Hi Guys,

Here are 4 of 5 dreadnoughts for the Blood Angles I am working on. They are in various stages of completion. I'll attach a few pics of each, and add a few follow up pics as I finish them.

Nice ideas, but they look a little to orkish or even chaos-y?

Yah, they are a bit orkish. My goal is to portray a dying blood angles chapter, so I figured the vehicles would be in a state of disrepair with a quick-fix patched up feel to them. Did I go overboard? Perhaps if there was less rust...

Yeah, maybe a little less rust and a bit more silver-ish scrapes on the edges. Where'd you get that barbed wire? I like the fact that it has realistic barbs on it.

I agree with nobaconz though. They do look chaosy.

That over-extended Las-Cannon certainly makes one wonder what the dred is trying to compensate for.
But they definately would pass for Ork Killa-Kans...especially the one with the diamond-deck hull plates.

I agree, real orky looking but I love the diamond plate. Cool idea

Really far too orky looking for my taste and kind of a pity a lot of the conversion work is covering up the awesome models that dreadnoughts are.

I'd try and tone it back a bit to make it more believable that it is a BA successor chapter, i'm pretty sure other BA chapters would have come to their aid before they let their dreads get that messed up!

Definitely overdone- I like the concept of quick fixes, limited resources but your Dreads seem so ramshackle that I think you missed your mark- but I think your conversion work itself is very well done- just too much for the theme you are going for.

Thanks for the input guys. I will likely tone it down a bit (Though I have to say I am in love with the diamond plate). More pics to come. Are there any specific features that should be changed, i.e. get rid of the barbed wire, eliminate the rust, clean up the edges? Also, would more space marine iconography help bring the feel away from orc scrap-machine?

@ sentinel: I got the barbed wire at Hobby Town. If you decide to grab some, wear some leather work gloves. The barbs are sharp and I managed to cut up my hands pretty well. Also, dont wear anything baggy or with a loose knit. I put my arm down on a piece and it took 20 min to get it out of the fibers of my sweater.

Must add, the conversions themselves are really nicely done, and I was about to ask where you picked up that barbed wire from

As said, drop the rust. Last I recall, the armor Marines use cannot rust anyhow. When I think Marines, I can't imagine them as anything but Knightly noble-types, so these just seem to Chaos/Orky for me. I would tone it down a lot and really work on crispness. Even if the Chapter was dying, I would think they would do it with dignity, i.e. clean armor, repair that would not insult the Machine Spirit, etc.

That autocannon is way too over the top huge. It is also a lascannon, judging by the barrels you actually mounted on it (angled barrel = las weapon, always, in the imperium)

It's an interesting concept. The diamond plate seems a bit over the top too. I like the barbed wire dreadnought, it seems like something a BA chapter would do.

where am I? *looks around* Well i'm...errr...I...I...don't know!

agreed, the auto/lascannon is waaay too big. Looks ridiculous. You have also made an already top heavy figure more so, and now it looks like it couldn't stand upright. The death company dread is the best looking and most in tow with the theme of them all...

I like the start you've made with the Furioso - it certainly has potential, if done in a non-orky fashion (I could really see the last tech-marines of a dying chapter desperately fortifying the dread for one last charge).

The death company dread looks great as it is ... just plain scary.

I agree with most, but I really do like the footplate armour that you've put on that dread. Especially the attention you've paid to the weld lines. Reminds me of a documentary I watched about the way the T34 tanks were thrown together.

"You might be a redneck if..." ... you build dreadnoughts that look like this!

Really... high points for creativity. Love the spirit of all the extras, barbed wire, huge guns, diamond plate... welds, beams sticking out everywhere!!

As looted dreads these would be brilliant... but regular marines are wayyy to anal to create anything that look like these. Don't change your dreads, change your amy to something that they'll fit into... orks or chaos. You've got some great ideas... run with them!

Great idea with the barbed wire, personally I think your Death Company Dread is perfect and would like to see the other dreads look more like that one. The diamond plate is a cool idea too but needs to be much neater, following the contours of the dread, to look as though it is some kind of extra armour rather than a patch up. Anyway just my thoughts, keep up the good work

Love the DC Dread too. I also think the autocannon is way too long too. The lascannon ends and slightly wonky barrels don't really help it much either.

I saw lots of improvised armor while I was in Iraq. Your welded on plates are really accurate except they are too shiny IMO.
Your welds are great and very realistic. If hard pressed a marine would go to any lengths to protect such a venerable fighting machine as a dread.

Most steel plate looked similar to this if it had not been painted yet

Do you think a few patches of gray to reduce the shinney nature, and a devlan mud wash would do the trick?

Ok...

So, I changed around the dread with the barrel on its back, and I think I have been able to keep the patch-up theme without making it look like a slip-shod orc creation. The holes in the right arm will be filled with gears, tubes, wires, pipes, and pistons to show the inner workings of the arm.

The second dread will serve as my other furioso. This one may be bordering on chaos at the moment, but I think a good paint job will bring it in line with the blood angles.

this is the second dread. He is a little bit chaos-ish but like I say, the paint job should take care of that. This guy has a big chain on his left arm, and as one might guess there will be something large and deadly at the end of it. Right now, I'm thinking about a large drop of blood. Origionaly, I was going to put barbed wire on this guy similar to the wire on the death dread, but thought that the wire combined with the chains and plates might be a little too busy.

Both these dreads have extra gears and pistons. There are two reasons for this. One, I thought exposed gears would help to perpetuate the patch-up theme. Two...I always looked and dreads and wondered "How the heck do those arms work..."

All right guys, any thoughts? Do the modeling jobs make you think Dreadnought instead of Killa Kan?

I'm really liking the death company dread, seems like he's truely lost his mind!

Also, those last dreads are vey awesome! The chainmail and armor plates look very realistic!

The difference between commitment and involvement is like eggs and ham; the ckicken was "involved", the pig was "comitted".
