hey mxwllmdr, you cannot disspell this card! So guys dont you think that the movie spider man is gay?

Post by: Viktor von Domm

spidey...nerdy yes...gay...no...he still likes redheads... how gay could one man be if he is still into redheads?...

and did any of you ever think about the apocalypse as to be initiated due to a shortage of plasticcard world wide that led to thermonuclear warfare due to the extensive needs of dave for his projects...now that is a discomforting thought...

Sort of like this

except all the way around the table
adding another dimension to a game.

12', thats how far we are raising our table. It is a project gift for our shopowner. the whole table top is gonna be in ruins with a massive church and lots of craters. no real maneauver room for armor, either. The whole way around the table will be a sewer system that has access at four spots in the center of the table and 6 on the edge (three on each side). But since the sewer is within 12 " troops can be deployed directly to the sewers. We haven't started construction yet but we hope to in February. This thread was the idea for it. My buddy says he has rules for crossing the table in the sewers like a deepstrike already written. It is gonna be awesome.

Dst, you are using plywood? I think we were considering using blue foam and carving the poop out of it. I will post some of our drawings, if thats ok with you Dst.

I have to say that the recent conversation in this thread is making me re-think my current table and the temptation of creating an underground system (albeit on that runs along the table edge) is extremely attractive to me, especially for my 4X4 boards. I will not pretend that I'm going to start this as a project anytime soon (anyone that follows my 3 main blogs knows I'm up to my neck in "busy" right now just trying to manage those).

I'd enjoy seeing where all of this goes, I'm intrigued to see what comes of this.

@Skalk Bloodaxe your table (on page Building a Better Battlefield)
is wicked amazing. Hey, do you use Jesso on your foam pieces? And where did you get all those Necromunda templates? How exactly did you get those wicked burnt crater looks?

Sorry to go off talking about Skalks page on yours, DST, but posting on his is risking Threadomancy.

There are no rules here, this is the lawlessness thread. Skalk's and Vik's threads are similar. My plywood planks are the sturdy frame to elevate the table to allow the sewers to be put under the table edge. The walls are carved brick into foam, but it isn't strong enough to hold up a 4x4' plywood board covered in sand texture paint. I had dreams of a modular nature, but I was too lazy to get the saw out. It may still happen, I don't know. Not much will be happening in my shop now until after the holidays. You Europeans value time off more, so you take the entire month of August off, we Americans are slaves to the corporations, so we don't get that holiday month. I am just chilling until after Christmas and New Years. Too much RL stuff going on.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2011/12/14 16:36:38

Post by: mxwllmdr

Ok, I got a plan that will be sewers on the edge of the table, too.
When me and my buddy did up our plans we kept in mind that we wanted as little armor maneauver room as possible for almost the entirety of the table. So, what you can't see in the drawings is that most of the buildings are complete rubble and the side streets and alleys between them are clutter from heck and back with rubble. Hence, mostly, troops only amongst them.

I don't know if you can tell what it is going to be like but the corners at marked location A and B are going to be collapsed earth or buildings that have entrances into the sewer system. A will be like a land slide that reveals a waste water drain pipe and B is probably going to be a water treatment plant that has collapsed into itself with several large pipes leading in.
The bug looking thing in the lower right corner of the upper left drawing is a Cathredal/Church of the Imperium that I REALLY, REALLY want to model after the Cathredal Des Chartres:

We plan on the sewers looking like this:

(Thanks, btw, for that Dst)

But, after much thought, we think that the sewers should be about 9" deep from the side of the table and about 9' tall. That would allow for dreadnaughts and other taller non-mechanized armor to enter into and maneauver around.

As far as the purpose of the side sewers, the would serve to connect the table sides using the "sewers" that are outlined in dashed lines and accessible, also, at the black dots on the upper left map.

