Never. The expedition sent to uncover it starved to death when the lead archeologist found a machine that produced shiny metal balls and refused to do anything else from that point on.

Looks like Indy 5 is headed back for a round of massive reshoots.
According to rumors they did a screening of the current cut, which didn't exactly please anyone. A phone call was placed to Kathleen Kennedy, which basically said, "Fix it or it's on you."
Rumored fixes: More Indy, less snark from co-star. There is a scene where the female lead is kidnapped (similar to Raiders of the Lost Ark) only to be rescued later in the film. Kidnapping will now occur earlier, and saving her later.

Speaks poorly of the writers, the director, maybe the female lead (if she's truly that unpleasant, why was she cast?) or the rumor-monger. 'Rescue the damsel' is very much not a 2020s plot element, and taking the female lead out of the film for longer will go over like a sack of crap.

John Williams publicly stated on Dec 12 there would be reshoots, but the next day Director James Mangold denied this. Word is that Director James Mangold DID like the original cut, hence his mid-December "no reshoots" statement.
A private screening for Bob Iger (CEO of Disney and head of the board) later happened, and he was not pleased with it.
Now, a part of me is in the "I want to believe" camp. I know there is a large probability of this being a blogger's wet dream. However, franchises touched by Kathleen Kennedy have taken a few turns that have NOT been met well with the fandom. Plus she's trashed the franchises' fans before. If this costs Disney money they very well might want to pull in a bit of slack on her leash.

Sequels were plenty profitable. Mando and Andor both critically acclaimed and beloved by the audience. Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan a bit ropey by comparison, but still well received enough.
The only real stinker was Solo, and even that isn’t a bad film, just something nobody asked for that never really found its audience. There’s still plenty there to enjoy, it’s worst crime is being entirely superfluous.
Again this rumour really sounds like a 4chan Five Tissue Fantasy. Not only am “Crazy Kathleen” in the lorg trub, but becoz wimmin lead.
As ever for clarity, this isn’t having a pop at Cuda for sharing it.

I find little value in fretting over how the sausage is made. Happy to hear about the final product, but all the insider blog nonsense results in weird expectations.

The rumor is that they felt the film had too little emphasis on the title character, and too much on the supporting actor. It would be like if Shia Lebuff had an extra 15 minutes of solo screen time in Crystal Skull. No one wants that. The actress's delivery wasn't bad per se, but just too much of the "eyeroll sarcasm". Sometimes less is more. Totally pulling this out of my butt, but if she's been cut back I bet it's less than 10 minutes or less.
As for the damsel in distress thing, this IS an Indian Jones film after all. It's a trope that works for it, and a huge part of the viewers will be generational fans wanting a bit of nostalgia. "Going over like a sack of crap" might be what happens, but it might be the lesser of two evils. I think that they would face criticism from one group or another no matter what they did. Minimize damage if they can't eliminate it.

Oh, I fully expected a "STFU, this isn't real" shuffle. Thanks for clarifying. I'm not sure I put faith in it either, but I did find the reasoning for it interesting if it is accurate.

I was under the impression that those were Iger's words to Kennedy. Of course, passing the buck is de rigueur in corporate circles, so...

Not much new. Though, the 'Refresh my memory, are you still a Nazi?' scene, I have no idea who the guy is, he's been CGI de-aged so hard he is unrecognizable.
That seems to repeat several more times during the parade and a couple others scenes. The just copy-pasted 'de-aging' over indistinguishable bodies.

That and Box Office Bingo (i.e. debates about how profitable a given film was/will be) are two fan obsessions that just didn't exist in the same way years ago. Reshoots have been a thing in Hollywood for a long time and they happen regularly...now it's a big source of conversation and hand-wringing. Is it really a wonder why 'fans' don't seem to enjoy much of anything anymore?

Exactly.
I don't need to know about the drama before I see the movie.
Once I've seen the movie? Then it becomes interesting trivia.

I guess it’s just greater access to the movie making process, coupled with Mindless Clickbait Articles, and indeed Curious Agendas.
We of course know reshoots are common. And they can be for various reasons, such as the sound not turning out right first time around, or the Director/Producer realising a scene that should be cut contains important dialogue, which they need to weave into a different scene. Could be the lighting just wasn’t consistent. Could be continuity, such as a bruise suffered during filming wasn’t as well covered by makeup Dept. Could also be “oh god this bloody horrible and we need to replace a given actor entirely”.

Rumor has it that if Indy 5 doesn't do at least $900 million, it's Kennedy's head on a platter for Iger.
As a result, I'm torn. I want it to be good, or at least decent, because it's Indy. But the chance to see KK sent packing in disgrace after destroying Star Wars is also quite tempting...
