Savnock - Thanks! I've always wondered what GW's official stance would be on these. Perhaps when they're done I'll go and find out. I'm planning on trying to do that "Armies on Display" thing with these and my guard but we'll see what my financial status is come Games Day 2011.

Commander Cain - Thanks! I'm afraid that its way too late in the project to go for remote control. Although I did try (and not successfully) to find some cheap remotes to work the sound effects.

mindfield - Thanks! The power supply is just one of those 4 AA holders you can get at most DIY shops.

The Dreadnote - Thanks!

CT GAMER - Thanks! I used them unpainted in a battle earlier (40k per side) but due to the fact I was running it and told not to affect the outcome by my boss I did rather poorly. Nothing like shooting all your titans at shield drones

skotter - Yeah I'm a huge aliens nut so I found it quite amusing.

marvlev - Thanks!

cccchristoph - Thanks! You can see better pics of my non-titan works in my "Painting for the Emperor" thread.

sennacherib - Thanks! It's less insanity and more "Modeling OCD" it's like gamer ocd but it goes a little crazier at times.

Orlanth - Thanks!

Well I put some more solder down and built some of the lights for the damage counters.

First up here's the circuit board with some additions.

There's 4 new wires on there which will lead to the 2 buttons, which will control the 2 individual damage counters (1 for shields, 1 for structure points). And here's the backs.

I also started working on the lights. While the green ones looked cool I thought they'd look a bit odd (being round) on the back end of a block-y imperial titan, so I decided to go with some square ones.

Of course they won't show up if they're not on since they're going to be red on a red titan, but that's kind of the point. I added the plastic spacers to break up the monotone color. There will be little strips on the top and bottoms as well.

mindfield - Thanks!

So I bet you're wondering why I'm building lights instead of just buying them. I had originally started out using purchased ones however the store I buy my LEDs from is surplus and they had run out of the LEDs I had in my collection. Which means that I had to build some. Well here's the comparison:

My built ones are on the left. Makes a big difference huh? I think mine are a lot cooler than the purchased one so I built 8 sets (2 for each warhound). Well that's going to require re-cutting the holes since these are bigger, but that will come later. It is now time to wire one of these bad boys up and try it out.

sugna the repairible - Thanks!

mindfield - It's not crazy at all I'll see if I can get the chip info when I get home from class tonight.

So y'all remember this setup

But where are those little hanging switches going to go?
They can't just be exposed (mainly because super glue won't hold them to anything), so they'll need to be sunk into the resin reactors, there's 2 ways to do this.
Way 1, painstakingly grinding out a square area for each switch using a dental dremel.

Well this seems overly complicated... I wonder how I could make this easier. So first up I built a jig using the inside of my large punch set.

Now I just slip some plasticard in there and give it a whack.

Next it's over to the chopper to make sure this little panel will cover the button.

And now all that's left is to test it out.

Perfect fit! After setting up the jig I had all 8 finished in about 10 minutes! It's looking like I'll have the damage control LEDs installed by the end of the week!

juicaj1 - Thanks!

wolfshadow - Thanks! It'll either be a melta or a plasma.

Spellbound - Thanks! I can't wait to field these guys against your reaver.

mindfield - Thanks! I'll try to get that schematic done for you some time. I've been flooded with school work this week so that's why the updates are few and far between.

So as I've said school was a killer this past few weeks but I managed to get a bit done!

First up I installed the Damage control buttons

And I installed the lights.

I've also been getting some PMs about how I do certain things or what tools I use. So I've taken some photos of some of my "weirder" tools.

First up is a Fiskar's Matte Cutter. It's used for making that piece that goes between your photo and the frame, the matte.

Simply slip some plasticard in there,

Press down and push the blade across, and you've got a nice straight cut.

Now for thicker pieces it won't cut all the way through, os you'll have to break the piece along the cut.

Next up is my punch and die sets. The smaller waldron punches

Are really good for making rivets and the like.

But for bigger things like the button holder

You need to bring out the big guns.

If y'all have any questions about how I use a tool or where I it please don't hesitate to post or PM!

The next step is going to be catching the other 4 warhounds up to this stage (gluing the buttons and lights in) and then its on to working on the headlights!

I can't believe you're not doing any animation! You've already got power. You HAVE to include at least some rotating sensors or something.
(or maybe a cough . . . . . motion activated rotating torso that turns towards movement .. . . cough)

this is about as cool as that "life-sized" predator.

You know they have "life-sized" mecha in Japan, maybe you should make one more warhound, but a bit larger.

