Well, from what I've heard (through iJevin) there'll be Capacitors (really more like 'current detectors' in a way) and pressure plates will detect the Weight of the item on them (might be Detector Rails only, though). So you can set up a system where an empty minecart will pass, but a loaded one will be diverted or stopped.
Also, unloaders.

I was thinking plasma tech.
I've just managed to create a theoretical plasma weapon, Deus Ex style.
But lasers are good, and grappling hooks are most definitely a good idea.

Was that you wanting Gold for Iron? 'cause I can pay in gold if you want.
Or Zombie Flesh, for dog food. I can pay entire chests of Zombie Flesh for each bar of iron, if you want.

I just need 1 more lot of powered rails to get from my ravine-castle to my mountain hall, and I am missing the gold and can't be bothered searching. So yup, gold for iron. I'll give you three blocks (I've mined some more since I posted that message) for 6 gold bars? Whereabouts on the map are you, I am up for a walk
That'll work. I'm at the Grey Mesa. I'll map it up, but you can also get to me if you follow the Nether route past the Lab towards Melissia's main place.
In that mountainey thing? I'll either be there today or tomorrow. Tally-ho!
edit: OK to the right of the door I came in there are some chests labelled 'suicide chests'. There are 6 blocks of iron in one of them. No one but Anvildude take it please. I'll be waiting around there for ma munneh. I think it is the North Door
Ah, didn't realize you'd gotten there. I'll have your gold in the chests.
The "Suicide" thing is from waaaaay before, on the other map. I'd managed to get my spawn set there, but still didn't have any food-production capability, so I'd just empty my inventory and jump off the Mesa when I was low on hunger.

Wrong, apparently. I was peppered with arrows, and apparently Creepered once I fell down. Just asking if Dark wants to replace my inventory- it's nothing critical, just a lot of smoothstone and some charcoal- stuff that's easy, but takes a long time to get.

i want to go for a bit of a comunity vibe with my server so i would like people who can help push up the standard of building on the server, as always standard rules apply, no stealing, no greifing being polite and the like so if your interested drop me a PM i do only have 12 spaces but i never expect to fill them

Turret mounted plasma cannon?
In all seriousness, a future weaponry mod would just not be complete without:
Laser weaponry
Plasma weaponry
Railguns (still smirking at the backfire thing)
Flux tech or something like that (something that reassembles itself to pass through objects)
Grappling hooks
(And much, much more)
You guys ought to check out PlasmaCraft. It's a relatively new mod, adds acids, plasmids, directed energy weapons of all kinds, and acid TNT, along with a whole host of other stuff. It's pretty neat.
Heh. Looks good.
I'm still working on an actual plasma weapon's theory. I've figured out how to make a plasma generator, now just to shrink it down by a gak ton (fist size) and add electromagnet toroid focuses...
It's all about power and containment. If you can get a program written up that'll be able to dynamically stabilize a magnetic containment field, you ought to be able to achieve fusion at any size- then the issue becomes finding a way to efficiently change that heat energy into electrical energy to run the containment, while also being able to cause controlled breeches of the containment to fire off bits of plasma- the 'barrel' would mostly be for longer-range magnetic containment, which, at this point, would mostly be for keeping the plasma charge from 'blooming' too close to you, and, again, keeping the heat off your hands while holding the weapon.
Or you could loop the breech back into the reactor like a solar bridge- essentially creating a lightsaber.

More accurate term here would be a plasabre.

orkdestroyer1 wrote: Look out! scientist at work! (I can help you with designing)(if the theory works out correctly)
The theory should hold solid. People have made small plasma generators, so all I need to do to that is make a synchronised flux of negative magnetism up the barrel, attracting the plasma along with it and expelling it out. Then I have a plasma gun with a range of 50 odd centimetres.
50 odd centimeters eh? I know gak all about science (as in I'll just mix gak together and see if it will blow up or make a poisonous gas) but if you start off like that would you not be able to bugger round with the barrels magnetic field and try to strengthen it to give the plasma a higher velocity?
And now to keep this somewhat on topic. I really need to get to work on starting the small keep I'm working on.
I've got a fair number of books, and can get quite a bit of wool if you want- whatever color (though white/yellow is easiest). I've got tons of sheep around the Mesa.
Will trade for iron.
Personally, I'd rather figure out a good lightning pack- I'm thinking tons of capacitors in a back mount, which all load with the movements of my body (and the frame attached thereov). I'd settle for a good taser shock from my hands, though I'd prefer if I could get a high enough charge to shoot lightning between my fingers.

