Okay, so I joined the server and took some screenshots and scale for the warlord titan
problem: this is going to require over 1000 stacks of stone and colored wool at the scale he is using, and i'd have to dig my whole ocean area down to bedrock O_O
so i'm going to start planning out my own, about 25% layers shorter, however I'm going to ask that everyone scale up their sheep farms and start mass donating wool, I'll start a donation area near the stormraven that drops you off near the statue.
The other issue is this thing will have to be lit up like a christmas tree, half slabs or other stupid tricks won't work, but I think that'll make it look stupid :-/
I know this is from ages ago now, but yesterday I came across another possible explanation for the "melon stalks destroyed but not the melons" problem you were having.
Light levels.
Plant some melons in a low light place and the stalks soon pop back out (the ground remains tilled). Only with enough light do they stay planted.
Were there enough/had somebody taken the torches from your farm? (or did it just go to night? etc)

Interesting, but unlikely. The stalks were outdoors and when I noticed the issue it was daytime (IIRC). Plus, the farm had been around for a long time, these weren't young stalks.
Note that I didn't see any seeds lying on the ground, just tilled earth.
Yep, but entities only hang around for 5 minutes and the day/night cycle does continue when you're not online. Example: someone takes the torches, it becomes night, stalks pop off, entities expired, it becomes day, you log in.

Put them in a chest in the wildlife area.
Also, the Public Records Office and surface level of the Archives is now built next to the libary.
The archives themselves need a huge amount of bookshelves and a large proportion of it is currently a tree farm.

It's whenever I have time (but I usually try to stick to "every two days"), however, my big desktop machine I use for rendering the map is currently in a major huff and refusing to cooperate with anything, so until I get it fixed, the map won't be updated. However, if it continues to be in a huff for too long I may just nuke it from orbit and re-install everything.

I could write a tome of the brave minecrafters who slew the EnderDragon. I was the one who got the killing blow, that might be worth writing a story about.

I'm thinking I'll start a thread should I get up to 10-ish, but it would probably be a semi-weekly thing, on a saturday or something, so I would setup the server and let it run until morning then thats it.
possibly GM/me assisted group games w/ teams or something "get to x:0 :256 z: 6000 first, GO!"
possibly competitions of some sort w/ theoretical prizes
possibly just a huge survival map city for you guys to murder eachother in
I'd need some help doing some testing on what mods run just serverside that I can use to spice things up.
I'm pretty sure we can set it so if people die they spawn outside of the arena but can still spectate (E.g. Creative but without the ability to spawn items).

yeah the map really isn't a huge deal, its not as easy as starting a map and saying "go", but if I'm going to do this I might as well go all-out.
I'd be interested but my connection is too rubbish. :( After September this year I should have super-fast fibre broadband but till then, no competitive online gaming for me...
How about teams, murdering each other, or have a crapton of zombies everywhere (on hardcore so they can bash down doors) and do a zombie apocalypse kind of thing?
shrike wrote:How about teams, murdering each other, or have a crapton of zombies everywhere (on hardcore so they can bash down doors) and do a zombie apocalypse kind of thing?
this is very inline with what I was thinking
plan1 is simply to take the map posted earlier, each player starts in middle and has 10 minutes to run away and gather gear (they get NOTHING) to start
in orbit above the map are numbers, every 15 minutes one zone is removed via fire ah-la battle royale
Hunger games would also be cool, but I prefer teamwork as it lets the not-as-good fighters get to have a decent go at it, so a few players vs a few players or all the players vs mobs sounds the best to me.
I'm trying to mount a rescue mission for Zac (on MC). I have gone to the location he said, but those specific coordinates are empty space, next to the Netherfortress. I've put some basic survival stuff (read: cobblestone hidey hole) in place in case he comes back when I'm not on.
He's been pinned down by a Ghast in the Nether, while trying to make his portal. I was attempting to mount a rescue operation, with some Fire Resist potions, but something seemed to be gitching, and his coords seemed to be messed up- or else I couldn't just see him.
Yes, sorry about all that, my computer's a piece of gak. As for why I didn't get it, when you have two hearts and are carrying your most valued possessions in a map of fire and lava, without a bow, picking a fight with a Ghast is sheer stupidity.
After fixing my computer. the Dakka Map has finally been updated. There's been a new version of the map generator and so the player icons are back! Click the "Signs" button in the top right and then tick "Players"
If you don't see the Players option, it's probably because you have a cached version of the map, try holding CTRL and click Refresh, or if that doesn't work try clearing your browser's cache (no need to clear cookies or other stuff, just the cache).
Dark, I just clicked the link in your sig, and then ctrl+F5'ed the page and I don't see the signs button. The top right just says:
'Regular' and then has a compass.