Also, our sewers would not extend onto the end of the table. The tables at our shop are butted up against a wall at the end and to have sewers you can't reach, or to risk ham-handed model handling/damage risking activity we decided to just do the sides.

We like the idea of deploying a unit directly to the sewers and rolling a difficult/dangerous terrain just too see if that unit didn't get lost in the tunnels. If they make it they can emerge exactly where planned upon entering, but if not, they wait another turn to try again. One could concievably lose a unit in the sewers for the entire game. HEHE!!!

I want some of the damage to resemble Hiroshima:

What do you think? Feasible? Impossible? Stupid?

I think you have a completely awesome idea going on here! A word of advice though, if you use Pegasus panels to build the church, watch out, I have tried this, basing mine off of Notre Dame in Paris, and to get it to look right, it will end up being nearly 4' long. This is mine, abandoned for now, but I WILL finish it someday with removable roof and all.

You might consider making some panels to cast and reproduce to make your life a little easier. (detail once... Cast a crapload... add minor detail tweaks such as posters, bullet hits, etc done... )

I made a few simple panels for building up some very basic ruins (with Hirstarts tile floors) Here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/391231.page

mate... look at the seal... it is not the =I= but the =L= of the league of extraordinary riveters... it was meant to jake for his lack of self confidence to make a rhino a suitable working defiler... he can do it if he choose to do so^^... that was my point... choas or loyal... as long as there is riveting... i am all friendly^^

Blah Blah Blah, self-confidence, yadda yadda yadda!
Ok, so maybe I could do it if I wanted to, but I don't think I could the amount of detail on it that the defiler model does before I lost interest.

Also, sorry for the League Heresy, I'll watch what I say from now on!

@ mxwllmdr- Hey, thanks for the compliments. The foam is insulating foam (Owens Corning). I didn't use Jesso, I used regular black latex paint on first coat, sprinkle some sand on it just before it is totally dry and then brush on 2nd coat, evens things out and gives it that slightly gritty look. The burnt craters are exactly that- burnt. I used a propane torch to melt the foam. I *STRONGLY* recommend doing that OUTSIDE. The stench is foul and the fumes can cause cancer in lab rats a mile away.

I got all those Necromunda plates by buying 2 sets of the core game when it came out a million years ago, plus Outlanders and GorkaMorka and eBay and who knows what else. eBay sometimes has really good deals on them, but more frequently not. The last bunch I bought were mislabeled and I picked up as part of a random lot of junk, there just happened to be 8 of these in it.

By the way... when DSG sees that you have cut up Legos for your Defiler project he's likely going to ban you for life then hunt you down and beat you mercilessly with his VW hippy bus.

I know about the Lego fetish. I defend my blasphemy by saying that they are Bionicle pieces that my children have outgrown. I do not now and have never considered Bionicles to be Legos, well, not really anyway. Not the kind that deserve respect and long term care and attention.

And you're welcome. I got into this hobby trying to build terrain in the first place and got challenged to build Titans. I really want to do a nice sewer table with a huge gothic Imperium Church (Basilica?). That's why I gravitated towards DST's threads to begin with.

I don't think I can be friends with either of you anymore. Bionicle is awesome and I have a huge collection of them with my son. I started buying them for "him" when he was 3.

Wow. Really? You guys don't like Bionicle?

That deserves another one. Shame on you both.

Don't get me wrong, I had hundreds and hundreds of hours of quality time with my sons over the bionicles but I am bitter about them because it is a direct result of bionicles that my sons never gained the love of regular Legos that I have. But if it means that much to you then I will bring you something back from LegoLand Florida when I go in October 2012.

Nice seal, btw. Don't go blaspheming against the League, though, or they will come for you.

also...i didn´t say i don´t like it... many parts looks quite cool... when assembled the whole models just look akward to me... i need more "flesh" to a model than most models provide by bionicles... it is too much seethrough for my taste... like a construction work... you assemble a model and when you are done it still looks as if it waits that you complete it...you know what i mean?

