Shoresy is pretty fantastic. They took a two note, largely unseen foul mouthed joke character from Letterkenny, and hung a pretty great exploration of hockey players and small time teams around him- while never shying away from his absolutely vile speech and behavior, on and off the ice.

It's only 6 episodes so if you haven't watched it yet- learn what it is to want to never lose again!

To me, part of the problem is just knowing what is and isn't a spin-off. Many of the shows I watched as a kid in the 80s were spin-offs of other shows, but I don't know which ones.

And while we're on the subject of Dragnet, is the TV series considered a spin-off of the original radio show? I don't think so, personally, as that's more remake/reboot/continuation-in-different-format.

And should we get started on the Tommy Westphall Universe Hypothesis?

I don’t want to offer a particular definition here, as I fear that definition would become the topic.

Example? The LOTR movies are spin-offs of the novels. But the novels, as sequels to The Hobbit only featuring a handful of carry over characters and cameos could be said to be spin-offs rather than sequels.

Same with Star Trek. TNG, DS9 et al are part sequel, part reinvention of TOS.

So, I say nominate away, and if someone points out your spin-off came from a spin-off of an original, we can enjoy Nerd Connects and up a wee bit better informed, and maybe end up discovering a new show or book or whatever to love

In a Yugo? Surely there isn’t enough space… but we are in danger of swerving into a different comedy altogether.

Under MDGs definition above then all the H2G2 releases are all spin-offs from each other. Radio series, record, tv series, book series, film. All based on the same premise and sharing various features, it each of them different

I'm going to say Dragnet the movie is a sequel. The did have the same actor come back to play Gannon.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (first three seasons for sure, four and five subjective), then Angel, the spin off of the spin off.

I don't view Buffy the Series as spinoff - I see the movie as just an offshoot of the project which produced the show
Angel, of course, was great, last seasons of Angel were actually better than last seasons of Buffy.

Xena is of course obvious one. I actually didn't initially even know it was spinoff of Hercules, as it so completely overshadowed the parent show. And the writing was, at the times, shockingly good.

I'll admit, its pretty embarrassing to put this show in amongst a list of spinoffs like BCS, Angel etc. but as a former connoisseur of garbage Reality TV, I loved MTV's Road Rules versus Real World : The Challenge.

It took cast members from the aforementioned tv shows and pitted them against each other in physical/mental challenges. As I said, it was trash TV, but it was much more fun then the shows that spawned it.

I stopped watching years ago, because it got stale and kind of sad watching the contestants get older/more desperate. I think its still going?

For us old farts with a little nostalgia, Just the 10 of US was a spinoff of Growing Pains. I have to admit, I had a crush on at least to of those daughters growing up.
