It seems that fall damage has changed a bit. Where you could jump off a two high wall and land without damage, you now take half a heart... A new bug or was this normal?

Somebody has posted it on the Bug list, so you're not alone. It noticed it too, but it didn't always happen. Seemed to happen when I wasn't expecting but not when I tried to reproduce it Pesky bug.
Well corpsesarefun if you want a more detailed description then here it is. you go into the nether at the spawn portal. then you go down the corridor where the sign says titan and when you see the next portal go behind it there should be a sign saying some peoples names and LOUGEY's house. then you go down this corridor until you see a spiral railtrack in the floor then go down this then follow the railtrack to a path. then follow the path to a room that has a downwards staircase and go down all the steps and along a corridor and into a portal...you are now at his house.

A quicker and better description would be...
Go to skyslashers portal, walk past it, follow that path until you get to a sign saying LOUGEYS house. Go down those stairs, enter the portal. Done
Here is a free resorce mine for everyone to use on the dakka minecraft server. If you go along the path level to the spawn point and not turn right you will see a volcano and some stairs. If you go up these stairs you will see a sign with an arrow on it. turn to the direction of the arrow and go along the cobblestone path to a small building where their is a inside farm and a spiral staircase going down. go down the staircase to the mine and make sure you read the sign that says DO NOT MINE! i heard water there feel free to take any resorces that you find
It is the small building by the dakka craft sign which is along the path level with the spawn point and you go straight forward and head towards the top of the volcano (there are steps) and it is signposted as orkdestroyer1 (next line) mine (next line) =======> and just follow the cobblestone path.
orkdestroyer1 please use coordinates when your wanting to direct people to places. Place shifty + F3 in game to display them (ie they're listed as X, Y, Z, plus a load of numbers, only the first three matter). =P
The volcano is right next to the lava tower on the hill next to the dakka craft stone sign.....it is not the lava tower i use the same steps to get to mondo's lava tower on the hill and signs will direct you from there.
Co-ordinates would be more useful to be honest... That said, i'm never gonna go there so it doesn't particular matter to me... Though the 'No mining' sign still has me curious...