What web browser do you use? The "Signs" button has been there since the first map, so if it's not showing it's probably not a cache problem but the browser not displaying the page correctly.

Hey guys, i've been away for a while, since about 1.8. I know all about the server transfer and what not, but there's lots of new people around it seems, which is cool.
Is there any huge changes i'll need to know about before starting back onto the server?
I plan to build as far out as possible, to avoid building on someones land.
I've finished bordering 1024 x 1024 section of a world with bedrock so if anyone needs the map let me know and I will send it for the event. Who ever was going to host it let me know and I'll send the map.
Your gonna have to put in the details although I'm pretty sure people will be willing to help, right?
Personally, I want to do the 2nd but I'll let you decide.
Second one has massively more detail.

But I'm just curious what he meant, I don't really intend to trade heh.
I'd suggest that folks don't smelt their iron ore that they get. It's a nice looking block, and we can get ingots from farms now (I have a zombie grinder myself) so it's less critical to smelt the ore. I really want to use it and gold ore as major decorative parts of the Mesa if I can, and I'll trade folks ingots for ore.

Could have been a creeper and someone repaired what they could but then didn't have wood for a fence and chest? If you want me to investigate it, give me the date/time it was last ok. If your painting has been changed, it's possible someone accidentally knocked it off and then put it back (a griefer is unlikely to put the painting back...)

The fences where definately not a creeper, as they were on the 2nd floor of my house, with my 2 blocks of glowstone, well out of creeper reach
the chest, maybe.

That was me. The whole of suburbia is getting a 10 block deep gravel basement (has been in progress since suburbia started - but suburbia expanded faster than I could keep up). This basement is to make it easier for the sewers to be constructed and easier for people to work on their plots without drowning.
I can change your plot back if you preferred the water, but it won't fix the view as all surrounding plots will still have basements, so your view will just be of gravel walls...
I'm open to suggestion, so let me know how we can work this out.

For bows that's it and it's also the only enchantment they drop for it if I remember correctly. I'm thinking it is something like a level 15 enchantment; better than nothing and not making it somewhat pointless to grind to a high level for a really strong one. Personally I'd like the bow's punch moved lower so it could also appear on bows from the skeleton.

Then, while almost on my way back to start making stuff with all my treasures, and friggin zombie knocks me into lava. I realize I was going to die but was desperately trying to get onto rock so I wouldn't lose all my loot.
I manage to finally climb out of the lava while burning to death, only to have the zombie kick me in the face back into the lava, where I promptly died. And all of my items were melted!
Lol, I was cussing up a storm and haven't played since!

The map takes a very long time to generate, and an even longer time to upload (although I only ever upload the changed tiles, the total map filesize is currently ~2GB! - larger than the minecraft world itself). The wider the map is, the exponentially longer it takes to generate, the filesize gets exponentially bigger and thus longer to upload too.
I have it limited to a "nice" 2500 block radius as this covers most things without taking up too much of my time to update it.
I would probably only make the map larger if I got a faster computer (easy enough) *and* faster upload rates from my ISP (not so easy). Sorry.
