If it's iron/gold/diamond etc, you'll find that happens on most servers...
Use the map to find a nice spot for your place or ask if you can create a plot in suburbia.
Just stuff to start, Wood, etc. I can find iron, etc later. Are the food/ wood spawn marked on the map?
I've claimed the entire contient my castle is situated on which is actually quite large. Only reason is to stay away from people.
Plus it has quite a few things there.
The dish thing ain't mine.
But i was wondering who it was.
But they are pretty close to me. But the castles and the towns are owned by me. Because I built them. I plan on making a city soon once i get my materials together. (yes this is a big project.) But half of it will be private the other players can use.

see those big trees outside the sheep farm, that's my wood farm that is for public use.
The second one is indoors are a bit hard to find, but basicly it is right outside the spawn point.

I replant trees by using saplings that fall out of it if I use all the wood, right?
*leaves* yes thats right space the tree too. do not kill the sheep at all. Remember to also feed the cows so that way when you kill the father you can get meat and give others a chance.
This page shows their Dakka username, their Minecraft Name, the date they were whitelisted, any notes (such as who vouched them) and a link to their Dakka profile to make it easy to PM or contact them. This should save you time finding out who people are.
On that note, as you can see from the list, as of right now (midnight in the UK), today is my 1st Dakka Minecraft server birthday! Hurrah!

also, i've desided to stop my pouting, so while my pyramid house will still stand, I will not be living in it all the time.
actually, if anyone wants it, just ask me and I'll probably give it too you, it is very safe (from mobs, at least) and I'll be making a few changes to my suburbia house as I've gotten a few ideas...
I know someone's doing a Dwarven thing. I'm still interested, and I have Minecraft access again.
Also, if anyone wants to help me with the Deeps at the Mesa, I've determined that it's time I replace the natural tunnels with at least rough-hewn passages, but I can't decide what size or design to make them.
With the maze, its not the inside thats spawning mobs, its actually the outside of the maze, which needs to be lit! If the maze top is not lit within 24 hours, I'll do it myself.
That, and it looks ugly, either sheathe it in wood/cobblestone to the waterline, or make it look nice. That thing looks like a dead mouse, its just a mess of cobble and netherstone. If you cubed the whole thing and lit the top, I would have no complaints. The only fact is that your crappy workmanship makes it look like a turd. That and the fact that you are hardly on and when you are, you don't even LISTEN to a word I say.

Ooops. Missed that. I only had a quick scan down the list so I didn't notice.
Dwarven stuff: I have a huge underground complex (multiple ravines and abandoned mines and caverns, joined together) which I'm in the process of neatening up (most of it is now lit, but I'm adding even flooring, steps, access, etc.). Next stage after that is deciding on purposes for the areas -- a great banqueting hall that used to be a ravine, for example. I'd love some help with that. I want it to be Moria, basically (probably complete with some areas that are still fell, i.e. full of monsters).
I also have a Beanstalk & Giant's Castle project, somewhat stalled by the need to gather a shed-load more white wool to make the cloud. The beanstalk itself is complete, and goes above cloud level. I will tweak it slightly to add wooden stairs, now that the initial need for a dirt staircase is done (i.e. I have grass on the cloud island at the top now). Would love assistance with that. I want the castle to be approximately 3 x human scale, but otherwise pretty much a straight castle. Haven't even started on the castle itself.

I'm not sure what one of those is, best to ask the Minecraft.net peoples about that. Go to the Store or "Buy now" page to see their methods of payment. I heard someone managed to get it with a pre-paid credit card (The kind you buy in shops usually for gifts or travel).

Nope, Banned users are currently not shown at all, but you can tell where they were because the ID number skips a number. I plan to prettify the list over the coming weeks (just wanted to get a working list out there to begin with) and eventually it may show banned users too, along with the reason (mainly so you can tell if you can claim an abandoned structure etc).

Yep, you have to tick Signs on the map to show them (they are off by default). However, if you've just added a sign, it won't show up till I next update the map (this evening hopefully).
Doctadeth I don't see how you have a leg to stand on when you have two basic trees and a jungle tree piled ontop of each other with a wooden balcony. That looks ugly.
Oh, well I am looking a little more....better at the moment. There are much worse in suburbia, like Coolio's cock top tower. Oh, and yes I am renovating it as well, plus you haven't even seen the underneath of it. I may have originally had an eyesore, but its whats underneath that looks cool.
The maze however, looks like a dead fish. Tell you what, if you fix the maze, I'll fix the house.
Yeah, the maze is pretty feth ugly, and other than those who own it, I haven't heard of anyone using it much. (if it's possible), ask dark nicely to move it somewhere away from civilisation/where it's wanted?
Just use my old idea, use wool to make a backdrop to hide it then deny it's existance or just say "I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of the maze at this time" when it's brought up.
@Ian- would snow blocks work for the cloud? I have almost a chest full, and can easily get more.
I'll stop by sometime, though- I have the same issue with the Deeps, where I'm not sure how exactly to neaten the tunnels and such up, while keeping all the useful stuff around. Maybe we can have them connected to each other?