That sounds pretty close to spawn, alot of the land around sppawn has already been claimed, so please be careful you don't mine someone elses mine.
Dont worry someone has a better mine somewhere else that shares it with me and they give me free stuff and the nether will freeze over first before i see you do that.
I have 4 or 5 Ravines next to each other to mine from, along with a Mooshroom farm. We get that you're eager to help others, but honestly it's best to try and do something else besides telling us repetitively about how your mine is open to all users. The vast majority of us have our own sources of materials.
orkdestroyer1 wrote:Dont worry someone has a better mine somewhere else that shares it with me and they give me free stuff and the nether will freeze over first before i see you do that.
Yeah Loguey says he wants you to stop building on his roof...
I think he has a problem with you using his mine all the time as well but i forgot to ask him about that...
orkdestroyer1 has been building on my house without permission, i know it was him because he is the only one at my base regularly without permission. He was down my mines when i was offline and he left signs saying he was there, but the damage was not done when i was online yesterday so i suspect it was him, I want him away from my dwellings and mines!
I plead guilty as I was bored how about some diamond to you LOUGEY.
(I thought greifing was nicking items and destoying stuff)
(I write shorthand)
(I only destroy orks in 40k)
(I prove my point and I am not trying to be unfrendly)
is there anyway i can make up (I promise I will not build on someones land without permisson and it would have tidier if 2 creepers didnt blow up)
Everyone is annoyed...
Proper spelling and grammar is one of the lesser rules to the Forum.
And you keep going on about the mine which no one wants to use. We all have our own stuff.
Like I said it would have been neater if two creepers didnt blow it up and I was going to remove it but I forgot. And I only know basic information on greifers...they destroy and steal stuff.
I am sorry for any inconvenience caused.
And I am not walking 15,000 blocks away from the spawn point and I will not mention the mine again.
orkdestroyer1, you were warned from the start not to build on others property. However, as you have apologised that's a good start. I'd recommend you remove your structure from LOGUEYS' place and then we will call it case closed.
The world is infinite, you don't need to buy any land from Bloodhorror/Janje or anyone. Just find somewhere unoccuppied and do as you please there. It doesn't even have to be miles away, there's unoccupied land all over the place.
As for the rest of you, there seems to be a lot of major overreacting and lynchmobbing and I don't understand the levels of bile in this thread lately. I am dissapoint.
There's forests, hills, tundras, tundra forests, jungles, deserts, lakes, oceans... so much for you to claim . If you want to work on someone else's property, obtain their express permission to do so. But going somewhere unclaimed-- and no, this does not mean building a giant tower just outside of someone else's home-- requires no permission. For example, if you want a plot on Suburbia (here) you would have to ask me, and obey the rules I put forth in the first house on the right corner (The one where the two bridges meet).
You might ask anyway just to be polite, however, like I do whenever I want to claim a terrain feature.
I juse wrote LOUGEY a PM saying that if I can mine/hang out with him I will make him an offer that includes a bodyguard and a personal butler.
Are these good offers or not?
(If you have a better one post one on this thread.)
Well LOUGEY is a really nice person as today he gave me a full set of iron tools and really he is a nice person in all and I just want to hang out with him/mine with him and i want to make him an offer so that I can still do that. (there are more offers though when I PM'd him.)
You can do that with your own house. Mining together is boring, but going on adventures is good, i.e. when me and n0t_u went out to acquire some Mooshrooms. 4 of the buggers ate each other, but it was good fun...
Yeah but his mine is more than beast as I found 5 gold and 6 diamond in two hours and I am a kind person to people. But with LOUGEY I screwed up with him and all I want is forgivness from LOUGEY.
4oursword wrote:What is the best route to the End? I cannot find Wolf's place at all, and I've got lost in Absolutionis's house twice now :(
^^ I've placed signs in his fortress since the last time you got lost there. Go to his dining hall, and there's a stairway down to his stronghold there.
Oh and again, Absolution, if you have any issue with the signs to the End portal there, they can be removed at will. =)
orkdestroyer1, establish yourself in the game first before you start asking if others want some help with what they're doing. I mean most people will ask themselves first if they're needing an input, not the other way around. Doing things like building/mining around existing stuctures (ie your mine right by the Dakka Craft sign for example) is noted as something that shouldn't be done on the guide to the server. =P
All I want is forgiveness from you LOUGEY as I screwed up and I shouldn't have built the small tool hut where it was and I shouldn't have ruined your house and all I am asking you LOUGEY is forgiveness for what I had done and if you give me that I will give you lots of suff.
Please forgive me.
Now seriously I am not in a right mood to argue about this but why do you think that I am an overly attached girlfreind when you can see that I am in a bad guilty mood......hmmmm I might reprt you...
All you care about bloodhorror is yourself you dont care if someone is hurt by a comment and I perfectly know who you are.....your a BULLY

I apologise for this not being relevant to mine craft dakka, as I can only play on the Xbox *sad face* but ttghis last page had me laughing so hard that people on the ferry boat looked at me... especially the over attached gf meme.
To me there is no such thing as overreaction.....all I do is prove a point
Also have a flick though page 444 and see what kind of state I am in (a guilty one) and see how bloodhorror reacts to it.
It is just another day on dakka.

If you could get banned for not caring how a post affects other people i would be so banned by now...
I laughed so hard at the last page I woke my family up through two closed doors.
Funniest thing I've read on dakka for quite some time.
back OT, I doubt I'll be on much, at least for a while. No particular reason, mostly just lack of things to do on it. Plus as Corpses said a while back, I can't easily go back to vanilla after hours of Tekkit

