalidated. In fact, if this wasn't a box of named characters and was just a generic 'Tanith 1st & Only Infantry Set', then you'd find a lot of people annoyed at the fact that they're all mono-posed and optionless. And tactical rocks are stupid when everything has one.

Digital sculpts make design elements reusable. I wouldn't assume or expect anything, but the existence of modern Tanith designs makes a conventional release significantly more likely.
Danny76 wrote:Eisenhorn has nothing to lead.
Technically Severina doesn’t either as Cadians aren’t her lot.
Eisenhorn isn't a leader and Severina follows the generic Commissar design which is effectively regiment-agnostic.
This group fits leading a Tanith army.
What I mean is, Raine leads the Antari Rifles, and there are no models for them, she’s just to be used as a display piece, or thrown into regular IG.
Ghosts, the same.
5he fact they’ve done early years Ghosts, means we could see another batch (in a year or two), maybe with the more advanced Gaunt too.

There's a big difference between monopose display pieces you buy one time and boxes of troops that you need 20 or more of.
If they made a new Guardsman box and had some guy perched up on a low-res tree stump it would look dumb as hell.
Same goes for the constant "tactical rocks", or very animated poses that repeat over and over.

Even the Poxwalkers for instance, too similar after 16 you get repeats.
And stuff like that doesn’t have huge diorama bases, it’s even harder when they do like these.
But to me, these are meant to sit in front of the books on your Gaunts Ghosts shelf, nothing else.
They get rules, so GW can sell even more. But main target is BL/Display types..
My guess for Siege is ADB book 7, then finish it all off with Abnett.

I'll consider buying the kit for Necromunda conversions (although I wish the sniper didn't have his weapon swaddled in a winter scarf, and one of the two "holding my tiny knife" guys was doing something else).
Yeesh, you seem kind of bitter. There was about 10 of those "lowbrow books". Dan Abnett is widely regarded as one of the best BL writers, from Gaunt, to Eisenhorn and Ravenor, and some of the "best" of the Heresy books.
I'm cringing at what the cost is going to be, as I want them to use with several skirmish rulesets. At least they are new 40K figures that also aren't Necrons or Primaris.

That really wasn't where I was going with that (which was simply that they aren't the harbinger of more guard models), but to answer your question:
Five years ago? Nope, not at all.
Now, when GW has spent more than a year struggling to maintain stock of even basic kits? And completely fluffing the release of a new boxed game? And still has basic models for multiple factions to bring into plastic? Yeah, a bit.
I'll trade vampire-dragons and gaunts ghosts for a new basic guard infantry & heavy weapon team box, or a pair of eldar aspects in a heartbeat. [Feel free to insert any two resin kits from any faction instead of guard or eldar]

I really hope so. I have been assuming they are GSC or Ork related, because other than Black Library, GW has pretty much forgotten about Guard for nearly a decade. And those plastic Cadians and Catachans (not the command squads mind you) looked bad a decade ago. I’m still kind of confused as to why they haven’t updated the range. It would literally take 1 kit (or two if they redo HW squads) to make the whole army look pretty darn good.

Gaunt got power sword in the end of book 3 for saving hive city and with his beloved chainsword having been destroyed in the process.
So represents earlier gaunt. Likely tie-in to new book thats on unspecified date from earlier mission. Possibly alternative weapon on sprue. Not mentioned but not denied either. But this really isn't the herald of a guard sub-faction production line. There's a pile of book-related and event-related guard (and other imperial) characters from the last few years. They're primarily shelf models, not game models.
At this point most of what GW puts out I'd classify more as shelf models rather than game models Automatically Appended Next Post: You must be so glad that GW introduced tactical swirly stuff
