This. I'm aware that it's a farseer alongside three warlocks, but the spear guy's helmet is much more distinct than the standard warlock helmet
Thing is, all warlocks had the same style of faceplate (full face instead of going from the eyebrows down), very distinctive and different from all other eldar ones, whereas the farseer one is more like the rest. That, along with the nape's "bump" makes warlock helmets very specifically warlock ones, whereas an added topknot (which is the whole difference of the spear one with the others on the current ones, otherwise they are exactly the same) is very minor.
The new one, though, clearly changes the faceplate to make it the same as any other eldar one (or that's what it seems, at least) and it's quite hard to see if there's a nape "bump" (seems there isn't) even if the side gems are there and it has a topknot.
Spoiler:
So at the moment I'd say it's quite different. I'll reserve judgement on whether or not I like it when I can actually see it. But different it is, and it's a departure from the classic warlock design.

I just wonder how the Novitiates and Kriegers are gonna be relased
the sprue sets for the sisters and kriegers would probably fit in the standard gw 'troop' size box for the 3 sprue's. If I recall gw said something that each kill team would eventually availed separately and not just locked to the box set.
new eldar models looking good though, good to see some of the "Space marine Commander" style weapon options for the new character kit for weapon options and extra bitz.

Picture quiality is terrible, but I think I see a faint outline of the classic helmet design (i.e.: I think they just painted his forehead white, which we have seen before as well).I hope I'm not just imagining things though, I really want to see the classis warlock helmet design preserved, and if the new kit doesn't have that, I'll have to transplant those heads from the skyrunner kit.
On my Warlock Skyrunner I only painted the faceplate black because I never got why the 'eavy Metal team always painted the whole forehead in a contrasting colour, as the Warlock helmet is based on the classic Eldar Guardian helmet shape like all other models:
Probably the 'Eavy Metal team did the same for the new sculpt.
From Jes' sketches for the Warlock/Farseer Skyrunner you can see that the Warlock helmet is based on the Guardian helmet with another "layer" of detail on top. There is also the inspiration for the topknot:
Found in the Asuryani Sketchbook.

It's quite possible, as said, the quality is terrible. It seems like the original idea was more like the skyrunner, with a distinct "face" like in all other eldar helmets. I personally prefer the heads from the older warlocks, where it's clear the face is elongated instead of having a separate forehead plate.

Oh this is really interesting, thanks! I never noticed that on the Skyrunner helmet and just assumed it was one big face-plate like on the older metal Warlocks.
Automatically Appended Next Post: What I *really* want is a Farseer with the old bug eye helmet.

That is based on the "new" desings though, so the old warlocks dont have that clear cut, and I think I and some prefer it that way. But appearantly you're right and thats the way they're going. As much as I craved plastic warlocks, I was hoping for an exact copy of the old ones.
Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like soup. Now you put soup in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put soup into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now soup can flow or it can crash. Be soup, my friend.

Shurikens are supposed to be monomolecular discs that are capable of piercing through any armor, so no.

This one is from the nineties and has the same features (basic Eldar helm with a psychic bulge at the rear)

Since forever ago:
Spoiler:
It had the same save modifier as a plasma gun, at the time. So, totally armor defeating.

You'll note there's a marked difference in the face, though: this one has a full plate, the other sketches feature the same faceplate all other eldar helmets have.

Yeah there has been some evolution in the design but it all tracks (for example, "Eldar Officer" from the same era / batch of sketches has the same faceplate as this but with a more ornate skull piece). The design is consistent - basic helm (differs with iteration) plus psychic nodes to rear.
warpedpig wrote: So are warlock conclaves still garbage? So for 200 points you get 6 guys with 2 powers and they die super easy to a squad of marines shooting bolters or charging them? Sucks
I expect they will serve a similar niche that they did in 9th, a two man for buffs and to deny assassinate points. No one ever ran them as a 6 man. The fact that they now don't take up detachment slots is a welcome change and I'd say they'll see play either as the foot or bike variant.

I saw a video from the Auspex Tactics guy yesterday that seem to indicate when you take them in a conclave they're only 25pts each as they lose the Character keyword that would otherwise protect them from being just blown away by any single 9th ed weapon shot lol
If we're wishlisting on the contents of the warlock box, I'd like to options for antlers and the little crest like on the OLD alternate singing spear and las pistol warlock respectively.
The Red Hobbit wrote: Wouldn't the Conclave still mean that high damage weapons would only kill one model at a a time?
Sure, but there's no need to put high damage weapons into them. Bolters or the equivalent will do the trick.
I've found that more often than not ignore LoS weapons are put into them, which was a fantastic trade for a unit costing 80 points. They have been an extremely easy unit to hide.
Crimson wrote: *sigh* I still keep holding out hope that one day the Eldar Seers would again be formidable warrior-mystics like they were in 2e.
Well, in 1st edition in their original list they were wimps. WS/BS and S(!) 2 for the Warlocks and a random, weak profile for the Farseer to show how far they were on the way becoming a crystal tree. I wasn't fond of those insane stats in 2nd edition, where a Farseer killed my Tyranid Warriors with a psychic hologram. They were better warriors than Exarchs.

That is how I ran the Conclave; chaep 80 point unit that could cast Jinx with a 36" range out of LOS. Shoot the indirect at them was a win for me as many times only one would die from one unit of indirect fire and then my opponent would need to decide I putting more firepower into the remaining model was worth it.
Tactics will likely change based on leaks, but a Conclave at 80 points was far from trash.
No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.
Skinnereal wrote: Is that because we still have the same old models?
It's funny you should say that. I saw someone selling a complete set of 2nd Ed cards on FB earlier today. Had 40k core, Dark Millennium and a lot of extra cards. The photos had all the vehicle Datafax cards spread out, and I could see that a few of those minis - Falcon, Vyper and Space Marine bike - are still on sale. All the rest has been replaced, sometimes more than once, but those three were still there.
29 years since 2nd Ed.

If you need me, I’m trying to talk my wallet down from the ledge. It’s not taking all these reveals very well. Poor thing. Going to be a rough year financially.
