I think they need to pick a lane.

Either go full crazy, waving cables, lighting arcs. Make it look like something similar to the Eldar Wapr Spider PL. Warp energy everywhere.

Or clip it back to a simple harness.

These launch box models are making me dream even more of playing 2nd edition with modern models.

But I fear the community up for that is vanishingly small. The determined retro-heads want the full aesthetic, at least judging by YouTube and forums.

In person, most people are far more open to whatever then you see online. While they might prefer a game that’s [i]just right[/] they will settle for something close with a decent opponent.

Meeting someone halfway by playing their rules, albeit with modern models should be fine for most. But it as always depends on the people involved.

Good take, I think this is it for me.

I wonder if there will be a standalone version as well or just the starter character model wyrdboy.

The Weirdboy is another example of there being just too much going on, making a model look cluttered.

It needs the lightning bolt and cables from the shoulders removing, the tactical rock mostly removing, and the teeth removing (more of a narrative change).

My concern is that he's probably huge, when he should be a WeirdBOY.

I think it looks great myself. Nice and odd looking. Different paint jobs will really make that sing. Some great opportunities for OSL.

I can only hope for a Warphead to be released at some point, in the traditional "being fired like a kannon by the Minderz" pose.

Warp heads don’t have Minderz! Only Weirdboyz. The Weirdboyz don’t much like using their powers, hence the Minderz.

Depends. In 4e the Warphead was just a Weirdboy upgrade. Same in 8e where it is a pre-battle stratagem to make a Weirdboy able to cast twice all game. I do not think Warpheads have been mentioned since?

I thought they ended up ditching Weirdboyz and just went with Warp ‘Eadz?

No. Weirdboyz are in the 9e codex, while the only mention of Warphead is in the fluff text of a Crusade Relic they can take.

The exact same case is in 10e, with I suppose the exception that they changed the Crusade Relic to also be available to a Wurrboy.

The only reference I can find to Warpheads as something truly different and distinct is an army list and fluff book from 1991 called Freebooterz.

They already don't.

But they can only be used on a unit that is Visible to the spotter, so it has the same requirements as shooting (though does not need to target the same thing as what they then shoot).

Warpheads are an archetype in the Crucible of Champions.

Pretty cool model, its funny and has a lot of interesting points to paint, like that spark will be great for OSL.
The only thing that could be improved is the orientation of his left arm hand holding the staff, would be nicer the other way around.

I was wandering about the warhammer site, and I noticed I am getting captchas for doing so which I never used to.

Did GW tighten the site up lately, or something? I wasn't spamming the site or anything, just meandering the various sections checking out a few things.

It's been doing that for a long while (many months). Basically if you ping enough times (Which is super easy if you view all the models from an army) it hits you with Captchas.

It's not just GW either; a lot of hosts are a LOT more hot on it. It's mostly because of AI on two fronts

1) AI lets spammers spam even more

2) AI people looking for data to trawl - same thing that hits Dakka every so often now with a wave of bots.

Basically sites in general have had to tighten up and that meas more times real humans get caught up

Did anyone talk about Yarrick's new rules?

The description of the Weirdboy avoids gendered pronouns. "lightning crackles from its brain", "the skull-topped staff in their hands" Orks are genderless asexually-reproducing fungus people, so I guess it does make sense.
