Ooh, never played Tekkit before, but I guess this is good a time as any to start. ...Nobody burn my house down in it because I'll probably not know how to make any fancy uranium reactors or quarries. (This bloody laptop better be able to run the launcher)
* Distracting me just as I make some progress on my vanilla server house. =(

Then It would work but said I needed forge (I did have tekkit selected, I checked that)
so I've deleted it, reinstalled it and I'm gonna try again.
Ah ok, thought you meant something server side was broken, especially as you seem to have gone off the edge of the map and made me realise I have some map setting wrong there. (Working on fixing it).
Tekkit 3.1 is Minecraft 1.2.5, so you get all the old Minecraft 1.2.5 bugs back again... :/
I had the same issue. You need to go into the options tab on the launcher (ie the one where you log in) and clear the cache. Afterwards mine worked fine.
Also found (no fault of the server probably) that the ranged function of the philo stone breaks sometimes. Managed to transform a creeper once then it wouldn't work again. Also accidentally turned a couple of hills to stone and back.

yeah, I was exploring, I wanted to see how big the ocean was, It's pretty big.
The only thing is if you go past the 3k map limit (I presume it's a limit) it starts renderign the map all grey and ugly.
Here's something that I think should be placed as a 'rule'. No-one smelts any ore without first Macerating it. There should be a Spawn Macerator facility to help with this-
The reason is that as far as I know, the IC and BC ores (and the others, too) are not replicatable with EE (though possibly they are with Thaumcraft, if that's enabled- I'll have to check), and so will quickly run out if people continue using them in non-reclaimable ways (i-e, machine making). Also, Drills and Chainsaws as soon as possible, to help with the not wasting.
I'm claiming this bay, And I mean the actual bay itself, anybody can use the tundra/jungle shores, however I'd like the green shore where I am for myself.

and if people mine out their area, sucks for them, they can't mine the whole world so they'll have to trade

That's the thing. Macerators are easy to make, and double the amount of a non-renewable resource. Yes, they might mine out their area- but then they'll just start Quarrying elsewhere, or using Destruction Catalysts, or Dark Matter tools, and Divining Rods, and Mineral Concentration Detectors (or whatever the IndustrialCraft one is) and start getting more minerals, all the ores, without needing to strip-mine. Tekkit is much more resource intensive than Vanilla minecraft, and people will be using and gathering more resources faster and more efficiently, with fewer pockets left nearby, so that eventually the area for thousands of blocks around Spawn will be bare of anything usable, and everyone will be living off CobbleGenerator-fed Condenser food!

Darkinnit's post does say that if you're already whitelisted for the vanilla server then you'll be the same on the Tekkit one, though the same goes for bans.
The Schellan's Valley Corporation has been established! (not to be confused with Shell Oil). My valley is marked by 2 signs for now until further development.

Might be worth it, to help avoid confusion and just keep things tidier. There'd still be people who post in the wrong thread of course (see the whitelist thread ). I'll go type one up (or just copy and paste most of my 1000th post).
I'll post this in the tekkit thread once it's up, bu we should claim enderchest colours, so people don't accidentally link chests... You should be able to claim the first 2 colours... so like I'd like to claim blue-blue chests...
some people manage to miss the sticky thread and ask for whitelists here, and even manage to miss 500 pages of MC related stuff to answer the original question.
keeping to a thread per server? Definitely wishful thinking, though we can give it a go
Minecraft 1.4 comes out tomorrow. As usual I'll check on the intertubes for any problems other servers are having and test it myself too. Once I've found it to be stable enough, I'll upgrade the Dakka survival server. They usually have a stable version by the weekend (although 1.3's portal issues did take a bit longer to fix).
If you want to play on the Dakka survival server in the meantime, don't upgrade to 1.4 until the server does too.
Automatically Appended Next Post: UPDATE:
If anyone wants to try out the 1.4.1 pre-release AND help me test it at the same time, if have set up a temporary 1.4.1 pre-release test server on:
www.darkinnit.com:25575
(you need to type the :25575 after the address).
I can't test it till this evening, but it's up and running now if anyone wants to join, mess about and report any crashes or other problems. Same Dakka whitelist.
It's running the Dakka world for testing, but any changes you make won't affect the normal Dakka Minecraft server and won't be saved when I discontinue it later.

