This is my project for a Chaos Space Marines Stormbird, the bigger earlier version of the thunderhawk. Using 2 Chaos Land Raider and 2 Stormraven Gunship kits I am currently working on finishing the out shell.

Check out my gallery and tell me what you think about it.

First off: Post your wip photos here instead of linking to your gallery, this is after all the P&M Blog section.

As for the stormbird it's looking good so far. Remember to get hold of some thin plasticard to create the achtypical layered armor of space marine vehicle designs on the large flat areas to unify the look across the model.
Also, that tail from the stormraven; that has to go asap. it is too small and looks a bit silly to be honest. try scratchbuilding something that's more to scale instead.

Good luck with the project.

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.

Looking at the photos, but it doesn't look that big though. I mean, it looks smaller than a Thunderhawk...

Definitely need to post the pictures here. As someone who works in social media, I'll tell you right off the bat that you're not going to get much commentary back if you force the readers to do all the work, lol.

However, what you do have so far looks cool. I'll echo the sentiment that it doesn't seem to capture the size of the Stormbird though, which, iirc, was supposed to carry an entire company's worth of Marines.

However, at the very least, it looks more flightworthy than the Thunderhawk, lol. I was recently contemplating what kind of "modernization' GW could do to the Thunderhawk, since that given all the consistent complaints about poor quality control, it is painfully obvious that the current molds at Forgeworld need to be redone anyway.

Thanks for the comments, and yes the tail should be bigger. Maybe I'll Try to make it bigger and the tail fatter.
And yes I'll post the pictures from now on also here.

About the size as I figured it this model is much more "broader" than the thunderhawk main body. And offcourse it should be even bigger, but I want to use this model in normal games etc so I want to be able to proper deploy it on a avarage sized table.

And I have been checking out other pictures from the Galleries so from now on there will be a (CHAOS!) space marine model in the pictures for the size. This is the first time I am on such a forum so I am learning about that while I work on the model.

Also a nice Rhino mark I for the size this time. Yes my army uses mark 1's

So the next part of the Stormbird was making it more chaos and this was more difficult than I thought, got to busy and had to redo my whole thinking about it.

So tell me what you think about it. And Yes I am keeping the tail. Kinda like it this way, almost looks like the Bird could do without it.

Also it is time too name this ship, so if anyone have any ideas let me know. Remember it will be a Night Lord vessel.

This is secondary control room, i presum! But what aboutr if you add there some artillery!? And to make it more chaotic......you can add some corps tied on the hoods in the side of the Stormbird and lot of Chaos icon!

Mostly, on my phone.

It's very cool; needs more rivets though! In terms of chaos-ing, think of the reaver ships in firefly/serenity - bodies lashed randomly to them, strange spikes, etc.

It's a very nice model! It would make a good thunderhawk stand-in. However, as for a stormbird, it's too small. A stormbird is massive! Think 2-3 thunderhawks in size and capacity.

Well one of the things in the Novels is a double cockpit with marines sitting back to back. I did not get it completly right since they would be sitting a bit away from eachother.

Well the discussions go on and on about what a stormbird can do. In my vision the thunderhawk was a more sleaker version of the stormbird able to be made but multple forceworlds, That does not mean it's smaller than a stormbird to length only that is would have a smaller hull etc. As I mentioned before I do game a lot so my model should at least be able to be played and placed on the board etc. I made the hull of this Stormbird bigger than twice the hull from a Landraider with minimum of weapons. I think the Stormbird was mainly the dropship that brought the Marines to the fight, with weapons to protect the Bird while going down (under power).

therefore there are 6 turrets covering the front back top and bottom with fast firing solid projectiles. (I know the front turret is made from the 6 linked bolters turret from the stormraven, but at this moment I do not have anything else. Once I get a Maulerfiend I'll have the bits to place some nice Hades Autocannons there.) Futhermore the wings do have a total of 8 small (stormraven) missilles for clearing the dropzone. The difference between this and a thunderhawk is no main Turbolaser/battlecannon and no twinlinked lascannons. Although the Hades Autocannon is not a backup gun. Once on the ground it would be more a bunker HQ centre.

Well since this is going to be a Nightlord Dropship there are hooks on the model to hang some bodies but most of them should go into the skinning pits and hanging them on a dropship that can go into space is kinda useless and yes there are going to be more rivets.

No more cutting and glueing! there comes a moment you have to bite the bullet and start painting. The only parts more than the last pictures are 4 lascannons (2 times twin-linked). And some spiky bits on the wings. Also more hooks to place some models on it later on, The idea is to make multiple models for all hooks so that I can tease the opponent with "his" corpses on my Flyer. The only thing I am still not happy about is the front turrets, but that will soon change since promises have been made that 2 Hades autocannons are in the maill donated by a Dutch Dakka member.

Coming along nicely! Amazing the difference a bit of paint makes. I know from my own experience of doing a scratch baneblade that it can be quite a hard road - keep the cool work!

Very cool looking. The intimidation factor of that monster streaking out of the clouds towards the enemy must be immense. Which is of course perfect for the Night Lords. ^^

That's looking very fine indeed good sir! Should you every think of making another one you should make a tutorial. (You could of course rip the original apart, not sure that is the best of ideas though..)

Well it's not finished yet, think I am about 40% done with painting. As For the basing of the model, I intend to get a hollow plexiglass tube from about 5" with on top of that a plexiglass square that will fit the model hull. The base will be the size of a CD as I will use a old CD holder for base.