Well played sir
Don't let it stop you joining in anyway, this is meant to be a general MC thread after all. It's just because most of us are on the Dakka server that it seems to gravitate towards that more.
4oursword wrote:What is the best route to the End? I cannot find Wolf's place at all, and I've got lost in Absolutionis's house twice now :(
Abso's house is the best way. Going out of the portal go up the stairs to the ground floor, turn left. Walk until you run out of house, if you went straight you should see a glass tube thing and stairs leading down. Take the stairs.
Corpsesarefun wrote:Dude, just go out and build your own stuff
Having "body guards" and "butlers" in minecraft just doesn't work
Yes it does, it's what I tried to do gave up then built my own. It works if you build them.
Now I have to go out and get much more popcorn to share for today's episode. This might just become my show.
Where B = any form of rock or ore, E = empty space, C = center of the mine, where you have a 2x2 spiral staircase leading up to the next level. This design allows almost every block at the level to be revealed, is easy to navigate, and etc. It can continue on ad infinitum if you want, although I usually stop at fourty to fifty blocks out from the center.
I know the best way to find diamonds
1: Find all four corners of a chunk
2: Dig out the top layer of the chunk
3: Dig out all the chunk
Easy as pie....but I am not going to do it.
No, that's pretty much the worst. Mel's got a good system, and if you just make tons of corridors criss-crossing each other with a space of 2 blocks inbetween them, you've got a good chance.
My system almost minimizes how much you need to dig in each layer to reveal every single block ,AND it has a central area for storage and crafting areas. The center can always be expanded upon to make more room for storage as you run out of chest space.
There wa a system that actually minimized it completely, but it was a bit annoying to make, I prefer mine. My pinwheel design is meant for mining at Y=10 to Y=20 or so, above the level where the most magma spawns, but still within the level where diamond and etc spawns, allowing one to maximize gain while minimizing hassle, due to how easy the design is to replicate.

I just built a house right next to LOUGEY's house but not on his land. And there is an epic cave (not LOUGEY's) under my epic base.
Bloodhorror knows where it is and he says it is on LOUGEY's land when it is NOT!
(please no arguments bloodhorror.)

Orkdestroyer1, please remember the guidelines from the FAQ:
Try not to build too close to other people's structures without their permission. This is especially true now that the nether can be used to travel large distances in a short time.
Do not make large mines anywhere near anyone's property, without their permission. You will almost certainly end up in an existing mine. Again you can now travel vast distances much quicker and there is plenty of space in the world.
As I said before, the world is almost infinite. There is plenty of space to build without annoying people. I was willing to accept your earlier discretions as honest mistakes, but this is beginning to look like deliberate antagonising, possibly even passive-aggressive griefing.
Please find a different location for your base. You can find similar or even better caves anywhere.
I offered to build him a good 200 blocks away from L0GUEY so he can continue his creepy obsession and not piss people off by being RIGHT next to them all the time.
n0t_u wrote: Could have kept it the same in case they ever change it again. Wouldn't hurt anything anyway.
Oh, I didn't change my old one. This is the new plan for any new enchanting rooms I make.
The RS area is a bit claustrophobic, but it works quite well. I'd probably make it 13x8x13 with the interior room having an extra space of headroom to prevent the library itself from being claustrophobic though.
Also too much work. The old one, which is like 21x12x21 or so, works just fine and is so deep underground (about fifteen above bedrock) that it doesn't get intrusive anyway.
also, I never really got the point in adjustable enchantment rooms. Complex, expensive and pointless.
that in of itself isn't reason enough not to do it, but there are more fun things you can build with similar time, knowledge and materiel
n0t_u wrote: I suppose a larger one would look better anyway.
oddly enough.. no. The bigger one looks much worse than the smaller one.
It's hard to fit in that fourth wall of bookcases, hide the redstone and pistons, and still be able to access the enchantment room. Only needing to do three walls instead of four allows for a MUCH more aesthetically pleasing room.
It'd actually be a little bit more complicated if I did the pistons withdrawing the bookcases in to the ceiling/floor instead of moving back/forth.
As it is, I basically have two banks of the following in my three wall design:
Where B = bookcase, E = empty space,, P = sticky piston, R = repeater, D = redstone dust.
Along with a small line leading from below the lever to a tiny staircase leading to each bank, it is extremely minimal in terms of space, both vertical and horizontal.
I COULD do a ceiling design, but I admit that I really loathe buildings that are two spaces high, it's claustrophobic.
As do I. It'd sort of defeat the purpose somewhat if the building had a floor three blocks high or whatever and then a 5-6 block ceiling. You could also probably even cut down on that design if you wanted to save materials, though I think it may take up a little more space so not all that worth it.
Or if you like me then go SP and have redpower to then have frames push/pull bookcases as needed.
Frame are very nice items, I just wish that I could set up a decent MP server(I dont want to use tekkit/technic pack) with all the mods I would like to play with my partner. But I shall make do for now.
By the way shooms, thanks for the zombie xp farm in your area (right above that bridge in fact). It'll help me get my vine-plant farms going nicely, and help me build up a nice stock of wheat too.

