I noticed something the other day while rewriting my 2500 tau list, the Shas'o I use is by himself....

This means as an independent character that is by himself, he gains move through cover and skilled rider, flyer etc... What this means is that when deep striking into difficult or dangerous terrain, I would only get a wound if I were to roll a followed by a ....

I can also land in the terrain with little worry, or even start in it!

Does this change any strategies for the Tau?

Not really.
It's nifty, it only changes things if your plans involves the Shas'o on his last wound hindered by terrain that he needs to jump through to get range/LoS. Very narrow situation.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Runnin up on ya.

Yeah, not really because being alone means that he's a target for S8+ weapons. Poof, 200+ pts gone.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

I don't think that the benefits of reducing the chance of a wound being taken outweigh the benefits of keeping your Shas'o or Shas'el in a squad of Crisis suits. Even with Shield Drones, they seem awfully vulnerable.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

it is under the independent character section of the rule book... it only happens when they are alone...

For the record: a 4 wound Shas'o with a 3+ armor save and 4++ invulnerable, armed with a fusion blaster and plasma guns is only 127 points not 200+.
