My family and I make a weekly trip to rent DVDs. There is a huge wall of American TV series, and we've mostly been watching police procedurals. We're currently working our way through Bones, Blacklist, and Blind Spot-- all several years old, but all brand new to me.
Finally finished off Andromeda. I'll give the series three and a half stars out of five with half a star just for Lexa Doig's outstanding role as Rommie I also enjoyed that you could hold a full-fledged sci-fi convention with all of the guest stars, from the X-Files, Highlander, Star Gate SG-1, Seven Days, Supernatural, The Outer Limits, etc. They even had the MCU's Cobie Smulder playing Telemachus Rade's wife in the series finale!
warboss wrote:It (Andromeda) was a fun watch for the first couple seasons that I used to lovingly call Space Hercules but it jumped the shark with a season switchover somewhere near the end (final season?) where they were stuck on a planet IIRC. I'd post details but they're massive spoilers. Same thing kind of happened unfortunately with Earth Final Conflict...
I preferred the later seasons when they got away from the 'let's almost destroy the ship and shoot off a lot of pyrotechnics' story every week. And the special effects got better in later seasons (especially the slipstream effects).
The last season went from a syndicated show to a Sci-Fi Channel show, so that may have had something to do with the changes in the last season.
Mad Doc Grotsnik wrote:Andromeda is definitely an odd one. Its high points are really solid. And let’s face it, it did a far better job of “so, now you’re in the future and everything has turned out horrible, time to put it back together again” than Discovery did.
But man does it have some real troughs. I find Tyr quite dull as a character, and he’s never really developed beyond being a Gruff Turbo Nutter. And it’s not the actor at fault.
The main problem with Tyr was his inconsistency. At times one could swear that he was bipolar.

Finished Season 4 of Arrow. I'm going to take a break from the superheroics for a bit.
Has anyone seen the Netflix animated Godzilla or Pacific Rim: The Black?
Just wondering if they were worth watching.

Do you mean the Godzilla cartoon where humanity fled Earth on a ship to avoid Godzilla and then returned later on to find bigger Godzilla? Unless it gets drastically better after episode 3 or so, it’s a waste of time.

I heard there was a Mechagodzilla City, that was my chief interest. But no es Bueno?
I'll skip it then. Any decent giant robot joy online? [No Amazon Prime here ]

It's been ages since Fredrik Knudsen has updated, but here is his newest I just watched. I always enjoy his videos. I only really know of Dwarf Fortress from Sseth Tzzentach's review of it years back (I am a fan of his channel too, so much so I'm a part of the Merchant's Guild, it's also fitting because I'm a little bit Jewish too, lol) Anyway, what an epic, tragic story.

"The best way to lie is to tell the truth." Attelus Kaltos.
My story! Secret War
After his organisation is hired to hunt down an influential gang leader on the Hive world, Omnartus. Attelus Kaltos is embroiled deeper into the complex world of the Assassin. This is the job which will change him, for better or for worse. Forevermore. Chapter 1.
The Angaran Chronicles: Hamar Noir. After coming back from a dangerous mission which left his friend and partner, the werewolf: Emilia in a coma. Anargrin is sent on another mission: to hunt down a rogue vampire. A rogue vampire with no consistent modus operandi and who is exceedingly good at hiding its tracks. So much so even the veteran Anargrin is forced into desperate speculation. But worst of all: drive him into desperate measures. Measures which drives Anargrin to wonder; does the ends, justify the means?
I'm watching the second season of Pantheon ATM. I quite liked the first season tbh
Just finished watching. The second season felt every bit as decent as the first one. It's not a work of art by any means, but thought provoking and entertaining enough for my sensibilities. I also liked the drawing style as it reminded me of early 90s animations such as Captain Planet, Denver The Last Dinosaur et al. It's a style that has some semblance of anime, but also has its own thing going on

"The larger point though, is that as players, we have more control over what the game looks and feels like than most of us are willing to use in order to solve our own problems"
Rewatching Casino Royale for the hundredth time and the first time in years. I decided to watch it after working a lot on minis of Anargrin and Raleas the main from my Diesel Punk series The Angaran Chronicles which is heavily inspired by James Bond, most particularly the trailer for Skyfall. Up to the famous chase scene where he's after Sébastien Foucan's bomb maker. What an amazing action scene, one of my all-time favourites.

Already watched this, just wanna try share it because this chick is undersubbed and viewed in my opinion. Also excellent advice, too...

Started rewatching It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia for the twentieth time. Just finished the 2nd episode of Season 2, which I think is an excellent episode, and its allegory remains relevant today. I like season 1 a lot, but after his almighty, Danny DeVito, joins the cast, the show definitely gets even better.

I feel the same way about the movie Cats I was given as part of a gag gift.
I never saw that. You should totally watch it. It can't be as bad as everyone says...

School Spirits: Pretty good show
Apothecary Diaries: Probably top 5 anime for me
I have been killing slimes for 300 years and maxed out my level: Total comfort show for me, stupidely fun though.
Still rewatching Always Sunny in Philadelphia, up to season 4, episode 9, Dennis Reynolds: An Erotic Life. Not the best episode in the show, but still enjoyable. Dennis' prose in his "memoir" is so bad it gives me as a writer a chuckle and the cameos of Sinbad and Rob Thomas are out of left field, but awesome. It's crazy they're getting cameos of such celebrities so early in the peace.

Nearly completed a re-watch of Battlestar Galactica.
The final season definitely makes a lot more sense once you’ve seen it a couple of times. Also very fond of the Galactica displaying ever more damage and fatigue as the story unfolds.

Just finished rewatching one of my all-time favourite Always Sunny episodes, "The Nightman Cometh". I forgot it was made as early as season 4 and it really is a great episode. It has to be up there with "The Gang Buys a Boat" as my favourites mostly because of Dennis' "because of the implication" scene which I found out, due to the Always Sunny podcast (which is now sadly RIP), was written by Charlie Day. He is my favourite of the main trio, but Dennis is my favourite character overall, which is funny because Charlie Day said his favourite character to write was indeed, Dennis Reynolds.

Watched the latest two episodes of DandaDan on Netflix. What a good show. Creative and beautifully animated with fun characters and world building.

Just finished watching this. Internet Historian as funny as ever (Can't beat his Area 51 video, though the prolonged animated scene when the weebs are storming it made me laugh so hard it hurt my mouth and chest). He uploaded yesterday, but I missed it. I hope he can get to doing more Expleined videos now.

Nooo.... you need to buy it and then pass it on to others. That is the only way to make sure the great evil is passed on to another.
Here you go Johnny, I know you wanted a Kitten for Christmas, but your Grandpa got you a copy of Cats instead.

And I will check that Hoplite video out. I remember going down a rabbit hole years ago and coming away with the notion that nobody really knows how the Hoplites fought exactly. Hopefully there’s some definitive answer in those videos.
Well, just like no one will ever know how a Roman Triplex Acies formation, or a Manipular Cohort actually worked. Polybius carefully explains it, and it still isn't clear at all!
However, we can get closer.... maybe?