Waits a while for the map to update, finds its been done just before I made my wall and thus I'm going to have to wait another two days until I can see how much more I need to build. =(
Ha ha, well if you're good I might just update it tonight. What used to be a several hour process on my old pc now takes about 15 minutes on my new one (although uploading it still takes just as long).

Also, in future, do I have permission to build into the marsh and rivers in the area of -1189, 1345? I don't see myself needing the room in the immediate future (ie till my wall is done), but I'd rather expand in that direction than into the hills closer to Purplefood's and Winterhold, or the desert closer to Spectreoneone, so as not to cause any interference.
And just wondering, anyone know who lives here (-791, 1336), or if its even still inhabited?
I don't get it. It appears to be a link to a place off the edge of the map and so it's blank? Also it's not as far out as some people have already gone...

There's a sign there for the mysterious Ender Cactus. Clearly a world ending event.
No, they're still there. But they generate much more normally now. Still, you get immense lag and world/biome generation is a bit off.

But unfortunately, it can't be updated to 1.3. Hook malfunction, or something. You can't dual wield anymore. 1.2.5 still works.
Far Lands. The edge of the map. A little over a year ago a trip there was cancelled because apparently going out that far generates huge lag, though I did talk to Dark about it last week and he said it wouldnt be a huge issue, other then making the map file bigger which wouldn't affect our side of things. But like I said, I'm on a Terraria bender, so ya'll have about a week to figure it out lol.
No, I said heading out further into the world wouldn't be an issue.
Heading out to 3000000 (or whatever the far lands event horizon is), is an issue for various reasons:
1) Why would you waste your own time like that?
2) Just do it in Single Player where you can delete the world when done
3) Just do it in Single Player with cheats enabled so you can type /tp 30000000 job done.

When you generate chunks, they stay there taking up disk space. While this is fine for people playing the game and exploring (even those heading out to 25000 etc), generating the amount of chunks necessary just to visit a 3000000 boundary that you can see in Singleplayer or Youtube videos is frowned upon (may be an understatement ).