If they did release them, you could build them but would be violating IP when you mixed two sets together, and if you displayed them at your house you'd have to have a plaque w/ "IP copyright by Games Workshop, built by (your name)"

LOL, yeah, LEGO would never agree to such terms as GW would try to roll into such a deal. Could you imagine not being allowed to use LEGO bolters on any MOC except a 40k build? That would be stupid, but something GW would try.

but dave... consider this... there are no rivets with lego possible for terrain...that would be a total blow... but one could skip certainly the paintjob which would maybe make up for the lack of rivets...

And the sad thing is that building a Lego minifigs LotR army is cheaper than buying GW LotR minis!

Bought Minotaurus and two Heroica sets. Haven't played the latter, but Minotaurus is decent with a few house rules from Boardgame Geek.

YES, yes I can!
www.bricklink.com
1000 can be done, I found bark bluish grey for $0.03 each the cheapest avail in that quantity from one seller
[url]

1000=$30- but that would be a lifetime supply. I usually buy 100 at a time.

Well, as Riveting as this conversation is I have to go to work now maybe I will invest in lego next the misses will love that another hobby expense taken on.

heck i did knew that brick too... but the look...hmmm...not what i had in mind...besides... take a thin plate and you have pre riveted surfaces already...^^

my son felix just the other day ate some choclate santa... and after that he took the foil and embeded it between to said plates of lego... he thus createed the very first pressmould of riveted stuff in his young life... now that is a good development it i ever saw one^^

no haste there mate... for my kids i tend to like no delayed presents from santa anyway... my felix is very into the wholemyth stuff about santa so i don´t want to ruin the of santa by looking him to be incompetet and just loosing and refinding stuff... so when your package arrives you can be sure i tell him that it is from you...by the way.... presents from santa have always that sour feeling that you have just torn off a leg but all the credit goes to the fat man... that is quite frustrating...isn´t it

I was probably 7 or 8 years old before I realized that Mom and Santa used the same roll of wrapping paper I have friends who felt that telling their kids about santa would be lying to them, it's no big deal. By all means, tell them it is from me. Besides, Every time I go to the store, I keep picking up a few more of those mystery figure packages, so I keep getting more duplicates that I don't want. I think I can soon build an army of the sport guys I also have some of the girl Playmo figs for them. I'm sure they need a princess to rescue right?

lol... i trx to be whenever possible^^ an honest guy^^ so i will tell the truth...it is better in the long run anyway... well my son is quite sharp... so i think he wont last with the whole santa issue once he gets to be going to school... that surley will see to that end... but he loves all those little mysteries and such things...

well pricesses are needed... always^^ and lol a sporty army...now that would be a creepy thing... like a zombyfication of those and then imagine them all lurching about...lol...

also i just had the other day a leaflet...they are making a whole pink and blue new set of those bags... lol... the pink got a vampire lady and a lara croft even... and in the blue is an actual elvis and...wait for it... something that looks like uncle sam iirc...i try to make a pic of that add in the evening for ye...

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2011/12/23 14:54:24

Post by: dsteingass

I already have 3-4 of the uncle sams, I stole their beards for my Confederate army
those figs are already out here in the US, those have been what I have been buying bags of. But I haven't seen an Elvis or Laura Croft. Often, Playmobil releases different sets in the US and other countries than in Germany. I got the Collector's book that shows every set from 74-2009

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2011/12/23 19:05:02

Post by: Viktor von Domm

ah ok... well should i search for certain bags for you...? you just have to say the word mate

well of course the idea for an uncle sam could be only rooted in the US... here in german most peeps might think he is an icecreamseller^^

is it that round and curly looking beard the posh guys have or is it a longer version of the santa beard?

also...only 4 hours left till the 23. of december shifts towars the 24th...

