Not sure if it warrants a thread, but the formerly exclusive primaris company champion is part of the new MTO wave. I wonder if other warhammer world exclusive models will be released this way in the future

This is actually good news and goes in the right direction.

Here's hoping for the next round of Imperial Guard Made To Order if not sooner.

I'm glad they're doing this, there's some very nice miniatures made for special occasions that aren't available now and it's just a shame really. Hope it gets extended to other things like some of the Christmas miniatures.

Stuff like this would also be really nice to get as a reward from a promotion scheme akin to the old Skullz promotion.

Really tempted by the champ. Putting together a primaris battle company, and he’s needed for the command squad. Right now I’ve got the Judicar filling the role, but it’s truly the champions spot.

Of course, depending on how the price him, I might just be better picking up a box of BGVs and kitbashing him and two friends.

It will be exclusive for a while, but gaming models should not be locked behind geography. Swag is fine, but actual models should not.

You know you can get it at the events where it’s released. And will probably be unique in having it at least for a few years.

If and when something shows up as MTO is in the hands of fate.

But if you missed your chance, or more likely were not in the hobby at the time it was release, you were just out of luck before. People (hopefully) were not buying these event minis as investment opportunities. Reprinting them should only hurt scalpers.

Yes it does mean that people who do have rare minis will loose a little of their uniqueness. But it opens up the world to those who never had a chance to get them.

Yea. So GW chose the worst of both worlds, where some models are geography-locked, maybe, who knows; FOMO anyway just in case because they might not go MTO; but that special exclusive model you get might actually not be; wait and see.

They'd be better off just selling the models normally.

Given how ridiculous the prices were on the previous couple of MTO releases (the 40k Armageddon Steel Legion and the most recent Middle-Earth one) it'll probably be a hard pass for me.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

That's all nice and all, but my nearest GW store is 600km away, in another country.

And honestly the only people who should be unhappy with this are the bloody scalpers.

In a world where significant amounts of 'exclusive' stuff go straight to scalpers and recasting exists as an ongoing problem opening up legitimate ways people that can't go to events can purchase these is a sound decision. Permanent exclusivity does nothing but line the pockets of third parties.

Kinda disappointed these aren't coming back in metal, but in Finecast instead. Might've picked up four of them in metal, but won't pick up any in Finecast.

Mad Dok's loot group was how I avoided scalping, but that's still not a guarantee you'll get the model. It is nice, though I wonder if it will only be warhammer world exclusive models (or store anniversary models), or if they'll re-release models that were widely available online, albeit only for a week (like the ghoul king)

Of course you already can get champion so this is hardly unfair.

Now if it was model that had specific rule but no commonly available model would be different. But here no game advantage to be gained.

I’m all for it.

Even with the Loot Group, those with a little spare cash can grab a few, so those who might be facing a tight financial month don’t entirely miss out.

Granted not talking more than 5, but still a handy resource.

And yes. Catachan Col would be lovely.

Mighty tempted by the primaris company champ. I know it's just a primaris marine with a sword, but it'll fit nicely into some bladeguard or van vets if you slapped a jump pack on him.

Two-handed sword poses on Space Marines are always worth picking up when they appear. There's a lot one could do with the champion figure, it's a good'un.

Thinking of grabbing that bearded Scout Sgt (Tellion, was it?), its a nice piece from that era when Scouts looked their best IMHO (talking about the metal scouts). Hope there isn't too much Ultrasmurf iconography to file off..

I'd grab that Dark Angel company master if the price was right. It won't be right though. It'll be a fething horrific price.

Telion was a 5th edition sculpt where as the metal scouts were 3rd ed, with the plastic kits being 4th ed.

Re: exclusivity, there have been a ton of times, going back at least to when I started in 3rd, when previously exclusive models have eventually gotten more general releases, either through mail order or sets. It's not even remotely new, and the scarcity (certainly since plastic) is similarly artificial.

I'm all for killing exclusives, but the likely price tag and the 'up to 180 days' is killing my interest.

Still, there were quite a few things (like a cryptek model with gear that wasn't available any other way, iirc) that were locked behind stupid events and should just be inventory.

180 days is just their general statement for anything that isn't main-line-production. Sometimes you will get things way sooner.

It's just GW covering themselves because they don't have a mountain of those models printed up and they don't have infinite moulds ot just pump out masses of them; nor infinite slots on the machines. So they have to phase in production batches which adds to the time; even more so if you're overseas and it has to be shippeed out