Eh, I'm ok with it. It's a desert (which most people seem to avoid anyway) and the amount of effort to surround the entire biome is enough to earn it I think.
Well, here's a render of it (or the West wall at least). Fiddled about with water some more, and also figured out Field of View settings, just hope I didn't overdo it on this one.
After being hounered by dark with a render of my walls I thought I might say a few words;
Spoiler:
This wall started life as a simple project, to make out my boundaries and keep pesky players out. The design started in paint with a rough outline, then it was submitted to dar to make sure It was allowed, after approving the project I had to make up a suitable wall design. I played in creative for about 5 minutes trying to think up something, but was unsucsessful. I looked at the walls absolutionistuses for his concentration camp village and decided they were too fancy, then I found his image and decided to make similar walls, however I modified them for my own needs and the walls stared to spring up along the south boundary, the towers were my own creation, a simple design to be dotted along the wall. unfortunatly however, not knowing of cobble generators, I quickly ran out of cobble, as I had just finished the shroom biome road, and consturction ground to a halt shortly before the south gate. wood also became a problem, I was consuming vast quantities for the platforms and charcoal tomake the square-stone-bricks, and soon I was begging all over the server for spare cobble.
Eventually I managed to get a sizeable farm started, and production started again, but alas it has stopped again, this time as my will reserves are empty, and I can't be bothered at the moment to finish the wetern and northern sections, which are about the same length again.
@ Spectreoneone, mind building in the other direction? I mean the sign by that sand quarrying hut there might say its the end of my lands, but youknow, its politeness and all not to build withing 15 blocks of it. =/
I don't, LegoBurner and Yak do. It's hosted on Dakka servers that do other Dakka-ey tasks (not on a Minecraft hosting company). This is the main reason we don't run mods, don't want any wayward or badly coded mods interfering with important Dakka operations.
Well I dunno. But I'd imaging the costs of running server(s) for a large image-heavy forum website are a bit different to the costs of running a Minecraft server (different requirements, optimizations etc).
For example, you might not mind if your Minecraft server goes down every night for an hour at 5am if it's only you and your friends playing and you're usually in bed around that time, but a website host usually wants a (more expensive) more reliable uptime.
Also the Dakka forum (currently) says "There are 6,577 online users". Yes those aren't constant connections required by a Minecraft server, but they will be frequent and it's a lot more overhead than a 20 person Minecraft server.
tl;dr; The Dakka Minecraft server is probably far more expensive than regular Minecraft servers, but it's because it does other tasks. You'd be better off asking another server admin that does use Minecraft specific hosting.
It'd also be balanced out with advertising, DCMs, etc.
I think most normal servers would start at about $3-5k, not MC of course. Look around it'll probably only be something like $~100 per year, probably even less, to get from the companies that are undoubtedly out there providing such service. Figures are rough guesses, can't be bothered with the research.
Oh, yeah, that IS my village, because I placed that sign.
Basically, an Enderman placed a cactus there. Next to a wall. Hence the 'unatural' part.
Next time I'm on the server I'll get screenshots for ye.
Actually, it is kinda funny as there were 2 endermen, both holding cacti. 1 placed it down infront of him and commited suiced, the other placed it next to the wall before teleporting off
No, farlands is a place in minecraft that takes about 820 hours of solid walking to get there. When you do, it lags like gak and generates oddly; the world is being stretched to it's limit. It begins at about 12550820 blocks out. At 30000000 blocks out chunks still generate, but they're false. You fall straight through them, as if they weren't there. Walking up to the farlands generates so much lag, more often than not Minecraft just decides to die right there and then from calculation overload. Side effects of the farlands are: Jumpy or stuttering movement of the map. This begins to occur at about +/- 500000, but it's almost unnoticeable. Items on the ground will fail to update "on time", making them seem as if they travel alongside you. Severe lag and framerate drop. In 1.6 the average was 2fps. I tested it. Not a good idea. It corrupted minecraft after crashing twice. Falling sand and gravel entities from the farland's generation worsen lag. Mob's pathfinding will begin to fail. This is worse than you think. Terrain that looks so wierd it's alien. But it is interesting to note lag does not really occur in the nether farlands. So you can wander round there without much trouble. And ghasts are nearly impossible to find due to cramped space. But now they crash minecraft. Backdate and single player commands if you want to have a look. The Skylands is a planned dimension. Notch hinted he may still add it. You only visit it in your dreams, and when you die there you wake up. So you can throw yourself off the side, to get back to the overworld (normal dimension). There's some prototype coding in beta 1.6 and 1.7, so you can use some mods to get there. Here's a pic of the farlands before beta 1.8. Quote: Upon reaching the farlands the game becomes almost completely unplayable, due to the sheer amount of lag generated by the calculations minecraft has to perform at this point. This is usually caused by an incredibly high mob spawn rate, and as another side effect of the farlands is floating point integer delays and errors, their pathfinding becomes much more erratic. If this doesn't convince you going to the farlands is a VERY BAD IDEA, I don't know what will. Still, a race to 1,000,000 or so would be fun. Farlands expert here.
While we're copy/pasting the wiki in here, I'll do it too
In 1.8, instead of the Far Lands starting to generate at 12,550,820 meters from the center of the map, the playable area abruptly ends at 30,000,000 meters
The ability to dye leather armor different colors.[55]
16,777,216 potential colors.
Put dyes and armor in the crafting grid to apply different dyes.
Item tooltip will then display "Dyed" in the right color.

Wolf collars will be dyable.[57]
Buttons will be activated by arrows [58].
Added Corner Stairs.
Would have liked it to be all types of armour, but I guess leather makes sense. Also cauldrons have a use now besides making smaller compact sinks/toilets.
I notice you've been updating the map more often. Next time you update, that road there will be finished and there will be cows and some more watchtowers around my area Well at least one, might be a second depending on how long you wait before updating.
That's actually a misnomer. Jeb said he was working on them but said "not sure about this" because of how they reacted when there were 3 or more stairs around them.

I've been chucked from the server four times today, had ridiculous lag, and once drowned whilst standing on dry land. ...Odd things happening in Dakka land...
And since my lappy's 1.5ghz single core processor can't handle running an internal minecraft server very well, I actually run smoother on multi than single player heh.