Put the owner on a small fortified island with loads of people with infinity bows, full diamond armour, diamond swords and instructions to kill anyone who comes ashore (just like what the english did with napoleon bonaparte) (I think)
Well, since barely anyone has been online, myself and janje made a railtrack to my endergrinder, which is pretty quick travelling 200 blocks over the void.
The main reason so few people have been on the main server is because of the tekkit server. Eventually ,somepeople may ver ywell move back to hte default server. I've been alternating myself, more or less.
Anyone got any idea why a portal at my place would instead connect nether side to Wyrmella's village portal which the village is at least 1000 blocks away on the overworld side. It's kind of puzzling.
VikingScott wrote: Anyone got any idea why a portal at my place would instead connect nether side to Wyrmella's village portal which the village is at least 1000 blocks away on the overworld side. It's kind of puzzling.
Make sure all four portals match up to their correct coords.
So find the coords of your portal in the overworld (use F3).
Divide the x and z coords by 8, keeping any positive or negative value.
Some people say you should keep the y coord the same and some say that should divide by 8 too. I've only ever noticed the y coord making a difference when the portals are very close (same chunk).
Take the coords you've got from diving them by 8, and make sure your netherside portal is a that exact location in the nether (build one there if you don't have one).
Sometimes this can mean building a walkway/room out over a lava lake.
If you're still having problems, repeat the above for the other overworld portal, but don't modify it without contacting the owner first.
At this location http://www.darkinnit.com/dakkamap/#/482/64/694/max/0/0 there is a weird...thing. Its about 10, 15 blocks across I think, and just goes straight down. Its a gigantic chasm I guess, leading off under the mountain. I've set up a little base in it to explore, but if it belongs to someone I'll break it down and move out. Otherwise I'd like to claim a bit of it to get the materials in there to continue on my mountain.

Is it a ravine? Kind of like this (nice cross-section here):
http://www.darkinnit.com/dakkamap/#/2952/64/1802/-1/0/0 Ravines are naturally spawning features, so as long as you don't come across any man made structures or signs of exploration inside it, it's probably unclaimed.

Since the release of the Pretty Scary Update we’ve been super-busy trying to fix as many reported issues as possible. We’ve now reached the point where we’ve fixed so many that we spend more and more time wondering “haven’t we fixed that already?” and “I wonder if this will break anything else…” In other words, it’s time to look forward to a new official update!
The changes since 1.4.2 is:
Over 100 issues fixed, full list here: 1.4.3 issue list Noteable: The missing song “where are we now” is now available, but called “wait”
Noteable: Random falling damage due to lag fixed
Noteable: Falling damage when riding minecarts fixed
Noteable: Enchanted book exploit fixed
Noteable: Slimes have correct collision box
Noteable: Signs no longer lose their text client-side
If nothing serious happens, we intend to release 1.4.3 next Wednesday.
I'm certainly looking forward to the fall damage being fixed
I wonder what this enchanted book exploit is? Thank you at last Mojang for fixing the fall damage and the damage from minecarts and the text on signs. Finally.
Tyranid Horde wrote: I wonder what this enchanted book exploit is? Thank you at last Mojang for fixing the fall damage and the damage from minecarts and the text on signs. Finally.
It's actually somewhat amusing:
Recently on Civcraft, it was reported that a group of players had been killing people with books. To be more specific, the book and quills were being used to kill players in protection 4 diamond armor in 1 or 2 hits; the victims were also set on fire. Needless to say, the players with books of Sharpness 32767 were immediately banned for obvious cheating.
Very quickly, we discovered that the cheaters had simply input a pattern of text into books and upon signing them, the books had absurd enchantments.
n0t_u wrote: I looked it up a little more its not just sharpness 32767, also looting, efficiency etc. Being called the god book.
On the server I play on I haz the same, but then in sword form Hey guys, I just killed my 20th Blaze. Who wants the loot, it's just 2 and half stacks of it..
Use stuff like stone brick to build a wall and to break up the blandness use vines...works for me! (also build an overhang at the top of the wall to stop other players getting in)
I managed to get SMP vanilla to work with a half-decent framerate somehow, so I'm gonna be working on my cliffside fortress for a bit, until either I get a new processor, Java updates to fix the bug, or I can finally manage to get on with a two-digit FPS on tekkit.
Still, I needed to start working on it anyway, os that's okay.

Two digits? You're complaining about two digits?! I used to play minecraft with 5 fps per second, and still outwitted the lagcreeper on numerous occasions! It was hell. Hell I tell you!

