A little something i threw together a couple of years ago. i posted them way back when.
anyway, would these pass muster for you kind folks? do they look Melta enough, or no?
I'm adding 1 more Melta Vet squad. they have a "different" look that i think might fit Vets.

Those a so cool and i doubt if somebody saw them they would doubt what it was.

The melta barrel is probably the most recognisable part of them so as long as that's there then I don't think anyone would question what they are.

I think they look fine, but you could also fiddle a bit more and get closer to the normal melta aesthetic. I used slightly different parts but came up with something similar:

I dont think that flinty's melta looks melty enough but i would play against it if you had all them in an army.

Agree 100%. The Imperium is a big place, not everything is going to look exactly the same from system to system but there is always a common thread that link most IG weapons together. The barrel is what defines the weapon. You're all set and those are some cool conversions.

Looks good, OP. But I think it would look better with a horizontal fuel tank. Vertical/angled always screams "flamer" to me.

Pretty good conversion there,I'd add some under slung guitar string to represent the "standard" cable on a melta,but other than that...it looks very good.

I think it's good enough. Just point them out before the game starts and you shouldn't have any issues. Tell them it's a different pattern from planet "x".

I'm stealing this idea as I my friend got me 3 orders of those 5 metal melta gun bitz from GW for my IG army and try to convert them as been a pain in my arse. Just cutting off the melta ends and adding them to a flamer base is going to save me a head ache.

yep, nothing wrong with that....everyone can identify the nozzle/barrel of the gun, thats all that matters!

Looked like a melta to me. I agree though, the fuel canister hanging like that just screams flamer.

True. but the hose going to the double tanks screams it louder, imho. i was originally going to put a spare can on the troopers belt.

The only thing that matters is that you have the special meta barrel definetly applies to WYSIWYG

the only thing i'd do is cut the tank from the bottom off, cut it in half, and then glue it to the side of the gun to look more like a melta. the barrel is what truley matters but the meltabombesque cannister on the bottom screams flamer.

Nice I may try the first one when I finally get to work on my Stormtroopers.

I don't think there's anything wrong with those. They look like perfectly recognizable meltaguns to me. :shrug:

If you told me they were meltas at the begining of a game I would have no issue.

If you waited until mid game, lined up a shot at one of my tanks and started rolling melta dice I would take issue since I would have assumed they were flamers.

Yeah, split the tank (Carefully) in half, and mount it to the sides, and No one would be able to bitch.

Looks good as is, and I would play against it with no issues.

agreed. here's a quick 5 min photoshop (done with my very weak skills) of what i mean. i just clipped the fuel tank off and added it to the stock of the weapon.

i love to simplicity of it, and yeah with that melta barrel no one can question that its a melta.......may have to borrow your idea buddy nice one

I'd accept these as meltas in a game.

the only problem is where are you getting the melta barrel from? if you've got access to melta barrels, you've probably got meltas that don't need converting. from the OP's post, i think he may just be looking for a different looking melta as opposed to meltas in general.

Make multi meltas in this style. That'd be awesome.

The melta barrel might be from a combi-melta perhaps?

It looks pretty cool, and I agree, if it has the melta barrel - it can sure be called a meltagun

I found it pretty straightforward - which arms were you trying to use? Grenade launcher and flamer arms seem to work best.