TrooperPX - Thanks!

SpacePanzee - Thanks! There's animation, you may want to check the videos of the guns posted earlier.

Jake Bake A Cake - Thanks! If it walked, you'd want it to run. If it ran you'd want it to climb stairs. If it climbed stairs you'd want it to fly. There's really no end to what would be cool. However the pose-ability is what I wanted to do.

vignor - Thanks!

MudgeBlack - Thanks! It's a bit of a read I admit but you'll find some interesting links and some good info sprinkled throughout.

Well it's time for another update! This time as promised it's the headlights. I had picked up some SUPER bright white LEDs on my last trip to the electronics store which looked like they'd work great as headlights. These babies put out nearly as much light as those 9 LED flash lights, per LED.

First up is soldering the resistor onto the Anode (+) side

After that's soldered on next up is some wires and heatshrink. I had some trouble on how to mount the LEDs to the housing. I tried painting the housing channel silver and then slipping the bulbs in but that looked too much like a toy. So I found some tube that is exactly the size of the LEds and slipped them in.

The last photo was taken with the lights on, under all of my work lights so the LEDs don't appear very bright.
The headlights will have their own power switch so if I'm playing a big game they won't run the power down for my sound effects. It will also be handy to turn off so I don't blind any kids running around the game shop.

Headlights! Wow, haha. Well I guess the titans would need them once in a while, though I'd imagine the warhounds would most likely turn it off, if they're stalking bigger targets or other titans.

Ive been following this thread for a while and have only just finished reading all the posts. This is really AMAZING WORK! saying that this will be a force to be reckoned with is the understatement of the year.
Make sure you do a good job painting them closer to the end.

One question: have you thought about their eventual colour scheme? and if so, what will they look like?

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

Absolutely awesome and stunning work Foda_Bett. Much kudos to you and your dad ! Having read through the all 18 pages i'm pretty much speechless. Your work so far is inspiring.

I gotta say, my favourite part so far is way back in the early pages of the thread - the video of the working ack-ack gun. Bought back so many fond memories of my AT-AT (which my son has now somewhere in his room) and the working guns under the head controlled from inside the body.

Also, your (for wont of a better word) 'workbench' set-up is amazingly cool.

Keep it up...

mindfield - There's a few instances in the books where they need to use headlights to find a target. It's funny how bright these lights are. You can almost play a game by the 8 lights alone!

perplexiti - Thanks!

neil101 - Thanks! The electronics have been pretty much a trial and error. I've got a tub of resistors and I just attach one to the alligator clips and try it out on the lights.

Solar_lion - Thanks! If you're vacuuming the silicon after a while it will slowly simmer down. The bubbles will continue to rise for almost 5 minutes and then at some time, the bubbles will slow to almost a crawl, this is usually the time I pull it out. It's pretty much a pressure pot (for forcing the resin into the molds), and a vacuum chamber. The pump I found on ebay, same with the pressure pot.

KillaKan - Thanks! They'll be Legio Metallica (Iron Skulls). The overall scheme will be red, there will be some panels with yellow/black or white/black stripes.

Ruglud - Thanks! I had one of those AT-ATs when I was a kid. They were a blast!

By all that is Holy...

I am merely stunned at the reslts thus far. The amount of effort you and your dad (and the co-worker at times) have put in is clearly a lot and it really shows. The addition of electronics is clever and innotive.

In general this thread rocks so hard it would explode outwards with so much Awesome and Win it would shatter the Universe. Heck it is just as good as (if not a smidgen better) the almighty Titan done by BulldogUK on the Bolter&Chainsword (among his other endeavours). Seriously man, this is fantastic. Well I finally got my Battlefoam cases in but there was a slight problem. I had originally discussed with Romeo the way the case would hold the warhounds was standing up in a pack max. However when I got my cases in it turns out that the titans were split in half! So the old man and I had to do some major redesign on the way the warhounds are built.

We decided the best way to add a carriage bolt to the torso and lock in a square nut in the crotch.

Here's the bolt

Notice the square bit near the head? That's what will help hold it in place.

Here's the setup pre cutting the nut/bolt holder

One of the thinner pieces are added to the larger piece to hold the nut in place, the larger piece by itself is enough to hold the bolt.

The nut in place before adding the bottom thin piece

The bottom nut in place and glued into the crotch

After a few trials we realized we needed something in the middle to stop the warhound from loosening while turning during games

And a pair of those installed doesn't add much space between the 2 halves

And here you can see how it lines up.
