Thanks for posting! Good to see an initial positive review, and it will be interesting when we start getting some more in-depth analysis and battle reports posted on YouTube. I do like the sound of simplification and key words used for the new Rift stuff, which sounds similar to OnePageRules mechanics (which work very well).

My FLGS has started taking pre-orders, hopefully it will not be long until the game starts to arrive.

Great review. But what of Reactions? are those still present in the newest K47?

Haven't heard anything about reactions yet, i'd assume it's similar if not the same as Bolt Action v3.

My starter box from Warlord Games showed up in the mail today, way earlier than I had expected. Everything in the box looks good so far. The linebacker comes with an MDF base, no base for the axis spider walker though. I am not too sure how to start building and outfitting the units, as it may be another week before the PDF army lists with points costs are put online.

The army lists for all five factions are now uploaded here:

The British are getting a mk II version of their automated infantry. The Soviet DM 40 Molot might be new, I think the two legged Cossack was renamed to Kazak light walker.

I like Japan's faction abilities. They are trixy and fluffy and fun. I primarily play Axis, but am not at all discouraged to get my Rising Sun on the table.

Historically, yes, but in K47 it seems that Nazi Germany has been rebranded to Axis because apparently having clear historical references in a WW2 Weird War setting made marketing sad, to the point that they replaced historical iconography with something that looks AI made.
I hope they never touch Hellboy or play Wolfenstein. It might give them conniptions.

But yeah, Empire of Japan seems pretty cool. Very mobile army with a focus on ambushes. I think that's kind of like how they fought historically?

I am not a German citizen, so perhaps one of them can explain better, but I do know that Germany has very strict laws governing the depiction of Nazi symbology. So, for example, including a picture of a toy soldier with a swastika armband may literally make selling the book in Germany illegal, which, in fairness, may indeed "make marketing sad", but maybe also some German customers who are hoping to play the game.

The army list PDF refer to the Germans as being the Neu Republik. I don't mind the new iconography, I put some of the new decals on my Vogelspinne and it looks fine. I think the new red/white/black iconography looks good on stuff painted in the nearly black german grey or lighter shades of grey. The whole Wolfenstein aesthetic feels more like an extension of the early war jackboots sort of look, instead of late war camo. And I think K47 feels sort of similar. The red stylized eagle looking thing looks pretty sharp on a dark grey tank or mech.

I can't remember the exact date but Warlord Games will have an open day/launch day for K47 in a week or two. Most likely we will see some reveals for future minis.

I understand that it is complicated. Not-C iconography in a historical book would be fine, but on a way cool fictional giant robot might not be.

Plus these days we do have worry about search engine optimization, posts being flagged etc. Hence my use of Not-Cs.

And most importantly while the Not-Cs are dead and buried, their iconography is still used by modern hate groups. We saw this 10+ years ago in the Captain America movie and it will be an issue for decades to come alas.

Apparently, even in Wolfenstein The New Order the Nazis are renamed to "the Regime". Which I find more egregious than just removing swastikas.
So yeah, probably because of the German market and their heavy handed censorship laws. Like that time they made everyone in Command and Conquer Generals into robots.
I have to admit though, it is really funny to see German Censorship law remove Nazis from a game wherein you kill Nazis. Because of the implication.

As I understand it, in German Law you're allowed to show references to Nazi Germany in art, movies and books. But not toys, which is what video games and miniatures would be classified under.
So Inglourious Bastards? Probably fine uncensored. Wolfenstein, which is basically Inglourious Bastards but video game form? Probably not fine.

That's weird. They are no longer a dictatorship then?
You'd think New Republic would be more of a Weimar sort of thing.

I'm hardly an expert, but I believe the rule of thumb is you're probably okay to use Nazi symbols in historical context and art. The problem with the latter is, as always, who gets to decide what art is.

The classic example you want to remember in this context is Indiana Jones. The movies showed Nazi flags just fine because movies are art. The old adventure video games did not because at least at the time video games were not art. Exact same subject matter and context, but the difference in medium is all it takes for something to get censored.

Go us, I guess...

Censorship has become partially more relaxed since, but Nazi symbols are still covered by criminal law. It's understandable Warlord doesn't want to take any chances, even if their approach disagrees with me.

Best guess is since the theme is secret society guys running the show now, and the hallmark of a secret society is that it works in the background, the whole republic thing is meant as a propaganda tool rather than an actual return to democratic rule.

What bothers me is that they got rid of all Nazis. Like, couldn't they have at least spared the Grammar Nazis™? It would have been nice if the grüne Gewölbe had consulted someone who has more than passing familiarity with German morphology before they named their neue Republik.

Did they mention if these are going to be new plastic sculpts or are they still using the old resin/metal models?

These new sculpts are a mix of plastic/resin. Metal is going to be gradually phased out. I think the pictured walkers/mechs are all plastic, platoon commanders are all resin. Tanks like the T34 ZP are plastic with a resin turret.

These look great. Especially like the new britbots. Fingers crossed that they don’t go stupid with prices. Metal 3 pack of bear guys was $60. Hoping they will be a little more reasonable but not holding my breath

Those Ursus are insane looking, and the Gul are fittingly terrifying. Warlord knocking it out of the park with these sculpts.

Thanks! Any word on the infantry squads?
I can see uses for those Japanese squads in a few scifi games if they're in plastic.

Not 100% sure about the Japanese infantry but I think the Ghost attack warriors are plastic and the samurai looking heavy armored ones are resin.

The Ursus bears are all resin though. Based on what i'm seeing i'm probably going with Soviets in the long term after building out my Axis half of the 2 player starter. I didn't think at all that they'd redo the T 34/ZP, and had just spent a bunch of time building and painting the old one. Shame on me for being impatient, I guess i'm gonna end up with two now.

Edit: actually turns out the Ghost warriors are resin, overall it looks like the remaining 3 factions are getting less plastic with their initial releases.

The Mk 1 version in the photo is resin, the mk II are plastic with two cannon weapon options.

Edit: actually turns out they're both in resin, but it's likely they will get a plastic kit later on.

I like the Japanese forces. Especially the Scorpion tank.
But then again, I am a Wasteland fan.
I want to paint it white. Maybe with Red Trim for that gundam aesthetic.

If I ever get around to K47, I'll probably use two different paintschemes for my forces; one historical and one more open.

Next wave of pre orders is up with the three other faction starters releasing in november. It actually looks like they are doing a lot of resin for these. Which is a bit surprising and disappointing. But I think doing stuff in resin allows them to release stuff quicker, instead of having Japanese/Soviet/British players waiting for months on end for anything new.

https://us.warlordgames.com/collections/konflikt-47/0925

The cheaper introductory set is a nice surprise.

Ah that's a shame that there's so much resin in the other faction starters. Hopefully it's just a way to get product on shelves quickly like you said, and they'll move to plastic someday.

Hmmm, I could buy a Tau combat patrol for $8 less than the Empire of Japan army deal, glue some sashimonos to their backs and call them the Japanese army.