It's the mustache-less beard, or chin beard, as opposed to the full beard and mustache like the cowboys and pirates have. I have plenty, but I would like to find more of the sideburns like the Confederate soldiers from a few years ago.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2011/12/23 19:20:37

Post by: Viktor von Domm

yep those sidebackbeards were cool...never had one of those...but definite something you should try to get!

Post by: dsteingass

I have a few of them, but they only come with the direct services Union Officer now. I have 25 Union and 25 Confederate infantry now, and I bought a whole gaggle of muskets with bayonettes from a dude in Greece on ebay. The Winchester repeating rifles they come with are a bit too futuristic for American Civil War infantry, especially the South, those boys used their own personal hunting muskets more often than any Issued weapons. I also need more variety of cowboy hats and vests and such, since most Confederates did not have a grey uniform like the movies always portray. Merry Christmas Vik!

thanks dave! i wrote a letter just the other minute for my kids from santa... he will be not getting in touch wioth them this year but he will leave his sack full of presents on our doorstep nevertheless...i have to spin the tale for them^^

as for the cobbled look of confederates... i totally agree... and iirc playmobil provides a wide range of those hats... be sure to use the occasional bowler hat or top hat too... they give such a finished look to the mixed platoons! also i totally agree yet again to the weaponswap... old flintlock muskets are a must... i bet it is the same in the movies with those MP´s the germans always carry around... that tech was so seldomly seen on the battlefield... my grandpa told me he had to actually steel from a MP (now Military police) his sidegun, to protect hinmself in a tight corner...even pistols were hardly ever seen... the average doe gets the gun that is expandable...so old hunting rifles is totally a good decision...

do you happen to know this gun type by the way:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/JAGER-WILDSCHWEINEN-BAUERNHOF-PLAYMOBIL-C52-/250908206544?pt=DE_Allesf%C3%BCrKind_Spielzeug_Playmobil&hash=item3a6b4b65d0

that could be a good addition...

and yep: i wish you a peaceful christmas my friend!

Even she is telling me I need to spend more time at my painting bench.

@ Skalk and Vik- Playmobil sells the Union and Confederate figs in Army Builder sets of three for $10, the rest were all cheap ebay scores from the past month or so. That is why they all look a bit uniform right now. This is also why I am now hunting more bitz to individualize them.

Every year they create an exclusive White Dwarf mini and then destroy the molds at the end of the year, kind of like the Games Day exclusive mini. I've been using a Windsor &Newton Kolinsky sable for a couple of years, it will be nice to add a couple more to the rotation, If kept clean, they REALLY keep their points sharp.

^^ Yeah just get painting, it will stop you waffling on about nostalgic stuff!

On a more serious note the ratskins would look really cool. But if you do delaques the colour is probably bleached bone washed with devlan mud or the ink form back then.

I need this design to scream 40k as much as the sillouette of a Leman Russ does tho, this blatant rip-off of the US OshKosh cargo truck of mine isn't quite doing it, although the front cab seems to have that 40k look (angles and such). I want the fenders (wheel wells/mud flaps) of the truck to have the same angles as the rear stabilizer bit the SM skimmer has.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2011/12/29 19:57:31

Post by: RSJake

Ah, OK, I see. Yes the back doesn't sceam 40k. Have you though about giving it tracks instead of wheels? Adding sides or completely enclose the cargo area?

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2011/12/29 20:11:44

Post by: dsteingass

Well, Dan Abnett called them "Cargo Eight" and "Cargo Ten" because of the number of wheels it had, so tracks are out I think.

My Sketches are just the flatbed versions, canvas, box, armored, etc can be added, use your imagination.