Sounds good. When I next catch you on the server we can sort out quantities
by the way the future weapons technology thread has closed so me and mynameisalie have had to result in PM's to sort out plns for design and stuff like that.
We could have two field testers. one for the plasma gun and one for the rail driver. (I shall do work on the rail driver myself as well as helping with the plasma gun) (I shall also makke a thread in the off topic forum called the DSG (dakka science group) for all our plans, reseach, development and testing of these weapons and scientific breakthoughs.

People quit touching my stuff. Just happened to look at the map there. Ok, whoever decided to build on my village make yourself known. I've laid claim to that, and the smaller house to the south (which I was keep as just one building, as I thought it was unique). Now someone's came along and taken over that little house, expanded it, and built a wall to link it to my village. ...All of this on my land. If its BowserGardland then I'll make another point; don't just stick your nether tunnel onto the back of my portal. There was plenty of space to make a new tunnel, what you've done's made the work I planned to do on it an issue now.

I'll check the map but I know I have not touched your village. I was inside it a couple times when trying to sort out my nether portal but I didn't touch anything on the way out.
I mean that this whole section has been just bumped on by someone. Not only did someone edit my original village, but they also claimed an area of my land for their own building too (ie that bit to the south was originally a small hut, now its an empty village). ...You move out to the middle of nowhere, and yet people still mess with your stuff.
The sign's innocent. I meanrly think that it could've been bowser because that its on the way to their portal and next to their stuff. I'd rather someone admit to it and not get dark to check the logs (which I know is a really boring task).
This is a really, really weird situation. I think it's better not to make assumptions though. I also didn't realise that an entire *village* had been built next to Wyrm's land. I've screen-shotted it using the Overviewer and it is just a real mystery because on that picture I've got the *Player Locations* feature on and no-one is there.
EDIT: Apologies for the rather large image. Also: This isn't Wyrms village you're looking at, just to clarify - this is the part that Wyrm is talking about. This entire extra bit has been added onto Wyrms village without his permission. Wyrms village begins north-east of the red circle.
This is what it's about. In terms of the sign - the sign is closer to Bowser's portal so I would personally say that it's merely pointing to *his* village.
However getting back to the image I linked - The red bit is where the person in question has destroyed Wyrm's old wall in order to branch off into an extra village. I really have no doubt that whoever did this had the best intentions, but not only did they not get permission from Wyrm, but they also left random obsidian blocks in his village, which is very strange.
To save Dark having to spend thirty minutes looking through logs, it would be much quicker if whoever built this would own up to it. I was talking with Wyrm in game and he has said that it's not so much that they've done it - It's that they've done it without asking.
Here's something odd. Someone's removed the signs on top of OrkDestroyer's mine. There was about five of them overlooking the spawn, and well now they're not there. I say this because I placed a few of them just saying don't build there.
I mean to say that the signs were there a while ago, now someone's removed them for no apparent reason. Its odd in that I don't see why anyone other than one of the mods would feel the need to...
I'm saying that the signs have only been removed in the last few weeks, months after he was banned. The rest of the signs on his stuff are still there, its just those few signs that I stuck there (ending in ~Wyrmalla). So its not the case that they've been removed because we're trying to remove every last remnant of that user from the server, someone's taken them away for some other odd reason.
I had a look around, it stills says "Orkdestroyer's Mine" above the door. Everything's the same, just the someone's only removed those signs. ...I'm being wierded out by the odd things that have happened whilst I was off for a bit there. =P
I haven't been on vanilla for a bit (I think I'll be getting on tonight, actually), but I grabbed up Orkdestroyer1's land with Darkinnit's permission. I'm still doing quite a bit of renovating.
I'm working on an open pit mine right now, since I don't have any torches to illuminate mine shafts. Once I gather a lot of redstone I'll start building mine shafts. If anyone wants to help, they're welcome to.
Actually, 1 coal generates 8 charcoal. 8 coal makes a stack of charcoal, but then you need a stack of logs, which takes about as long to get a stack of coal in the ground.
I finally picked my gold up anvildude. and double checked. and triple checked. now to walk back. Also, can no one build on the desert near my mountain, I'd like to build a fort near that area.
I don't like having torches all over the floor, but also don't want creepers exploding all the things. If anyone has any suggestions, I'll be happy to hear them!
Doesn't really match the interior unfortunately. I thought about stone half slabs on top of glowstone/lamps/pumpkins, but then it ends up with the grey square grid on the floor and I prefer the smooth stone look..
Probably better with gray wool if you're wanting aethestics, to match the original picture, and because stone looks a bit... plain.
I would say just use textures that make standing torches more discreet or remove their textures altogether, but I guess that still has the issue of it not being visually appealing to others.=/
That or you could just cheat and set the area as a no spawn zone. Hmn, you can do it with the world spawn, so presumably there's a way to do it customly. ...But again, messing with the default game. =P
Anvildude wrote: If Creepers are all you're worried about, you could just park a couple cats in there.
Or, a combination of more torches on the chandelier, and using glowstone/Jack-o-lanterns behind Brick Stairs on the edges of the floor.
Cats don't stop creepers spawning unfortunately, so they would still be a problem. I like the idea with the brick stairs though, I'll try it later, thanks!
Anvildude wrote: Could keep them away from the door, though. Let you pick them off with a bow anytime you went in.
They must have fixed the "bug" where light passed through stair blocks, as it doesn't work now :(
As for the cats, I'd know to pick them off with a bow, but I don't know if I could trust others, who may try to run in and slap them with a melon slice...
I'll stick with torches for now, they're not too obtrusive.
I quite like torches on posts. Make a post from a single block of fence (either wooden or cobblestone). You can't run straight through them like you can a torch by itself, but they don't impede movement as much as a block of stone or whathaveyou.

