The last one came out during the pandemic. Kind of forgettable but successful enough.

OK I’m in.

Karl Urban has been in some ropey films, but he himself has never contributed to a Bad Film, such is his screen presence and sheer charisma.

Also, they’re clearly doing a nod and a wink to MK’s origins as a Jean Claude Van Damme lead beat ‘em up.

First one was passable(for a video game adaptation movie).

I can't remember if Kano died in the first one (not that it matters in the MK universe), but he was awesome. The spam leg sweep scene involving him was great.

I'll give this one a view or two.

He's listed on the Wikipedia page for the new film, still played by Josh Lawson, even though he did die in the first film.

I have no urge to watch the 2021 film, but the trailer sold me on this one.

Okay I barely remember the first one... with the MMA fighter that wasn't from the games, but had a family and was somehow related to Samurai Scorpion.

They certainly took their time to crank out a sequel.

Yes. I want my sequels to be released year after year like those high quality Hobbitt films.

This one wasn't financed by WB right away, then got delayed by the WB implosion and then again by the SAG-AFTRA strike.

I saw MK 2021 in the theatre and it was completely forgettable with possible exception of Scorpion's storyline. I do not remember any of the other characters even being in it until I saw the trailer again.

If my kid can go see MK2 with me, we will go see it.

Looks like Johnny Cage is going to be the main character of the film.

Looks fun.

Glad they ditched the metal body guy from the first one, unless he's in there and I missed him.(NVM, seems he's listed in the cast on the wiki page)

Shao Khan probably kills him, making room for Cage to show up.

I think that is him at about 1:09.

The theory that seems to be floating around is that he is going to be killed off at the beginning somehow, which is why Raiden and freinds go looking for a replacement.

I do appreciate that they're doing Noob Saibot proper after the first film. Not sure the narrative context of that rematch though, not that it really matters.

I'm not sure how you do bumbling idiot saves the world with Mortal Kombat. I guess they could go lore accurate and bad end this one, but I'm not all that invested enough to worry about it. Kind of sad Cage is aware he's in over his head. Part of the appeal of the original was just that he absolutely believes his own hype.

You already got your sequel... where Johnny Cage dies 3 minutes in... and they somehow couldn't afford to bring back Christopher Lambert as Raiden.

It wasn't that bad... remember when Jax rips his own metal arms off to get stronger? That was good... right?

Right?

It wasn't that they couldn't afford him. He thought the script was terrible and turned it down. And he wasn't wrong.

It was kind of funny that they put so much effort into making the characters all look right, and so little effort into making an actual movie anyone would want to watch.

Fantastic soundtrack, though.