I was thinking the very same thing Vik.

the juves look nice... either do them pretty ragtagged or shiny... like they are total noobs on the battlefield and about to become cannonfodder...

the trucks look nice, but for now they don´t ring that 40k bell in me...cool trucks in my book always look like :

the front has to be that noselooking... can´t really describe that but the flat look you gone for just doesn´t do it for me... can´t hear the engines with that sketch... besides... will you base that idea on an actual truck (kit or toy) or will you...if you...built it from scratch? this would then bring me to other thoughts...

anyway... i would love to see some prodcutivity again... and i think even tho you are no bebop...your power my firend is of totally different character... you don´t create with paints... your canvas is plastic... and i think you are far better off with that productive talent...it gives way more instant positive feedback (intrinsic)

cheers, vik

Yes, Digit's stuff is top notch for sure, they are no bigger than a Chimera too, which is important in a congested Hive City. Digit's prefab tents are what made me decide to register on Dakka in the first place, I am a huge fan.

But the Cargo Eight has not been done yet, and this is my opportunity to give a definitive "look" to Dan Abnett's creations, sort of like the Venerable Dave Taylor has done with the Blood Pact. My GF and I were just looking through the toy isle, and couldn't find a suitable set of wheels, so her idea too was to just get an 18 wheeler model kit and kitbash the feth out of it, although I think I want to scratchbuild the chassis the way I want. I must meditate on this.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2011/12/30 15:03:11

Post by: dsteingass

It's all in the tip of the brush Vik, Sable brushes just tend to keep that point for longer than regular squirrel hair, and a helluva lot longer than synthetic bristles, It helps if you are psychotic about keeping your brushes really clean too!

I I always rinse them with cool, clean water (never hot- it can loosen the glue that holds the ferrule onto the handle) and then use brush soap, scrub with thumb and forefinger followed by another rinse, and then the age old habit of reforming the tip with my lips. Then they should always be stored either upright or lying flat.

The cheaper natural and synthetic brushes have many uses, like drybrushing, you never want to use your good sable brush for drybrushing!

And if you are going to use oil paints for weathering, you MUST MUST MUST have seperate Natural bristle brushes for oils, Never ever ever ever ever use synthetic brushes or the same brush for oils and acrylics- This is BAD...like crossing the streams BAD.

OH, and BTW...NEVER lick your oil paint brush either

that made me giggle^^

totally with you on the whole issue there... i think i have to order in the nearer future some good brushes as i am totally unable to get them in a RL shop somewhere remotly near me...berlin seems to be an artles place concerning that artform...

by the way, do you happen to know what the main differnce is between brush soap and normal soap? not that i want to use the regualr soap for my brushes, was just interested... the lip methode of reshaping the point of the brush... even with a bit of spit is known to me and for the ones i hold dear i use it...

er... and oilpaint is hazardous to health? never knew that....

Thanks dood! I get a little bit better on each mini, unless I am painting my Catachan Blobs, then I just don't give a crap after awhile, 5 green pants, 10 black boots, etc, etc, repeat, die of boredom

The most useful things I have learned about painting, were usually caused by my own stubborness in the first place, I refused to listen to these advices from many sources:

1. thin your paints
2. use multiple thin coats instead of one thick coat
3. keep your brushes clean
4. allow washes and inks to dry completely before even looking at the next thing

And was always dissapointed with my stuff because of it.
I am still working on my following stubbornesses:

1. mix your colors in the 1:2:1 type ratios (I hate mixing colors)
2. blend colors wet (scary, I am afraid it will turn to mud)
3. resist the urge to drybrush textured areas (it's hard, because drybrushing gives instant gratification, but like milk, spoils easily)

It is all a learning experience, be patient with yourself, practice, and keep your mistakes out where you can see them so you learn from your mistakes. That's about the best advice I can give you.

I learned to paint minis over 10 years ago from reading Dr. Faust http://www.paintingclinic.com/

Juves' looking good!

Your truck talk yesterday got me to thinking of an Ork Battle Wagon I started almost 2 years ago!

(my cutting mat has 1 inch squares to help with scale in case you wanted to know)

I never got past the chassis stage, but your diagram of the trucks reminded me about it. I kind of wanted to go for a snub-nosed Mack Truck look, but I was just not sure how to do it.

