Hey, this may sound strange and it's 'Nerd' related but not miniature related, I was given one of the early large gb PS3's and it appeared to get the yellow light of death and stop working, I can't seem to bring myself to throw it away! can anyone use it for parts or anything? I'm happy to send it to whoever needs it but it may be a couple of weeks as i've been pushed back at least 2 weeks on all my postage due to a little hospital trip and subsequent lack of funds :-( if it can't be salvaged let me know and i'll just chuck it in the rubbish :-)

cheers dudes!

Yanno, you could probably get it fixed for less then the shipping to someones house. There is usually 3 problems with it when those crash like that.
1. A simple software crash. Think like when your PC just stops working for no reason and needs a reinstall.
2. A mechanical part that fails.
3. Something catastrophic

1 and 2 are usually pretty cheap fixes.
3 is obviously just a throw away.

9 times out of 10 its either 1 or 2 and should be a cheap fix. Theres a guy around here that fixes 1 and 2 for the price of the part broken if its #2 +30 bucks. So if its a software problem its only a $30 fix

Oh my lord! sorry Casey! yes, yes of course i can tutor you in the ways or Marble-Fu

Firstly I painted the eagle dheneb stone/bleached bone and let it dry, then I got a sort brush and just painted pure water over the whole lot so when I washed with gryphone sepia (if i recall correctly) lightly it left a watercolour effect as a base for the veins, next I made slightly darker passes in roughly diagonal lines and then switched to a finer brush and started painting the veins making them darker in places, once dry I washed the whole thing again with a light watered down gryphone wash making it darker at the edges and then when it was dry again I got some very watered bleached bone and added some random passes to tone down the marble and make it appear like some of the veins are deeper, then finally a coat or 2 of gloss varnish

I can link you the tutes i used for inspiration if you wish? but if you check out the pics of it when you attempt it you shouldn't go wrong! or i can but the honored imperium set and do a step by step on the ruined eagle in the set?

Thank you very much for writing that up! I'm most likely be going to use a marble finish on my Marines and their tanks but i was going in blind until now! Haha, no need to buy a kit just to do a tutorial for little old me, just keep your great updates flooding in.

One question: When you apply the Gryphonne Sepia onto the slightly wet surface do you put it on in dabs and let it run or just paint it all over lightly and let it clump together a bit?

Thanks again!

Maybe had a chance to add some spent shell casings and sandbags to my village! yep, looks like i did!

I used secret weapon miniatures spent shells and some small resin sandbags from pegasus hobbies, they work well but are a fraction small for my liking , never the less they are great for scattering around ruins and emplacements etc.

Next I will begin painting the cracked and ruined edges of the buildings to show exposed bricks/stone or whatever they used to make them as well as blacken a few of the posters again and add bullet marks!

Fun times!

No problem my friend! you get about 100 in a bag! heaps to use in various things! http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PACK-100-individual-SANDBAGS-painted-Wargames-scenery-terrain-28mm-/400336983959?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item5d35f19797

and thanks nOt_u as long as they don't look too far out of proportion that's a good thing! I should've made them a tad higher though i think?

Casey, found an old base I was building for one of my buildings and i'll do you a step by step tomorrow and post it up on my blog for you to check out, any questions or specific things you want me to focus on for you?

Marble-Fu comes to Nerd town! I re visited my marble technique and had an excuse to attempt a better version of it! and i believe it worked quite well! luckily I took pics as i went (a lot of pics) and have compiled them into a step by step of how i went about doing it, I feel it looks better than my first attempt on the shrine but I won't be re doing that terrain as i still think it holds up well enough

anyway here's how i began.....

