what races are you considering?
Im considering, Orks, Tau, chaos, and with a slim slim chance..sm or IG
I already have sm and ork models, but i dunno, Tau and chaos just really appeal to me, Tau shooting just seems too awsome to pass.

What one do you like the looks of the most. Usually that's how people pick their first army. Then go look around at tactics and stuff about that army and decide if you really want them or not.

Well, this might just be me, but (being an IG and Tau player myself) it seems that the IG can bring a lot more firepower to bear than the Tau. This is because, though the Tau have quality  , IG has quantity (and a lot of it) . The Tau focus more on mobile  firepower, relying heavily on transports and such, while the Imperial Guard is most often best as static. I think the choice is simply if you want your force to be mobile or static. (This being said, the IG can be mobile and the Tau can be static, but these are not their strong points).

Most people I know stick with orks once they've tried them, because the modeling possibilities are endless, no matter what your skill level!