If I ever get my Guard Army off the ground, I gess I could use this chassis for a heavy truck too. Who knows!

Amigo, that is totally bad ass!! Perfect!

Today, I ordered some of Zinge's new wheels today, I was looking at the M65 Atomic cannon's prime movers wheels, and they are just way too big for the truck, but I could easily see those wheels working well! Are those from a Tonka truck?

Boy you guys have been busy took me ages to catch up on this thread I go to work and all hell breaks loose, with you on the painting techniques but it does pay and after a while you get use to doing the same thing over and over again so becomes second nature and the results pay of.

I have bought some acrylic slow drying medium to try out for blending saw a technique on the internet using this and it seemed to work well and helped with the flow of paint so fingers crossed with that, however I think I need to invest in some decent new brushes.

I have used oils before but the waiting time drove me nuts (patience is a virtue)

The rest of the gang to do yet:

Three gangers/scouts

A shammy

And for some reason, I have 2 Chiefs/Gang leaders and a mutant pet rat, which I don't see any rules for the pet in the Outlanders book.

TBH, I totally forget where I got these, I know I got them secondhand, probably about 5+ years ago. They weren't painted, but they were covered in that wierd metal corrosion/rust stuff. I thoroughly cleaned them with a dremel wire wheel, then soaked them in lysol disinfectant. The corrosion did not return after a few days, so I primed them and this is the first I've done anything with them.

white metal is able to corrode? didn´t expect that...

the right guy on the last pic i own too... thought i baught that as a sort of collectible mini off of ebay...but i expect it wont sell any better, eh?

by the way... the rat tails...are they fake or mutations...fluff wise?

and at fifty... yep...that´s what i ment...thanks for the catch^^

and well...at dave again... i imagine your guys to be sacavangers in the hive... so i think they would like to travel mostly unnoticed... so any big contrasts in their apearances might be unwanted...

as for the graininess... how far away is your cam from the minis? maybe try to zoom in on them and have the cam on a tripod? and use the timer function? also more lighting would be good too...tho i have to say... that was the first bacth of yer pics to actually sporting a white background! for that improvment^^

Yeah yeah, the top guy's eye is a little wonky, I wish I could see as well as the camera could on that one!

..Now that I got the camera to do my bidding, I can clearly see there is much more refinement I could do to these Juves, and I will, but for now, I MUST move on to gangers.

as for the eyes... just the first looks a bit mishappen...thr rest specially the eyebrows looks very good! also nice to now better see those bases... very good work there mate!

oh and about the missing eyes before... they werent missed by me... i wont paint them...too much frustration potential there... so i assumed that you would leave them as were...which was also good looking but now that way much more personality^^

Fluff-wise, I imagine they are exactly what would happen to ANY humans who were isolated from "Society" for hundreds or thousands of years, they would breed, and survive, and after a few generations, would have formed their own societies and practices. yup... seeing the chiefs and the shaman that is exactly what you just described... also they give a nice mad max vibe

Used two slices of 2mm half-round sandwiching a strip of 1mm for the pump (or fore-end)

And more tube for the magazine. I need to plug the magazine tube with something yet and carve finger grips in the wood.

Thanks a lot Max and Farty!

Let's see if we can build another shotgun in the same fashion:

Rectangle curved at one end for the shotgun body, and a piece of tube notched

The first slice of magazine tube glued on

two slices of half round and a slice of rectangle

Made into a sandwich

clamped in a vice, and using only the width of a saw blade to create the grips

More magazine tube

Magazine cap plugged with rivet rod.

And slice the rear end of the barrel at an angle like so to complete the look.

And here is the other angle.