I don't know, I can be quite stealthy when I need to, too.
On the old server I play'd on no one could find me or my temp house, even though I was being hunted down
And I've gone for about 30min sneaking around suburbia without anyone noticing (and this was when there were about 10 people in it)
Anyway, while I'm thinking of it, what happened to Demin's house?
Oh, wow. Didn't realize that was so far away. Might be a bit of a treck- though I'm liking the idea of an entire Dwarven underground going across all of the server- have a couple of massive lit caverns for farms of various kinds, living quarters, long stretches of empty tunnel with waystations, and of course connections to the surface world and Nether in prime spots.
The Mesa (and the Deeps thereunder) is waaaaaaaaay over here.

And this server must have more full-scale Cathedrals than anywhere else... I mean really. There's at least two to three built, and saw one more going up.
WE need a monument to People. I also have created a In memoriam in one of my towns I plan on moving them to the outside and putting them near one of the prime locations. So that way my village has space to put more buildings down.

Spoiler tags of course as there's a few as he made it out about 2-300 blocks after going in circles for a bit.
Spoiler:
He starts off by exploring the swamp.
Discovered sheep.
Almost fell into the cave under the water here
Swamp squid.
Land squid sort of and time to go underground. -.-
Figured it would probably end here and rather boringly.
But it found the way out somehow.
Finally leave the swamp biome and begin climbing some mountains.
He discovers a floating rock.
Then jumps down a cliff so I take fall damage.
Then starts crossing the river towards the desert biome on the other side or the hills that were there.
Decides on the desert.
Which has his greatest challenge after the cave; cacti.
Makes it past the first two but runs head on into the third.
That's the end of his adventure.
His sign even has tags so it should appear on the map.
@Anvildude, haha, we're at opposite ends of the map.
We could potentially run a railway that connected the two places, via a third one in the "corner" somewhere (and way-stations) -- so it's L-shaped. That wouldn't run through *too* many other people's properties, but we would need to ask for permission to do it, even if it's just a question of running a 2 x 1 rail tunnel through.

If he just resets everything except the surface stuff and all the primary places that are inhabitted that would be fine.maybe keep the diamond in all the places that we found them lol
Everything will be identical to how it was, there are just some issues with the scripts we have to run, stop and start things. I need to catch up with dark when we are both around to debug and then things can come back up.

That being said I would also appreciate if any long standing members that I trust would help me with the task of moving all my temple of terra materials to the build site from some of my various vaults. Where is the museum located anyways? As soon as I'm sufficent enough, I want to go on a server wide sight seeing trip. Looking over the map, there's a lot of awesome stuff to look at.
One of these days, we're gonna need to just go through and completely fix up the Nether- signs and proper paths and everything. Those glass covered walkways just aren't cutting it- we need solid roofes.

Nothing major. Some things didn't translate well in the server reset, and there is some minor damage to some areas. It's also still incomplete.
I'd be willing to supply resources and/or labor to fix her back up.
Anvildude wrote:One of these days, we're gonna need to just go through and completely fix up the Nether- signs and proper paths and everything. Those glass covered walkways just aren't cutting it- we need solid roofes.
I thought we went out of the way to make glass roofs. It offers protect but still gives a nice view, right?
Welcome to Nether Tours, the exciting tour throughout the dangerous world of the Nether. If you look to your right, you'll see some blood-coloured stone, some glowing stone, fire, pigmen, and a ghast. If you look to your left, you'll see more bloodstone, glowstone, fire, and two ghasts this time! Directly above us is more bloodstone and some mushrooms.
We hope you enjoyed your Nether tour, the gift shop is on your right as you leave, and contains everything from realistic Netherrack to realistic Glowstone and realistic Mushrooms, and even a Grow your own Netherwart kit.
That's what the side walls and multiple textures are for.
The paths around my and Melisia's Nether route is pretty nice looking, if I do say so myself, using iron bar walls, Nether Brick 'moulding', cobble (or Netherbrick) Ceilings and either Netherbrick, Cobble or wood plank floors- all varied up, and designed in such a way as to have an interesting structure without any danger of Ghasts spotting you in a gap and blowing half the walkway up.
My single player game's chickens are breeding too fast (started off with four chickens, and all of these are from tossing eggs!), I should finally start culling them for meat.
I admit, I've been playing SP more than MP recently. Just don't have the wllpower to do any of the massive projects I'm doing on them...
So if you're going to make a walkway without a covering in the nether, build out of cobblestone. I'm not sure about other stone variants, but cobblestone was ghast-blast proof last I checked.
Also, it really should be covered. Glass, fences, iron bars, etc don't let ghasts see through, so it's better if you cover it somehow. I'm not a huge fan of wholesale slaughter.
THIS Is my own project in that area as you can see by the excavation and crafting bench, and you would be building almost on-top of/under it, however depending on your exact plans I may be able to compromise with you.

