Dwarf potion lets him take 1 attack instead of the Hero being attacked.
"Bonus Potion" is the potions rolled when in combat, it better to give it to the Pally or other Hero who potions are more usefully over the course of the game.

Going to be playing this for the first time tomorrow, but I just spent the past few hours putting together (most) of the miniatures. The person who designed these things needs to be taken out and shot! These are some of the most poorly designed*** miniatures I've seen in a long time. Putting them together was like dealing with miscast Forge World stuff. The two wrists on the Ember Mage's staff are closer together than the joins. The Barbarian's axe does not meet the two joins on her body. It took more patience than super-glue to get the Hexmage's staff to stay put. And that dragon... oh God that fething dragon... I've got 12 more Kobolds to put together. I can see what Gabe (from Penny Arcade) meant when he said that after building the SDE models the last thing he wanted to do was actually play SDE. Of course, he also said that when he did play it it made the pain of putting them together worth it. ***Designed, as in how they go together, not how they look. The models look great, they're just a nightmare to assemble.

@H.B.M.C.-They are very easy to fix. Just put a mug of water in the microwave for 45 seconds. Then take the pieces that dont fit and dip them in the mug for a few seconds. When you take them out they will bend right into shape. Makes putting the dragon together so simple.

Ok, so we played our first game. We were learning the rules as we went, but it's pretty fun so far. The only thing I don't like is how once the Consul has used a creature he cannot use it again until the next round starts (not his next turn, but the whole next round). It means that most of the bad guys can't do anything, They can move up and get into melee, but then they die before they can swing because: 1). They almost always have no armour, so no way to defend against incoming attacks. 2). They, with a few exceptions, only get one action a round, so once they move that's it. They can't attack until the next round, and by that stage the heroes have killed them all. Only the Iron Scales and some of the little Dragons were useful. The main Dragon was killed in one hit thanks to a piece of treasure the players got early on. And we had a Boo Booty spawn from a Boo Booty, which didn't make a lot of sense.

Based upon your experiences, and the experience that I had when playing the game myself, the game is a lot of fun, but requires some house ruling.
However, being such a small, self contained game, that shouldn't be an issue between your regular gaming group.

Moving doesn't count as an action. That might help your consul out a bit.

As saif by someone else, moving doesn't cost an AP and remember you can run which should get your guys at the back into the fight faster.
The Consul's lack of armor isn't that big of a problem and can be easiely fixed by using the abilites avalible to you. A kobold on his own sucks, a pack of kobolds is awsome, remember to use your buffs! Also don't forget each time the marker passes the 16bit mark the Consul gets the top loot card and everything you summon benefits from that card or cards...
How exactly did the Dragon get killed in on hit? 95% of the attacks in the game only deal 1 damage and the remaining 5% only deal 2 damage...

Boo Booty finally collapses in a flutter of wood coloured pixels. The heroes expected a coin font to float up from the debris and credit the heroes pursebags, but suddenly **reboot** Boo Booty was not life=o after all, life=1!! With a leap and a snarl the sprite of Boo Booty sprung into gnashing action and the combat music restarted.

Thanks, yeah, shipping to the UK is $50 though! I ended up cracking, and phoning Esdevium (Soda Pop's UK distributor), who said it'd be several months yet before any were available through them again (they sold out of their allocation last year, and their next allocation isn't till the next print run -- I think CMON/Soda Pop still have a handful of copies in stock to sell direct, but that's about it).

Thread necro, but only because this specific point is really important to me, and it's not clear at all. There's a reason you're short on Kobolds, right? When it's your turn to spawn more monsters, and they're all on the board, you CAN'T spawn more, right? I assumed the numbers of monsters the Consul gets is an allocated resource. You can't just buy more kobolds and then spawn them. The cards for each spawn point say how many of each monster to take, and that's all you get.

Yes that is the max you can have on the board... Each spawn card has a number of critters listed and a spawn point, and in case of kobold warrens, 2 spawn points per card.. That is how many you get per spawn card, but you can recycle the critters (minions and/or denizens) when they die.
To make it easier, when we set up a game, the selected spawn card is placed first, and all its associated critters are pulled and placed as "playable". Anything not on one of the selected spawn card stays in the box. As heroes kill them, they go back in the "spawnable" pool. For a Super game, using the starter box, all monsters and spawn points are "playable" and cycle through, exactly matching the numbers needed per the spawn point cards.
Hope that makes sense. I tried to say it a couple of ways...
Catyrpelius might have wanted to run a Super+ game, i.e. more heroes, or else have two dragon clutches. But more kobolds is mentioned, so I'm not sure.
Edits - Derp. I should read more, post less.

This is an old thread, but I guess it's not hurting anything...
I've only had one abbreviated game of this- the folks around here seemed to be a little disappointed by the ruleset. Hoping to get more exposure as I love the look of it and may end up purchasing it in the future.

The rules do have a few issues. For instance, when you place treasure chests you cannot place them in a room with the heroes. This actually makes it impossible to place all chests as you can only place one per tile and the number of tiles placed is equal to the number of heroes.
There also is an issue with which squares you can move through. If you follow the explanation in the book there are several rooms that Rex and the Dragon cannot even enter though clearly that was not the intent.
A few house rules fix this though and it really is a good game. Can't wait for Caverns of Roxor!

Haha got my set on the 2nd production, my local store ordered it for me and another box for whoever's interested Just unpacked it, and seems they listened to people and included Assembly instructions. Gotta say, looking very slick indeed, well worth the money
EDIT
would appear they fixed the problem with needing to wash the models, at least from what iv seen so far. Only started the paladin but he was free of residue and glued without needing a wash.