..Which I will now demonstrate by trying to build a wooden stock for the shotgun:

2 scraps of 1mm styrene

glued together (I used superglue here to expedite the build)

Sketch on your stock design

Clip and cut the rough shape

Use a flat and round file to smooth everything out

With a bit more notching action, the stock and shotgun are joined

Size comparison with lasrifle

Here I have sketched the area for the shell ejector

and gouged it out with a drill bit, knife and file

and penciled in the hole so you can see it in the pic

Some paint

Not perfect, I gougued the shell ejector on the wrong side of the body.
So this is a "Left Hand" model shotgun
But I didnt research at all, I just built this from memory or the warp, or whatever.
but really quite a decent basic pump shotgun for a lucky ganger eh?

Do you ever take a break Like the idea for the shotgun will borrow that for my orks if you don't mind and thanks for sharing, the how to was great easy to follow and crystal clear great work. I like the idea of the left hand shotgun my grots were all issued with left hand screwdrivers they keep them next to their glass hammers I still think the juves need warpaint but they do look great have you the Brakar ratskin mini the hero holding a massive stubber that figure is amazing you must have it.

Oh wow! I have never seen him. I didnt know that Ratskins could have Heavies! Is he a Special Charachter perhaps? All I have are the original Necro rulebook & Sourcebook, and the Outlanders book. I also have the re-released Necromunda Rulebook. In the Outlanders book, they only list Chief, Shammy, ratskins, and braves. Very cool though.

Here is the first Ganger of the New Year! Sans the basing- I will do all three Gangers bases at the same time to maintain some painting rythym- yesterday, Vik's shotgun idea distracted me a little bit Time flies when I grab knife and plastic

wow...ok steady here... first things first...

a)
that new ratskin looks super! if the eyes here are a mishappen, i would still leave them as is, they look somehow to me like warpaint or that stuff footballers use to balcken their eyes for contrast ...really great mini...

as for heavys... i thought since you could equip your gangers for necro anyhow you like so each group should have the possibility to have heavys...

and then the shotgun.... well let me say i had to instantly show my wife your tut... and i do show little of the contens of dakka to my wife to avoid those sheepish grins you might get from her...:( but with that work of yers i just had to risk that^^

i am very proud of you! what a great gun! and i second the idea to massproduce HER^^ lovley piece of massdestruction!
in the fullness of time i really have to give that idea a try myself... but! that leaves me with another idea... now you could make other nice guns too...like to create a weaponsrack full of different guns? a cool scenery piece as a objective marker...just a thought!

happy new year mate... and a great shout out to your grandpa for this tradition^^ which you fully well followed in your own fashion!

cheers, vik

The heavy is Brakar the Avenger, an old special character. He's a 'first generation' ratskin modle, so you're right about that.

Yeah Vik, the ideas are endless. It's funny, when I was a kid, I used to build wooden guns with scrap lumber very much in this same fashion Thanks man, the eyes will all get fixed at the end of the bunch, I just need to move on through the gang, or I will never get done before I get sick of painting figs for awhile

@Khaine- Thanks man, I'll have to be on the lookout for him at the dig booths at Gencon or some other show.

well i built a double barrel shotgun for my kids from wooden scraps...some things are just meant to be built^^

don´t get me wrong... the eyes of the last ratskin i really like...leave them alone^^

and yep...that is pretty much what is keeping me from finishing squads in the first place...burnout by overdoing too many mini in the same fashion over and over again...

I thought he was I wanted him to convert for a predator (the original) type squad can you guess what he was going to be and that is not mine it was just a picture I found of the net.

Squad is coming on nicely you even inspired me to blow the dust of my model room and get set to paint I only need to find some time now took me all bloody day to sort it out you don't realise how much stuff you have I was like wow I have one of them and 3 of that and o look at that over their time to set myself to work I think

You should make some flintlock type pistols for those Ratskins to go with the muskets I made one once for my ork pirate dok turned out well and looked great never got painted mind but hey you should do that they would look bad ass

No, the only wash I used was badab black, mostly didi's magic brown ink (just like GW's old brown ink) All my leather starts with bestial brown, all the wood starts with scorched brown.