Ah, well, I planned to build a small trading market and a few little house on top of the mountain, with a small Dwarf Village under it with a little keep.
Just made my way over to the Beanstalk, and the dwarfiness thereunder. There's now a few stacks of snow in a chest underneath. Whoever's doing that, let me know when you're usually on, and we can work on your caverns.

It's not that hard once you get used to it. You can always ask someone to get you started with resources. I'd be more than willing to give you some freebies and help you set up a base if you want.

When I first put that "feature" on, I said it was likely to be removed if it was used too much. This is a survival server. Place torches, sleep in beds, and if you don't have a bed, then hop into the nether or indoors/underground. Alternatively, log off for 10 minutes until it is day.
The problem is when there are multiple people on and some of them never get in their beds. I have no problem with making my way to a bed to make it day again, I do it all the time in single player, but multiplayer doesn't always work that way.
It's also probably worth mentioning one of the big things in the next patch is wood slabs and how they'll not only be the right colour, but they now act like wood and can burn.
Will written books be able to be stored in bookcases? Or are they just designed to take up chests for now, despite coding the bookcase to become a book storage seemingly relatively simple?

I totaly agree. It was no end of hastle trying to get everyone to sleep.
Please put it back in, unless you can implement some way to reset day once one person is in a bed.

Where has this info come from, about the books?
I can't find it on the wiki.
I know I voiced my opinion on the z's to you Dark, but I feel the need to throw my two cents in.
To me, it goes against the entire idea of a vanilla, survival server. Sure it would be hard to get everyone to sleep all at once, but when are there more than 5 people on? Not often. And even still it's not that hard to just find something to do inside or underground for 10 minutes.
It's how we did it before anyway and people don't count while in the nether or the end.
Wish the new books could go into bookshelves or that we'd get proper shelves like they have been for a while in mods.
But as it is I don't think these new books are even stackable when done at the moment. I suppose it would also be nice if you could duplicate them (harder than maps even as they aren't tied to an ID in the same way, but individually). Also no word on changes to stairs by the looks of it.
I remember the times before the Z's when there were 4-5 people online and 3-4 of them wanted to sleep because they were working outside.
They all got into bed and then there was just the problem of the one guy who was either mining and so didn't have a bed, or someone had gone AFK to either farm a grinder or to get a drink ect. I remember the rage this used to cause and how pleased I was when Shrike told me about the new command dark had added.

If it really came to be that big of an issue, I know I'd willingly sign out for a few seconds if I could not make it to a bed.

Then we found out they could just log out for a few secs then bam. Doesn't help against the AFK though, but at least the sun actually sets and rises now.

I thought elves and dwarves hated each other...
Well, yes, in principle, but if we can get others to die in caves for us, all the more win
and in exchange we'll give them wood and food
Well, my uncle's a dwarf, so I guess I should follow my heritage... plus I already have a couple of dwarf skins and built a giant dwarf statue...
I'll help with both projects, depending on who's online
I think it'd depend on whether bookshelves have been coded to store books or not. A library that contains no readable books or bookshelves would serve no real purpose.
Sure. Build it next to the bridge on the far side.
The side that's AWAY from the haunted house and preferably also somewhat away from that ugly fething maze that sky still needs to get off his lazy ass and get to work on; if at all possible, we don't want to risk the house's or the ugly fething maze's monsters blowing up the library.

For now, we could at least store them in chests while waiting for bookshelves.

I usually alternate between exploring/excavating and building large structures.
I've started three unfinished large projects and alternating between them has kept me entertained.
It might be because I don't know of anyone who would use that particular symbol at any point in text.
~ means approximately, so that might be used. The letters on their own will obviously be used. <> Can be used as brackets or some other purpose. [], {} and () can also be used as brackets.
There aren't that many symbols that can be used with a letter unless you somehow manage to make html code work with the book.
EDIT: Misread, yeah, the letters that link to them are strange.

Another note: I have planted the abbandoned farm that used to be full of cows with pine trees for the libary. I need lots of wood.
Dem and I moved to the middle of the ocean. We took what we wanted and left anything we couldn't carry behind for others to have for free. We came back a few days later and dismantled our houses to free up space.
That farm you speak of was also ours. You can have it / do what ever with it.

Don't know if it's possible, but have a rule that if half of those online at the time are sleeping, it skips night, or some such so at least a few people will have to be in bed?
also, these books will mean I'm going to be writing in minecraft a lot my life story (my MC characters, anyway), history of projects I've been in etc...
maybe write a profile of the daring deeds of justice done by pig man and pig lass...
