Hello Everyone,

I have been looking in the gallery and online and have seen a few people modeling relic blades on there space marines. My questions is where are they coming from? Are relic blades included in a newer kit or taken from another race? If not is there a tutorial on how create a relic blade?

Thanks!

You just kinda say that its a Relic Blade. All a Relic Blade is is a spruced up Power Weapon anyway. Same thing with Artificer Armor, Daemon Weapons, etc.

I would like to have something that anyone I would play against could just look at the model and realize that the model has a relic blade. An example I found http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/gallery-viewimage.jsp?i=5845&w=800 is a model converted as Vulkan He'stan.

I also wouldn't mind eventually creating my own conversion of Vulkan He'stan and would like to make him as accurate as possible. Every tutorial I have found on Vulkan never goes into any detail where the relic blade comes from.

That specific one came from Gray Knights. ( is that what you were asking? )

Play-doh for sure.

Seriously tho, another idea is to look at some GIjoes and other type of action figures. Those come with some pretty cool swords sometimes, and would definitely stick out in an army.

Check out my 3D Insignia tutorial. You can use the same technique to make blades out of polymer bake clay. Just draw out the outline of the blade you want, cut, bake, and sand, file, or dremel the sharp edges.

And then cut yourself on them because you aren't used to insanely sharp sprues like us Chaos players.

I found that the Nemesis Force Sword from the old OOP GK's works just excellent for a relic blade (had to scour ebay for them). I am using the CPT from the Black Reach box as my Chapter Master and had a buddy pin the sword in his hand instead of the blocky looking sword that's standard.

For my relic blade I just cut a very short strip of plasticard to shape, filed the edge on both sides to make a cutting edge, chopped the blade off a chainsword and glued the new blade in place. If this attachment works (I'm terrible with HTML so not gonna try posting it in the body of this comment) you should be able to see the results.
*Edit* I also laid a thin piece of greenstuff on the blade to make a "power" cable.

Technically a Relic blade is a hand and a half, or two handed power weapon, so extending the length of the blade and handle should work just fine.

The one in the middle would be a standard power weapon

That is really sweet. If you wouldn't have told me I would have never guessed it was made from plasticcard.

also made this one but it's nowhere near as good. I just wanted to see what the little wings on the side of the winged skull that comes in the predator kit would look like as quillions on a blade. Still, it shows you can use plasticard to make just about any shaped sword you want.