What color should tyhr shells be? I am thinking red, with brass caps? Or do they need to contrast even more? Yellow maybe?

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/01/01 22:32:04

Post by: Viktor von Domm

if you want a special sort of amo then you could go another color...maybe even blue...but for me shotgunshells will forever be in bold red with brassed caps...that is the style of freedom^^

Meh, I'm afraid this here is the best I can do, I think I painted too thick in this area, some of the detail seems missing. I just hope it gives the general idea of a half-crazy Shaman, fond of the drug "Slaught". He carries both his massive ceremonial club and shotgun to ward off evil hive spirits (the shotgun is the more effective tool, but I wouldn't argue with him if I were you )

Honestly, I have NEVER researched this figure, I assumed it was a ratskin, but it is really a Wyrd Beastmaster. http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/index.php/Necromunda_1995_-_1997_-_Collectors_Guide#1997_Redemptionists

I am not familiar with the Ratskins, but this is some cool work, Dave. I love the club the shammy is holding. Is there anything saying that CSM can't take a shotty? Or would that be a counts as? I have used shotties as a primary weapon in two theaters for building clearing. I think some optional rules debate is in need on this one. Thinking, maybe, Khorne berserkers are looking pretty plain....

The ratskins are looking great but you need to get the red on the shells brighter it makes a statement and they will give the model a lift in colour IMO …..

hell yeah dave! that is the look! that flintlock pistol, again you raise the level...gosh...now for something heavier... how about some old WWII british MP´s? or for that mater a british heavy machine gun? that cold float well with the ratskins or generally with necro armour needs...or mine come to that^^

the coat of the ratskin looks without a doubt highly beautiful!
the gun looks this close a bit frosted as if the drybrush was too heavy on that...which puzzles me, cause it sure doesn´t look drybrushed to me at all...maybe a slight coat of badabblack to cover that up? otherwise...love those ratteeth...lol very cool looking!

by the way... wouldn´t mind a bit of a revelation for the flintlock...could suit my fellas pretty well too...^^

Thanks guys, the flintlock pistol was jut a whim, I don't really have anything in mind for it, it was just sort of a proof of concept thing (too see if I could do it). I just looked at this site http://www.redriverrenegades.com/bp_pistols%20&%20revolvers.htm
And started to carve a body out of plastic. The brass workings are just pieces of PE brass sprue hacked up with clippers. Maybe I will make more of these, I dunno, I don't really have too much of a need for these, as I still have several flintlock pistols left from ole Empire or Mordheim bitz.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/01/02 15:58:11

HAHA, I guess so, that was actually the second one, for the first, I tried to carve the butt cap in the handle of one of the more ornate models, but that work proved to be too small with an x-acto, I sliced my thumb a bit , and I got the angle of the handle wrong, because I was trying to do it in two parts.

As you can see, the brass lock is a bit fiddly to file too, very small, and I broke it in half. I need to find a better/easier way of making the lock/hammer.
But it was fun. The shotgun is a much easier gun to make than this.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/01/02 16:47:13

Post by: dsteingass

THe dremel would certainly work vik, but it is more of a problem with planning it out so that you have a solid way of holding the piece securely while you are working on it. My little bench vise is really too big for this kind of work, I need something like needle nose pliers that lock or could be tightened to hold firm. That brass sprue is super thin stuff. I would need to carve out the curvature from a solid piece while holding onto somethig solid. In time, I'm sure I will play with it more.

For steampunk vik, wouldn't you rather have WW1-type Vickers water-cooled machine guns? That should be easily creatable with the tubes I sent you

Dammit, I have now come down with a nasty cold. The Shammy is 1/2 done, only the Gang Leader completely unpainted yet. After these, it is just a matter of basing and touching them up. Sooo close to having my first ever full real GW gang painted too. It's about time, I've used Catachans a Orlocks for what, 10 years now