I can't seem to log into the server, is anyone here having a problem?
Automatically Appended Next Post: I get:
failed to login: java.io.IOException: Server returned HTTP response code: 503 for URL: (then a load of lettters and numbers).
So I found out my old home had fallen into disarray so in order to fix the problem. I decided to destroy it. And Wipe it from existance. And anyone is able to go in and destroy it. This area can be mined for materials on the surface only but remember once this is done, please cover the area with dirt. and leave some ruins.
Before
AFTER!
Now look at how beautiful it is! I might need help destroying the last bits of it there is a ton of resources and beware! There is a HUGE drop off at one of the gates it reaches all the way down to bedrock, and is REALLY dangerous. This area is also filled with creepers and has an open duengon so the under belly has been flooded for safety.
Same, my whole MC is swarming with mods (Forge, yay!), but I think he means creating mods.
Otherwise, it is easy, just these steps:
1. Download modloader or forge (I suggest forge, it has cooler mods )
2. Open the archive and press the 'windows' button, then type %appdata%
3. Browse to the minecraft folder in %appdata%, and go to the bin folder. Open minecraft.jar with 7zip or WinRaR
4. Paste the forge/modloader files into the Minecraft.jar and delete the META-INF folder in minecraft.jar, then close it.
5. Download the mods you want. Most of these go into the mod folder, wich is in the same place as the bin folder. Paste the mods in the mods folder.
6. If a mods rquires otherwise, paste the files in minecraft.jar
I started working on my personal Space Marine Battle Barge, inspired by the dark apostle's idea. I'll post a vid later today if everything goes just as planned
Yeah that's the 24 that were fixed in 1.4.4, but there were 100 or so fixed in the intermediate & unreleased 1.4.3. So I meant from 1.4.2 to 1.4.4, over 120 bugs had been fixed.
Anyone know if the chest bug (where you tried adding/removing items, and it seemed they moved, but jumped back again to their original locations when you tried to use them), and the stuck-on-running bug got fixed this time?
Ian Sturrock wrote:Anyone know if the chest bug (where you tried adding/removing items, and it seemed they moved, but jumped back again to their original locations when you tried to use them), and the stuck-on-running bug got fixed this time?
It's been recommended by the Mojang team themselves that anyone who has a bug they'd like fixed, sign up for the bug tracker (the link above) and Vote and Watch the bugs that affect them. The more people voting for and watching a particular bug, the more attention it gets and the more likely it is to get fixed.
However, the comments on the bug tracker are intended for constructive information and solutions to the bugs, so don't go posting loads of "Hey this affects me too! When's it gonna be fixed?" comments. That's what the Vote (it affects me) and Watch (when's it gonna be fixed?) buttons are for.
Since discovering it, have you dismantled it or kept it?
For anyone else, this is my longest video, at 24 mins long, so if you don't have time for that, just skip to 15.10 for the result

Hey guys, on the standard server, what's the deal with territory?
I built a little offshore mining rig to search under the sea bed for diamond, fairly close to my stuff and in the middle of some empty water, and I logged in today to find somebody has put a sign on it saying "This is in XXXXX's territory. Please remove the building".
Are they right, do I have to remove it?
For reference, here's a photo. The stuff on the left is mine, my giant tree, seagull and stone circle etc. On the right is my rig. The thing next to it is an empty, abandoned house and after that, nothing but sea.

Matters when was it placed.
If it was placed before...... the entire thing is safe and can stay there. I will allow people to build on my territory as long as they don't mine in the area because I am mining this entire area.
http://www.darkinnit.com/dakkamap/#/-499/64/2883/-3/0/0
But I think there really aren't any. People kinda stole my idea. The reason I am doing it is because I am trying to make an RP kingdom. And make some monuments because I can. And also because I am the only one in that area for a very long time. Seems like I might need to move again.
You can use my old land if you want.....Just tell the current person to get off the land.
I shall send the co-ordinates soon.

You guys both need to read each other's posts, talk to each other, come to an agreement. If you're having trouble with space, move further from spawn (the world is a big place).

As I mentioned several pages back, the water next to Ravenholm (the "abandoned" mansion) is my territory. From that orange buoy to the bridge was all formerly Janje's stuff which I bought from FM Ninja after he was given control of it. Anything you built on the shore is fine.
Quick question, we're told if we're banned/suspended etc right?
It's probably a problem with my minecraft but I can't log into the server. No error message the client just stops responding and I'm forced to close it.
Nope, the banned message is pretty clear (says you are banned).
Error 503 means service unavailable. and as a general rule, any error mentioning Minecraft.net means an error with Minecraft.net, not the Dakka server.
I re-checked the PM Janje(bloodhorror) sent me, he actually doesn't mention the platform at all. No one claimed it, so Janje gets his platform back. Ninja, we also agreed that you'd have the woodamid and I have the maze, the platform never came into this.
I seriously cannot believe that there are four people arguing over what must be a 20 square area of sea, in a nearly infinite world, with certainly no lack of sea/oceans. I think you all need to step back away from the keyboard and get some perspective.
1) Janje you forfeit all your land when you were banned. I do not care how you personally chose to interpret what I said.
2) GangstaMuffin claimed the land/sea/whatever just before the TNT demolitions he did. I don't recall anyone claiming it before then and I have no inclination to search - it is a 20 block square of sea for crying out loud.
If one of you is petty enough to point out it's actually x amount of sea, I really could not care less.
It's not even exactly the nicest bit of sea either.
Let's get one thing straight: The only reason Janje ever built there was because I allowed him to. I was in that area long before anyone else. I could've easily said that his stuff was too close to mine and asked him to move. Now, I didn't because I don't usually care.
As for the platform, I never claimed full ownership over it. I've maintained it since I use the portal frequently. If it's really that big of an issue I'll build my own portal for Ravenholm, but it seems kind of redundant since they are so close.
Edit: At this point, I'd just prefer if no one built anything else over there. I agree with Dark that that area has caused more trouble than it's worth. Move along people, there's plenty of places to build and mine.
They weren't fully mined out, as soon as I started using them, I turned one room into a weird upside down room and another into an enchanting room. Then I moved into the woodamid.
