Subject: Video: How to fix some common problems with photos of minis.
First video tutorial of any type so constructive feedback would be brilliant
This is a very simple tutorial showing you how to fix some of the most common problems people have with their photos, colour casts, lack of proper white balance, and grey tinges from under exposure.
It also shows how to quickly get a mini onto a nice little background which will help show it off. Great for those shots you really like but which are slightly off colour or missing brightness
Nice tutorial. It's very clear, English is not my native language but I understood everything.
One thing that came to my mind is that a good way to show what one step does is to undo/redo it twice or thrice. Quite like the dakka gallery does with original/corrected image when you upload one.
Not useful on each step, but it may help on those that are not the most visible at first sight. In your video, might be good one steps like brightness correction.
Oh, and it's a good point that you talked about images cropping and resizing. I can't bear no more seeing 4,000 pixels wide images, with just one miniature somewhere surrounded by inches of grey background. ^^
Cropping is so easyyyyyyyy.
(BTW, I like your accent, don't know where it's from but it sounds good to my ears) (and that squig is so funny)

I could listen to that Irish accent all day long, is there any chance of you doing more gimp tutorials? I'm about to grab a copy now, not just for mini's but also for general photo retouching..
Again, great tutorial, especially for your first vid..
Snake-eyes, everybody wins!! Oh, no, wait, my bad.. Oops..

I would watch WAY more video tutorials if they all had your voice on them. Your accent adds character without obscuring the words at all, so that people who may not speak English natively should have no problems understanding. It's also very pleasant to hear. Some tutorials are excellent until you hear some wheezing guy start talking and breathing into the mic.
As for the content of the video itself, I'm sold. This is a very simple process that doesn't involve flipping through photoshop tutorials to figure out what we need for our specific type of editing. I will be downloading Gimp and using this process for all of my finish pictures of models from now on. Thank you for your contribution to the community.

I am downloading Gimp as I am typing this. You should make more tutorials as you seem to be very good at explaining things easily. (I will join the crowd and say your voice is very pleasing but maybe it is just because you aren't a dude so there is that)

Nicely done, I might download the Gimp and mess around a bit. Of course, I'd have to get a proper light box and stuff first, but at least this exists if I ever get up off my arse and do so.
Sorry about the quietness, I have no idea what happened. When it was an AVI it sounded perfect, but when I converted it into mpeg4 it lost a lot of volume and my experience with video edition is 0, so I couldn't work out a way of splitting the audio and video to higher it again :(
Hopefully as I get more experienced making these, they won't have silly problems like that.
I'm planning on doing a simple painting tut like the one in my sig next, but with the new livecam I got Should be a lot of fun.
Great work. My suggestion would be slow down a bit, I think you could easily stretch the same dialogue to 10 min. I have done a lot of public speaking, and I have always found that my message is more clearly communicated when I slow my pace down, and speak in a manner to me, that seams slow.
Would it be possible to do a video detailing your tips and tricks for actually taking the picture of the model? There are plenty of articles and what not but a video tutorial showing set up, lighting, all that jazz would be great.

I think it could indeed be possible, but considering this is what my photo setup looks like -
I don't think it would be a very good video Tissue paper tiny lightbox for the win.
The point being that most people don't really have much a clue when it comes to taking pics of minis (and I include myself in that group) given the paucity and contradictory nature of information out there. We're always told that light is important but how much and where? Some people advocate using a macro mode, others say to take picture from further away but zoomed in. You know, tips and tricks like that.
The tutorial on fixing up the photos is great but there are some of us that need to get the decent shot in the first place - as they say, you can polish a turd but you can't make it smell any better!

I've had Gimp 2.6 for a while now, with no clue how to use it. After watching this, I'll definitely be taking the tips on board and I'll probably play around with the programme a bit, to see what else I could do. Would the same thing work for putting landscapes/clouds in the background? Thank you so much for posting!
I also agree with the afore mentioned comments. A tutorial on the photography itself would be rather helpful... and your voice is wonderful!
Just Subscribed to your Youtube channel. I look forward to seeing more!
