Have to say, these make me very hopeful for Warlock Skyrunner conclaves...

Especially if they still get the free slot (Elites or Fast Attack? Hmm...) for each Farseer.

35pts is way too much for a single Warlock with those stats.

Admech Datasmith is 2PL about those points, might even be cheaper. WS/BS3+ Str4, T4, W4, 2+/5++ with a pseudo melta pistol and a power fist with 2 attacks. I certainly wouldnt take a squad of them for that price, even if they had psychic powers as well.

...are you seriously trying to cherrypick the Datasmith to try to make the Warlock look terrible?

The 1 per Elite slot unit designed to basically only function to its full potential if a Kastelan Robot is on the field? That Datasmith?

Get outta here with that!

your mind

The dire avengers exarch's shimmershield is dandy.

There seems to be some concern about them being elites. I remember that being a problem in past editions. Wouldn't the idea be to field 3 units of 3 rangers (or something like it, e.g. 5 guardians, ...) to help pad the troops choices (and potentially take up a lot of space on the board) in order to open up more elite slots?

I seem to recall them being very dangerous in melee at one point in time. Were they still good in 3rd? I'm sure they had Force Weapons or something like that at one point.

But then at some point their weapons got changed to wound on 2+ and do naff-all else.

3e was when they nerfed a lot of Eldar stuff to the ground. Shuriken catapults went from being better stormbolters to crappy shotguns then as well.

Fairly confident in 3rd singing spears and witchblades was always wound on 2s, no effect on armour. But you counted as 3 times your strength for armour penetration. So you had a good chance to blow stuff up.

Warlocks have historically had multiple helmet options. Maybe if it's not just one model, the others will have more traditional ones, like the skyrunner

Agreed, that will make a noticable difference in volume. Although my only opponent at the moment is my son who play Salamanders...who ignore AP-1.
Probably for the best though as he only has a small force and not much to adapt with

Okay, fluff aside: at what point did shuriken weapons get to the point when they were supposed to have any real AP capabilities? Like, mechanics, whatever, maybe it's exactly what they need, but like isn't their attack supposed to represent a hail of relatively weak shots, not things that chew armor?

From the beginning in Rogue Trader? That was their whole thing- monomolecular discs that just cut through everything. They were the best basic weapon in the game for 2 editions, then 3rd happened and they became crappy shotguns.

Er, the farseer there is not a warlock, and the rest have the same kind of helmet with small variations, so...

The helmets have historically been the way of setting them apart.

Shotgun was S3 AP- compared to shuricat's S4 AP5. This was also an edition where you could shoot only once up to 12'' with rapid fire weapons if you moved, so 12'' assault 2 complemented Eldar-style mobile warfare without being too strong.

This. I'm aware that it's a farseer alongside three warlocks, but the spear guy's helmet is much more distinct than the standard warlock helmet

Excited for the new Warlock and also wishing it is in a set with options like the new Autarch but maybe that is being greedy

Think its greedy

Not really sure if there is muchj point in giving a 2W character model many options

Historically its always been shuriken pistol/witchblade singing spear I think.

According to the leaked profile pic, that's all they have available to take.

I have a feeling the release will be a box that makes one model, but it has like 5 heads, 5 arms, one torso and 2 sets of skirt legs...

So it will be expensive but still only make one model. Happy to be surprised, but that's the feeling i get...

I'm going to guess a small box of 3, with 4-5 heads and sword or spear options. Wouldnt take up much sprue space, probably a single sprue the size that Grimaldus or Helbrect have 2 of

I'm hoping for a box of 3. There will be enough swords/spears for the lot of 'em, as well as helmetless heads for people who want Ynarri. You can fit a lot on small sprues these days.

3 in one box would be great!
But is there ever a kit released with more than the minimum number of models for the unit in them, nowadays?

Only if GW reduces the minimum post-relase.

New Ork Kommando kit has 10, but the minimum is 5 (as that was the size of the last kit).

Technically, the standalone version of the Kommando kit wasn't relased yet, so don't jinx it.

The sprue makes 10 models.

So are warlock conclaves still garbage? So for 200 points you get 6 guys with 2 powers and they die super easy to a squad of marines shooting bolters or charging them? Sucks

Yeah, this. For the record, for anyone that hasn’t handled the Kommando kit, it’s a single three-fold sprue with all the options baked in, which makes ten models. There wasn’t even a bonus “kill team options sprue” - the ten models and all their kit was part of the basic layout. To make a Kommando set with only 5 models, a new sprue would need to be cut.
