Alright, I've got the inkling that some folks around here don't like Jared Leto or the movies he's been in.
But, hear me out... I bet you that there are some movies with Jared Leto that you actually enjoy watching:
Fight Club
The Thin Red Line
Dallas Buyers Club
Lord of War
Requiem for a Dream
Panic Room
American Psycho
Blade Runner 2049
Huh? I bet you didn't think there were going to be that many, did you?
So, while we are all waiting for the inevitable nightmare that his appearance as Skeletor in Masters of the Universe might be, just remember. Just because Jared Leto is in it, doesn't mean the rest of the movie is going to suck...
Unless it's Morbius.
Spoiler:
Because Jared Leto's a Vampire... and the movie was atrocious - sucks... get it?

He’s not central to Fight Club. And I can watch that scene in American Psycho and laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh.
He’s a hack. He’s talentless. Even his band sucks.
He’s not a leading man. Every attempt to make him so has crashed and burned like a drunk driver stacking their Tesla Truck.
He’s a disaster. And I genuinely cannot fathom how he keeps getting roles.

I've seen three of those movies, liked one of them, and had no idea Leto was in it, so liking the movie would seem to be somewhat independent of his involvement, really.
Easy E wrote: There is no denying that he CAN act, and does so better than a few other folks.
Does he always deliver a performance that resonates with the audience? No.
However, Dallas Buyer's Club is a tour de force from both leads.
How much of that is McConeahey (sp?) carrying him along? Because that due is a fething artist and generally lifts average to above average simply by existing. Personally I think it's telling that the only things he's ever been acknowledged to be decent is has a stellar lead beside or in front of him.
Best Painted (2015 Adepticon 40k Champs)
They Shall Know Fear - Adepticon 40k TT Champion (2012 & 2013) & 40k TT Best Sport (2014), 40k TT Best Tactician (2015 & 2016)
Maybe it is an algorithm thing. We all know him, we all mention him, maybe that convinces film bosses he has name recognition that will be good for their film? He might reinforce that by being cheap, so from a computer perspective he looks good?

As for the movies listed, many of them became classics DESPITE Leto being in them, not because he was in them.

"The larger point though, is that as players, we have more control over what the game looks and feels like than most of us are willing to use in order to solve our own problems"
I was always ambivalent about him until I heard about his "method acting" antics in the first Suicide Squad, and now he's an immediate hype killer for me. Had that movie and his Joker portrayal not sucked so much ass, I might not feel so strongly about him. I always knew him as "Hey that's the dude from the show my sister liked years ago" (My So-Called Life).
"Sometimes the only victory possible is to keep your opponent from winning." - The Emperor, from The Outcast Dead.
"Tell your gods we are coming for them, and that their realms will burn as ours did." -Thostos Bladestorm
I didn't have a problem with him in either Suicide Squad nor Blade Runner 2049 and instead had issues with the films overall than anything to do with him specifically. Not much to go on but he seems alright in the new Tron trailer...
Skeletor is a problem for me. If going the reimaging route of the 1987 film, or the early 00s series, then I can accept a new take on the character. I took the new She-Ra for what it was and on its own terms it was good. But as a faithful continuation of the legendary-but-cheesy cartoon from the early 80s, then Alan Oppenheimer's voice - and the character himself - was the reason to watch that show even into adult hood...
Spoiler:
...and this guy just wasn't there. We got Joker instead. Even the Sorceress - sorely disappointed - blasted him when he falsely claimed to be Skeletor.
But getting back to Jared...unless he can do a better job of capturing classic Skeletor, then we're heading towards the abyss!
There's nothing wrong with his acting outside of him trying too hard and maybe missing the mark at times like in Bladerunner 2049.
He's weird and creepy because of his pseudo cult and general personality.
The only way we can ever solve anything is to look in the mirror and find no enemy
Adventure films in general are very tricky- to get that right mix of comedy, some sort of suspense or stakes, and plausible pseudo historical facts while above all being fun is not easy. But when it's done right, it's amazing, like The Mummy, Indiana Jones, or Muppet Treasure Island.
Leto's career is rather fascinating. He's attached to so many high profile projects early on, and it's as if the powers that be just keep trying to see if he really is capable of carrying a film, and will not take no for an answer. He's on a long, slow slide, until he starts hitting Morbius II,Suicide Squad:Origins The Joker and other direct to DVD classics.

But sometimes crummy acting becomes its own monster and attracts a fanbase: [See. Nic Cage]
BorderCountess wrote: Just because you're doing something right doesn't necessarily mean you know what you're doing...
Nicholas Cage isn’t a crummy actor, though. He’s a talented actor who often chooses not to act in accordance with modern expectations. When he’s in a movie like Pig, he’ll give a traditionally great performance. When he’s in a terrible movie like Wicker Man he’ll give a performance that elevates the film from forgettable trash to a collection of must-watch meme clips.
Automatically Appended Next Post: For example, we’ve seen Cage play crazy and violent when tearing down mooks for information. But watch how he plays a bloody and beaten chef who walks into a gourmet restaurant looking for information and just destroys the head chef:

Yeah, he’s one of those actors who “knows what movie he’s in” or “understood the assignment”. They are a rare few who can elevate a mediocre movie or walk away from a stinking trash fire without embarrassing themselves, like Gina Gershom in Showgirls or Ian McKellan in Cats.
Easy E wrote: Oh! Gina Gershon is another actress I would watch in just about anything.... and yes, I did see Borderlands in the cinema. Thanks for asking!
I am also getting there with Ralph Finnes, but a lot of his stuff never even sees a screen in my area.
Would you watch a Gina Gershon and Jared Leto movie?
BorderCountess wrote: Just because you're doing something right doesn't necessarily mean you know what you're doing...
Personally, it would be great to see a Jared film that has the compilation of all the most relevant Jared's we could think of, think of it as the League of Extraordinary Jareds.
We got:
Jared Leto
Jared Fogle (yes, the pedo from Subway)
Jared Drake Bell (had no idea that was his first name)
Jared Harris
I'm sure there's other Jareds we can add.
That or a Nutty Professor type movie where Jared Leto plays all the characters in the film.
I think either one would be enough to leave Mad Dok Grotsnik hospitalized after he's forced to watch more than 30 minutes of this cinematic masterpiece.
