People love the GW Exorcist. It's an undeniable fact that it has a large following, for its sheer ridiculousness and incredible blinginess.

I like the model too, but I'll forever cling to the image of Sisters as being more soldier than icon - I like the FW Exorcist.

So, I thought... what can I then use the organ gun for?

Well, how about actually playing music?!

War Organ [Elites] - 60 points

BS 4 FA 11 SA 11 RA 11 HP 3

Unit Composition:
1 War Organ

Wargear:
Storm Bolter, Smoke Launchers, Searchlight, Laud Hailer, Organ of Retribution

Special Rules:
Shield of Faith

Transport Capacity:
1 model

Access Points:
2 side hatches

Options:
May take vehicle upgrades from Codex: Adepta Sororitas.

May be accompanied by up to two of the following, forming a squadron:
- Sororitas Rhino.......................... codex cost
- Immolator.................................. codex cost
- War Organ................................. 60 pts each
- Penitent Engine......................... codex cost

Organ of Retribution: This weapon does not have a standard profile. Instead, it provides a passive bonus to friendly units with a model within 6", chosen at the start of the shooting phase. These effects last until the start of the controlling player's next shooting phase, and can include the Organ's squadron. Such is the skill of the Sister playing the instrument that this does not count as firing a weapon.
- Hymn of Loyalty: Affected models may reroll all failed Leadership tests.
- Hymn of Vengeance: Affected models receive +1 attack and a +1 bonus to Combat Resolution.
- Hymn of Victory: Affected units may reroll the dice when determining how far they run or flat-out.

If the Organ of Retribution does not have a profile, does not effect enemy units, and does not count as firing a weapon, then why not just call it a piece of wargear?

Unless the intent is that Weapon Destroyed Results on the Vehicle Damage table can take it out.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

That is, indeed, the intent.

I love the idea. Especially the name of it.

An idea to make it more fun:

Wargear:
Storm Bolter, Smoke Launchers, Searchlight, Laud Hailer, Organ of Retribution, Loudspeaker.

Options:
May purchase up to four addition loudspeakers - 20 pts each

Loudspeaker: A Loudspeaker increases the effect of the Organ of Retribution by 12". Each weapon-destroyed result destroys a Loudspeaker.

Loudspeakers are called "Laud Hailers" in-universe.

Or Vox Casters depending on context. I always figured the Laud Hailer was a loudspeaker that was specifically used to laud (praise) the Imperial Creed.

I'm not sure about an upgrade to bolt extra speakers onto it... is its range that much of an issue? You can already take multiples to build a bigger bubble.

I like the idea of Laud Hailers (or whatever you want to call em) to increase the range, but I'd limit it to one upgrade that increases the range to 12". With a 6" range, the units really have to clump up against the organ to get the benefit, which could make maneuvering on the battlefield awkward. 30" bonuses (if somebody can take 4 speakers) with that many weapons that need to be destroyed one at a time seems like a bit much.

40k is 111% science.

If I may make a suggestion then:

Organ of Retribution: The Organ of Retribution provides a passive bonus to friendly units with a model within 6", chosen at the start of the shooting phase. These effects last until the start of the controlling player's next shooting phase, and can include the Organ's squadron. Note that for the purposes of Vehicle Damage, the Organ counts as a weapon.

This way you still get what you are looking for, without the hassle of "This is a weapon...doesn't count as firing a weapon."

Ah, it's supposed to affect a whole unit even if only one model from that unit is within the 6" mark. I guess if you're running MSU, that could be a problem though.

That is probably a more elegant way of doing it.

A Vox-Caster is actually a radio transceiver, typically used to refer to a man-carried or vehicle-mounted military-style radio. It's what units need to take advantage of Orders.

As to the bubble thing, I'm thinking that it should just have a base range of, like, 12", and the Laud-Hailers are just on it by default, because this is an Ecclesiarchy vehicle that is designed to be playing music at high volume. Cherubs bearing censers of incense are an after-market add-on. With a 12" stock bubble, you have a total of 24" + length of vehicle (park it sideways) reach with its hymn. Get 3 of these things on the table, and you can cover just about everything worth covering..

Some of the Vox Caster models have large speakers instead. :p

Well, yes, I mean, a military radio has speakers on it (or, rather, it can. You can also use a headset with a boom-mic or a handset). Your standard vehicle mounted one has a steel-cased grill speaker that mounts on top of the rack so that the driver and the passenger (who is, ironically, not responsible for radio ops, that's also the driver's job) can hear who's calling.

I love the whole WW2/Korean War-esque vibe of the Imperium's field radios, and not only because i, myself, was an RTO in the Army.

How did I miss this thread? It combines my love of 1) tanks 2) buff bubbles 3) the absurd. My only quibbles are

1) who's the one passenger supposed to be -- a Canoness or Priest or something? What does that one passenger do?

2) why Rear Armour 11? Other Rhino variants are all 11/11/10.

3) I agree with Psienesis that laud hailers should be default wargear and that the base range should be 12" -- this thing should be LOUD.

Laud Hailers are default wargear, it's the Laudspeaker that's optional :p But I suppose so, if opinions match. So that would make it 70 points base, do we think that's fair? I dunno, seventy points feels like a lot for something so fragile that can't "earn its points" in a single turn...

RA11 is a typo that nobody else picked up on. ^^;

One passenger is... yeah, the idea is a priest or Canoness, and is mostly because I'm frustrated at not being able to fit a priest in my command squad immolator... >> just snuck it in there, lol.

RA 11 is still in there. (I started my career doing copy editing and still fix my boss's typos all the time, I can't help it).

Costing is hard, but the ability for Sisters to form a squadron is itself somewhat valuable. (If you could squadron Exorcists, it would be awesome/broken). My rough Ovion-style costing would be

Spoiler:

Sororitas rhino: 40 points
Reduce troop capacity from 10 to 1: -9*2 = -27
Add limited ability to squadron: +10
Add Laud Hailers: +10
Ability to give War Hymns-like buffs, w/o needing to check Ld, to units within 12", let's say on average 3 units: 3*20 = 60?

40 + 10 + 10 + 60 = 120
120 - 27 = 93

So 90 points at a rough guess.

Um. Yeah. Math. Sleep. Can't have one without the other, apparently. Ovion rates transport capacity at ~2 points per model carried, somehow my brain dialed it up to 3 ppm between writing the first part of the equation and the last.
