Same.

It’s not just scale creep, but scope creep. Back in the day a ‘fex or a dreadnought was a significant formidable foe. Now in a world of knights and other Lord of War stuff they are middling at best.

Bit sad, but the game moves on.

While true, even back then Carnifexes already kinda looked small when put next to a Leman Russ or a Land Raider.

I feel like it'd be more silly to try to figure out which weapons in every faction are specifically good against carnifexes and not dreadnoughts (or tyranid warriors, for that matter). If you want to bring back the distinction between monsters and vehicles then "monsters are lower toughness baseline but don't care if a weapon is designed to crack tanks" seems reasonable enough.

If that is the design though I might worry about monsters just not being very good.

I'd be surprised if the new beast-hunting Orks that came out last edition didn't have rules for hunting monsters.

Yeah Screamer Killers and the crab-fexes were fairly small against a tank. The Fex didn't really feel big until the plastic generation of them (Which we still have today).

Of course now the fex is indeed the middle-weight generalist model whereas once it was the heavyweight.

It's a bit of shame in some ways, but also super cool because we've gained so many awesome specialist models. I almost feel like the fex as a concept is almost heading toward retirement.

The Screamer Killer already takes out the 4 scything talon version and it would not surprise me if we might see the Fex broken down further over time into named variations. It has the bonus that you can give them better focused stats - so a screamer killer built for close combat but low on ranged stats etc... It also means we can get more unique styles and poses; akin to how the plastic kit had multi-eyed head variations that you'd generally always want to put on your ranged ones etc...

I do think that there is a fair chance that we may see a new carnifex kit with the new codex.

GW updated a few things in Necrons that surprised me and didn't update others that also surprised me (eg why they didn't update the regular destroyers and destroyer lord).

So it can be really hard to predict what will and won't see new models or revised ones.

On that? Outside of named characters and the Destroyer Lord, I’m pretty sure Necrons ditched all their Finecast models for plastic redos?

If we can use that as a measuring stick (and only if) then Nids may well be in for a lot of love.

They did say this was the biggest range revamp they've ever done for Tyranids so I suspect there is still plenty more to come in terms of new stuff. Outside of indomitus (which already included new warriors, skorpekh lord and destroyers, royal warden, new overlord sculpt, canoptek reanimator and plasmancer) necrons got:

New monolith
New lokhust heavy destroyers
Void dragon
Doomstalkers
Ophydian destroyers
Hexmark destroyer
Silent king
Chronomancer
Psychomancer
Flayed ones
Crypto thralls

So I would think Tyranids will get plenty more beyond the Leviathan box. I think a plastic LoW seems a solid bet.

Thing is those last few finecast have been dead certain update models for the last 10 years of Tyranids

Time and again GW has pulled a newly invented unit out of its bum rather than updating models that need updating.

Most recently with Barbgaunts instead of Biovores

Which is the exact opposite of their approach when it comes to Dark Eldar. A range in dire need of new units that only ever gets updates that are worse than the models they replaced.

The models for Dark Eldar have been lovely, but each release they take away more and more characters and units.

Hmmm. So, I'm guessing the new "starter" is going to be around $300 US, $500 AUD?

Surely, GW is going to be doing smaller starters that are actually affordable?

$250 USD, probably $800 AUD.

I'd expect recruit, elite and commander starters a month or two later. Recruit will probably be 5 flamer marines and character vs 10 grunts and winged prime. Elite could add 5 terminators against the barbgaunts or toss in the screamer killer.

420 AUD - we know it from the legal footnotes of the prize draw.

As time has passed since the initial preview, I think I have grown to not like the Carnifex. The Scything Talons and head just look a bit off for my Tyranid taste.

Of thebig Leviathan box, only the Dreadnought and the Infernus Squad appeal to me.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

This isn"t starter but launch box like indomitus.

Cheaper 3 starters will follow later.

Not sure I agree with you there about new models being worse. Sure, the Archon has a weird pose, but all the other kits that got updates are just amazing. Whether it be Wracks, Voidraven Bomber, Succubus, Incubi, and Drazhar.

However, Drukhari does suffer from being one of the books that had a ton of units(mostly characters) that just never had models and which they suffer from having lost now. They are also losing out on a few kits that have entered range rotation which is atrocious for such a small faction. However, the new models and replacement models have all been ace.

Also, in before raging at Lelith. The model is very nice. The problem is that the paint job on it doesn't really do much for it.

Same, I think it suffers a lot from a classic push-fit / one piece metal model pose where all of its limbs are in one plane and 6 is a lot of limbs to be in one plane.