First and most importantly you need to brew yourself up a mug of hot black coffee! then get your tools ready, a soft watercolour brush, clean water and the first ink.

here's the test subject, primed white as a base, and brushed all over with clean water to help the ink flow over it smoothly.

water the sepia down a bit and brush over the board in roughly diagonal lines a bit hap hazard still keeping the shade light, then add a small amount more of sepia and follow the lines you just did making it darker on some edges, the ink should still be translucent and fade well into each other.

now i start to work with pure sepia and add dots in the veins where they branch off from one another and just blend them into the previous step.

now we need to darken the marble veins by using a small amount of snakebite leather mixed with sepia this is where the fun starts! make your lines thin and random like lightning bolts, keep the veins long and not too busy with branches etc. this is where i went wrong last time, working on such small scales I wasn't seeing the whole model from a distance, this time i ran the veins over a few tiles and faded them off better.

now a teeny tiny amount of black with the mix, again thin lines focusing on the deeper veins and thin lines. then a teeny bit more black and just did the joins.

now with some watered down bleached bone I washed the whole thing again to soften the effect. make sure it's dry thoroughly first

now it's finished all bar the gloss coat, let it dry and it looks like the first pic, then I used 'Ardcoat to gloss it

and now some 'Cinematic' shots of it with the building

And ho! what's this? is it.....?..... no, it can't be!......... can it?.......yes, why i think it is!...... some actual FleshEaters painting! I had to do something or i'd be afraid i'd lose my mojo for good! so it's tank time! first pic is a couple of stages then the others are full highlight of the armour on the tank and am just about to wash it with ink

and the gunners bare head I started, not much actual skin to shade though but he'll be sweet I hope!

Phew, that's today done! love to see what you all think so far! remember, keep your brush moist people!

That's a major update Nerdo. Great tutorial. I've struggled with marble in the past myself so I really appreciate the detail of your approach. That tank is looking spectacular. Amazing combo of techniques on it. How are your doing your highlighting? I love the way it fades off the corners.

Thanks guys it means a lot to me that someone's going to try my method I hope it works well for you! I can wait until whenever you get a chance but i demand a pictorial update when you do! I'd like to experiment with other colours now to see what happens!

and master Gits, I think i have finally secured my 'style' now, I know how to approach any model or colour in my own unique way which is really nice because I used to HATE painting tanks or large models! now after today I'm actually excited about finishing all my vehicles! to do my highlights I did it the same way as my marines, same colours and method just a little tweaking, I based with red then airbrushed the shade on the hull, then blood red along the edges on all the top parts then mixed in orange and then vomit brown up to pure brown but just made the lines shorter each time along so the last highlight is just on the sharp edges if that makes sense? then i just washed the lot with crimson to tie it together if you or anyone else wants me to do a step by step next tank i will happily oblige it's easy as i only use 3 colours and a wash!

So, what's everyone else been painting? hopefully i'll finish the tank tomorrow and bust out a hammernator just for kicks!

Looks like i got some serious painting to do on those boys! wish i could use them in a game one day! at least this way when i finally get a chance to learn and play I can pick and choose and give them some personality to each one as i go!

Thanks Mr Beard ;-) the fading was a happy accident from when i did my Landraider and i like the look which meant i didn't have to highlight every single panel and edge, and it still fits the look of my force! I still have a bunch of vehicles to finish! and tomorrow I hope to finish 3 land speeders for show!

My oldest brother has been playing Space Marines for like.....16 years? Maybe more. Anywho, yea hes got a terminator problem as well. Which I think is hilarious because Ive only ever played against 10 once, and he only really uses them 1 squad at a time Yet he has like 30 terminators

Great look Nerd! You should try future floor wax sometime, it gives a nice gloss coat so the inks flow into the recesses too, that way you don't have to be in a hurry before the wayer dries. And I love the marbling too.

Same "problem" here mate : http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/406869.page
I solved that "problem" by playing them as Deathwing, using the Dark Angels codex. Pretty fun to play.

I definitely like the way you paint your marble, I think I have to try this someday.
The bones colour ornaments on the predator look damn good too. The pred himself looks good by the way, I would just add some smaller chipping besides the big ones you did, to have a more natural weathering.
