Scarabs!

Hi there,
We’ve got something new, something re-released and some events news in this week’s newsletter: Necron Scarabs, Ork Vehicle Weapons and AdeptiCon announcements. Oh my!

Necron Scarab Swarms
Canoptek Scarabs can be found scurrying hither and yon through the vast and dusty halls of a Necron Tomb World. Seemingly mimicking the behaviour of organic invertebrates, a Scarab’s only purpose is to break matter down into energy. On the battlefield, swarms of Scarabs are unleashed both as expendable assault waves and to latch on to and destroy enemy armoured vehicles.

The Necron Scarab Swarms kit, designed by Will Hayes, contains 12 finely detailed multi-part resin Canoptek Scarabs – enough models to build three swarm bases. This kit is available to pre-order now for despatch from the 10th February.
£14.00 (About $25)

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/NECRON_SCARABS_SWARM.html

Ork Vehicle Weapons Set
Ork Mekboyz are unable to resist tinkering with their mechanical creations, in particular bolting on extra weapons until their vehicles bristle with gun barrels. It is debatable if this is to provide additional firepower or simply to give the Ork passengers something to shoot wildly into the air as the trukk, trakk or wagon careens toward the enemy.

The Ork Vehicle Weapons Set, designed by Will Hayes, contains four weapons: a big shoota, twin-linked big shoota, rokkit launcha and skorcha. Each weapon is supplied with a set of optional gunner arms, and can be mounted on any of the vehicles in our Ork range, as well as on the plastic kits available from Games Workshop. This set is available to pre-order now for despatch from the 10th February.
£16.00 (About $22)

For the worked blocked.
Spoiler:

A little much for 3 (4 for me) swarms.. but they do look very nice..
($2 per scarab.. I think I'll stick with my .70 per not scarabs)

See! Forgeworld knows what's up and at least has their finger on the pulse of the community on what is needed....

Granted they are still Forgeworld prices, they're legal in tourny games and look damn nice!

4000pts now... - Main Army, 4000pt , 5000pt , 8000pt ,3000pt

Ouch. 25 dollars for 3 little scarab bases. Pretty salty. They do look nice though.

Wow those scarabs look surprisingly like the discontinued metal scarabs. $25 for 4 (right? 3 per base is probably acceptable) bases does seem unreasonable though.

Soon to add

those scarabs are beautiful little things. Ouch on the price, but I can certainly see people using them for dioramas or to represent wargear

I wouldn't try mixing them with regular swarms though

Something to keep in mind is that the scarabs are, in fact, individual pieces which one could potentially use to spice up the scarabs which come with the Necron Warriors.

It might have been good to have them with the wings like the discontinued scarabs but otherwise good.

Is anyone going to use them when free ones come with warriors IDK.

I run 3 scarabs per base now just because in my mind they have 3 wounds so it makes sense... I just make sure my scarab bases are flockd so they look busier

Those are awesome looking scarab models... a bit pricey, but good to see forgeworld is focusing a bit on the necrons!

Cant wait to see what else will come of this.

Ork weapons are meh. 3 are basic repeats and the only thing fun is the rockets. But not for what, $21 for the set?

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

Just to clear something up fast:
Those are actually new weapons. The originals are:

The new ones are:

I won't deny that the Shootas and Flamer look pretty similar, but they are different.

And according to XE, right now with how the currency rate is, it would be $25 for those.

I'd pass if I were an Ork player, unless I was planning on using them to spice up a character or something.

I think he means they are these old ones simply repackaged:
Spoiler:

Slightly cheaper than individually, plus the twin linked from the more recent set plus arms...

If that's the case, then it's just another case of them bundling things together.

Seriously. I don't see a big deal, outside of them being expensive. They're trying to cut down on the number of "single" items which aren't really selling well/often(Lok/Servitor, DKK Commissars, etc).

My first thought was to use one to represent Mindshackle Scarabs. Of course these are a little oversized to be burrowing into some poor sucker's brain, so I'll be thinking of them as sort of mini-Spyders who produce their own even-minier-Scarabs.

I was just looking at the illustrations in the codex and thinking, "Gee... these scarabs sure look like a cross between the old metal ones and the ones from the warrior sprue."

Forgeword knows what's up... guess I'll give up hope on the 3 bases of scarabs included in the spyder/wraith box.

Awesome!! Im also running 3 per base, so 4 bases for that price isnt all that bad. I will definately pick some up. Itll be a nice mix of FW, GW and Puppetswar scarabs.

@Swara ... you again!!!

For as much as I'd pay for those Scarabs I could buy a box of Warriors and get the Scarabs free (well 62p less, but who's counting?).

Now if they were half the price then maybe I'd reconsider, but at that price I'll just buy more boxes of Warriors.

Edited for epic mathematics fail, it's 62p not 72p

Gotta remember forgeworld is never about price, its about aesthetics. I like how forgeworld looks and am willing to pay the price difference. Just got my forgeworld deathguard army and I really like it.

I want to pick up some of these scarabs and like people said run three to a base and mix it in with the regular ones.

I cant wait

People who stopped buying GW but wont stop bitching about it are the vegans of warhammer

Oh don't get me wrong I have these guys as my sternguard for my SM chapter, and I love 'em to bits, but with these Scarabs it's a bit Meh! Especially for something I can get for free with a box of Warriors that I can make, as you pointed out, 4 bases from instead of Gee Dubs recommended 3.

Edit: Yay, my hundredth post

I'm afraid I personally don't like these scarabs. They remind me of an ant more than a scarab. I was hoping they would do something more like their Ripper Swarm. Oh well....

I like em.

They remind me of the forgeworld ripper bases. Which are far and away the only way to field them IMO.

I WISH they were more like the ripper bases. I have 3 of them and they look amazing and THEY would be more worth the money. This comes out to over 2 bucks a scarab though.. Might think about it if there weren't any alternatives.. but as someone had said before, it's almost cheaper to buy a warrior box.

EDIT: I know that Forgeworld is always going to be more expensive.. but I did the math with the discount I get and it is .90 (US) cheaper to buy a box a warriors with the same about of scarabs than to buy the scarabs from forgeworld..

Yes yes I get that they are "new. But not that new, pretty much like the old ones. The Big shoota with ammo is just like the metal one I have lying around. Same with the flamer, in fact missing in your picture is the can that the metal one I own comes with that makes it exactly alike- only you can shoose with side the side canister goes on.. The T-L big shoota is just like the plastic one you get with the old plastic buggie. The rocket is only different. actually the only thing thats worth getting in the lot.

Not nearly worth the $25 they want for it.

Huh, so the little flight stands are made out of resin...seams like they would be a bit too brittle for the application.

No disagreements on the "worth" of it.

I can't envision any Ork players using it, unless they want to use it something like the Space Marine Character Conversion kit that FW has.

As to the "little flight stands"--they can likely be snipped off and leave no real trace.
