You never played Tyranids?

Tyranids are the ironic exception. As I mentioned further down in that same comment, my Raveners envy that the Cataphractii were allowed to keep their old min unit size. Raveners were sold in 3s but now in 5s, and 3/6 is no longer playable!

One more reason I am all into Heresy nowadays. Fixed unit sizes are a scourge.

Definitely a better scaling compared to the previous ones.

Just a shame no Lightning Claws. Hopefully I can add “yet” to the end of that.

I’m not criticising the new Cataphractii design. But is anyone else old and decrepit enough to just find Terminators not wielding Power Fists a waste?

Power fists, smower fists. But where are the chainfists? Do these models honestly not contain the bits for chainfists? That's the most obvious "Terminators only" weapon option. Like, yuck.

They say there's one chainfist in the kit that comes with the flamer

I am interested in making MKVI breachers from the upcoming upgrade sprue. I wonder if the spare arms that come with the Heavy Weapons kits would work for this? The arms that come in the upg. sprue look too "medieval" for my sensibilities. Also need to cut out those larger cylindircal mags and retrofit em to my resin umbra bolters, hope there is an easy cutting point on the weapon..

Ooooooo.......one. Old kit had enough for the entire squad. And no lightning claws either. Not knocking the overall design. It's nice. But weapon options are . At least they still include Reapers. Though I wonder how many.

Also: on the 3 man squads/Tyranids stuff: Tyranids are weird. They're supposed to be. You know: "Threat from outside the known galaxy". Stuff like that.

Nothing against 3 man squads in general. It’s fine for other forces. But classically the imperium has always been 5 or 10 man squads. And 30k should stick with that when it can, being the “historical” game.

40k xenos forces mandated 10 man squads always felt a little wrong. Why would tyranids field in blocks of 10? No reason but box size.

Box sizes, and that it's probably easier to balance defined unit sizes rather than per-model costs.

SM bikers also started out at a squad of 3, and I think Centurions were the first modern unit to do the 3-6 unit size for marines. Guard special weapon squads and heavy weapon squads were 6 men with 3 guns, and ogryns were base of 3. Plus most vehicle squadrons were 1-3 vehicles

Add Mechanicum and Custodes in HH - 3 models are quite common there.

Thanks for this Stahly! Great job as always (thanks also for the Tamiya Putty recommendation, will check it out for sure!)

This pict really drives it home for me. Anyone saying the old models were superior to the new one, take a deep breath, blink a couple times and take a look at this - still think the new one's are rubbish?

To me old eye, the old model looks super manlet-y and pathetic intern tier sculpt compared to the new one

Meh? Seems marginal to me. If I was getting into Heresy today and they were the first Terminators I bought, they'd be cool.

But they aren't even remotely so much better that I would want to replace all my old ones. Especially with the stingy box contents.

Yes.

A good quality scale picture doesn't automatically make them less gak. The ridiculous oversized thigh plates and the waspy waist haven't suddenly vanished. Nor has the crap new helmet/gorget.

OoOoOooh so they're a millimetre or so taller. That changes eveeeerything.

I'd like the new ones a lot more if their tassets were serving any purpose. It would also help to bulk out the waistline.

Meh, at this point I've gone full circle back to pre-Black Book Heresy using old models and converting older Tacticals with scrounged gubbins.

The only thing I've been interested in recently was the Fellblade, and even then it's as expensive to get a plastic one now as it was a resin one back when it first came out.

I'm glad people are able to get everything easily now, God knows I don't wish the FW dark ages back where we had to pool to make one order with free delivery and got dirty looks from certain staffers because we weren't playing 40k.
But a lot of the time now it just feels like there's no spark or soul in it anymore.

Yeah they’re nice enough but not “so good I want to replace my current set” nice.
Besides, my list wants Tartaros armour and I’m hoping for a refresh there.

Anyway, does anyone have any idea when the new kits will be available separately? I want some Breachers but not badly enough to buy new terminators and a leviathan to get them.

It varies but something fairly central to the range like this tends to be within a month or so.

Silhouette and options of the old kit are better imo, not sure what you're seeing here what makes them that much worse.

Looking at that pic, the waist is the same width, but the old sculpt has extra trim on the bottom of the torso while the new one has the thigh pads that make the waist wider visually.

I like both.

Certainly, the squad being armed with Lightning Claws aside (scritchy scratchy, bozo!) I don’t feel any compulsion to be replacing them. But equally? If I do want to add more to my ever growing collection, I don’t feel the need to hunt down the old (existing?) kit to do so.

Oh and Stahly was pretty disappointed with the new poses and their limp noodle arms. There's also a visual imbalance between the tiny power fist side and the massive combi-bolter side on that loadout.

Yeah. Other than the size queen obsession with scale creep, the new porportions are gangly and whatever is inside doesn't have the feeling that it is a wall of meat like Marines are (used to be) described as.

I will give credit to the new sculpt in having the arms attach to the shoulders in a way that makes anatomical sense.

Personally I'm pretty meh on them, now that I've had a proper look. The arms position is quite better, that's for sure. But I already have as many as I need, so... nope.

And then there's the price of the box... 170 euros for 20 bodies and a dreadnought is... pretty insane.

Who still plays in a GW store, and where in the world are you? Is it still a thing?

Still remember, in the late 00s, being asked why my World Eaters were white and blue and not red. Having to use 'counts as' 40k codecies for rules, jumpers for goalposts etc!
