Thought I'd share some work in progress picts of my Snikrot.

Last week I got some more work done on Snikrot. I was exited about painting him, as I think it's about the best model released by Games Workshop. I painted the backpack seperatly.
The skin was done with a layer of Catachan Green over a black basecoat. Next a wash of Devlan Mud was applied. This was then drybrushed Camo Green and highlighed with Rotting Flesh and Bleached Bone. Two washes of Gryphonne Sepia were used as a finish.

I wanted Snikrot to look like a really hardened soldier with a strong military air about him. To this end I decided to do a camouflage pattern on his pants. I chose not to go with junglepattern camo as I think it does not contrast enough with the green skin. Instead, I opted for a urban pattern. The first layer was Regal Blue over a black undercoat followed by a drybrush of Enchanted Blue. This was then washed with Devlan Mud. Next up, stripes of Bleached Bone were painted in random patterns on his pants. The same was done in Chaos Black. This was then highlighted with a thin drybrushing of Codex Grey. The stitches where painted with Rotting Flesh. A wash of Sepia Gryphonne was used as a finish.

After finishing the pants I started work on the skullthropys Snikrot carries. I started of with a layer of Scorched Brown over black undercoat. This was then drybrushed with a layer of Bestial Brown and Bubonic Brown. After this a wash of Devlan Mud was applied. Next a highlight of Bubonic Brown mixed with Bleached Bone was painted on. I kept adding Bleched Bone to the mix until there was nearly no brown left in it. Then I again washed the skulls with Devlan Mud. Next will be a light highlight of Bleached Bone and a little Skull White.

And a sneak peak at the WIP backpack...

I didn't get as much work done as I wished on Snikrot these last few days. I went to Pinkpop, a very big music festival near the town I live. However, I succeeded in finishing the backpack and building a lightbox to improve the quality of my pictures.

I wanted to use a lot of colors on the backpack as I wanted it to look heavily used and worn. I the end I decided the kit and stitches would be done in browns, while the pricipal pack would become black. I started with Bolgun Metal over a black basecoat. All the pieces that would become brown were painted Scorched Brown at this stage. The rope was painted with Camo Green. The entire backpack was then given a wash of Devlan Mud. The big straps holding the backpack in place were then lightly highlighted using Vermin Brown followed by Rotting Flesh. The belts were finished off with 2 coats of Devlan Mud. The stitches were drybrushed with Bestial Brown followed by Bubonic Brown. A final highlight of Bleached Bone was then applied, followed by a wash of Devlan Mud.

The scabbard strapped to the backpack's side was painted Charadon Granite. The metal parts were painted Boltgun Metal, while the straps were painted Scorched Brown and then painted in the same way as the big straps on top. The little glyph in the center was painted with Scab Red followed by a Blood Red highlight. Some weathering was created using Chaos Black, Boltgun Metal and some Devlan Mud wash. The blades handle was painted Tin Bitz and also washed with Devlan Mud. The rope was painted by drybrushing Bubonic Brown over Camo Green. Next a layer each of Rotting Flesh and Bleached Bone was applied. This was then washed with Devlan Mud and Gryphonne Sepia.

Finally the grenades were painted with a baselayer of Dark Angels Green. This was then drybrushed with Catachan Green. Over this coat I painted a jungle camo scheme using Bestial Brown and Chaos Black. The 'nades were then washed with Devlan Mud. Next the camo areas were lightly highlighted with Bleached Bone and then given a final wash of Gryphonne Sepia. I think the camoschemes worked out really well so far and I think I'll try to use it to tie my Ork army together. I guess I'll be playing Blood Axes then.

After the backpack I started on Snikrot's blades. I decided I would do some orky dag- and checkpatterns. The right blade features checks, while the left (sorry for the pic, it's not to clear) has been 'dagged'. The dags and checks were painted by applying a layer of Chaos Black over the spine of the blades. Next, the pattern was painted on with Codex Grey. This was then highlighted with Rotting Flesh, Bleached Bone and Skull White. As a finish, both a layer of Devlan Mud and Gryphonne Sepia were applied.

I painted Snikrot's visor Chaos Black as I wanted to incorporate a bit of a 'Black Ops'-feel into the model. I envisioned his visor kitted out with a myriad of lenses, incorporating night-vision, heat signatures and that kinda stuff. To visualize this on the model I used several bright colors to paint the lenses in his mask. It does need some weathering still, though.

Well, feedback is welcome as always. Let's hope the next update sees this baby finished.

I finnally completed Snikrot, Boss of Da Red Skull Kommandos. So without further delay:

The last fase of painting wasn't anything special. I picked out buckles and the like in Boltgun Metal, and any remaining straps in Scorched Brown. The shoes were painted with a check- and dagdesign similar to the blades. The ear thropys Snikrot is wearing around his neck were painted with a coat of Dwarf Flesh, then washed with Red Ink and Devlan Mud and then highlighted with Elf Flesh.

The inside of Snikrots own ears was painted with Dwarf Flesh, Devlan Mud, Elf Flesh, Rotting Flesh and Gryphonne Sepia. Some weathering was applied to armour and stikkbombs. I did the weathering by painted some Vermin Brown, then drybrushing this with Boltgun Metal and Mithril Silver, followed by a wash of Devlan Mud to take the sheen off. I also painted some killmarkings on the inside of his right choppa, keeping in theme with Snikrots thropytaking thing.

And finally the base was done by glueing Citadel Sand onto it. This was then painted Chaos Black and drybrushed with Codex Grey followed by a equal parts mix of Codex Grey and Rotting Flesh. The entire base was then washed with Devlan Mud. The rim was painted Scorched Brown and the very last step consisted of glueing some Citadel Static Grass onto the base.
The entire model was then given 3 coats of Purity Seal varnish (satin finish).

Well, there you have it. Hope you like the model !!

Yep, I'm saving this thread for when I get my Snikrot (and any self-respecting painter should get him, it's a great model). Unbelievable job, good luck to you.

When you start painting him please post pics and send me the link. I'd very much like to see it.
Also check out my blog, the painting guide is published there as well.