Yeah, I have that on the ground floor, so will probably also do the same on all the other floors.
Hey folks, could any of you give me some help with Mods? I'm not the most code-monkey of people, and I'm looking to install Minevideo to do some Let's Play-ing.
Alternatively, if you have reccomendations for free or open-source Video and Audio-capture software that's virus-free...
Bandicam is nice to record.
Minevideo is one that needs to be put in the jar?
Type (for windows) after you pressed start %appdata% and browse to the minecraft folder. Open the bin folder, and open the minecraft.jar with winrar or 7zip. Then open the minevideo file too, and drag all the files in tha jar. Delete the META_INF folder in the jar.
Thada.
VLC can do limited converting, but not editing like cuts etc.
Look at Audacity for audio editing/converting and Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 (the free one) for video editing/converting. Those are two programs I use to "clean up" and compress my videos when done.
There's also things like VirtualDub (and another one that the name escapes me at the moment) that are free too.
I use virtual dub to compress my videos before they are edited, and it isn't too bad.

Its good to see more people recording on the dakka server, as of late, I haven't been doing much recording, but if more people started, I'd like to get a good series going with other people.
You don't have any sort of permission from me at all, and as a protest against this, I'm going to be online whenever you are, stalking you in-game and running in circles around you so you can't possibly record without getting me in it! MUWAHAHAHAHA!
This is why I have a Mesa waaaay out in the middle of nowhere. I'll seal it up, and you'll need to deal with the impenetrable walls!
Maybe I ought to install that lava moat after all...
Mostly right now, I need to know how to combine the Video and Audio files- is that the 'converting' you're speaking of? I've experience in theatre, so I'll hopefully not need to really do many cuts, if any, but Minevideo encodes the audio and video in two separate files.
You can combine the audio and video in either VirtualDub or Expression Encoder.
If there's background hiss in your audio (whether from a dodgy microphone or just the sound of your computer fans/air conditioner etc), you can remove that before you add it to the video, using Audacity's noise removal filter.
I haven't watched the video, so forgive me if it's already mentioned, but they've said they're going to try to get that stuff into a 1.4.6 update before Christmas (or at least in time for New Year). The 1.5 update is still coming but will take longer as they're revamping redstone.
Hi guys,
Just wondering whether anyone want's to do a survival series on the dakka server?

D'oh! Forgot. Wanted to get the booty back to base.
Then again, now I'm working on Grindifying my Skele spawner so as to get bonemeal so I can grow trees to get charcoal to make smoothstone from the new stacks of cobble.
Don't know if anyone else has heard of this, but apparently Mojang is releasing a 1.4.6 update before the new year instead of 1.5 like first expected...
Main reason being, for 1.5 they want to redo the redstone mechanics, and it's most likely going to take them at least a month to finish the changes, and Jeb wants to release fireworks before the new year...

See, that's the weird thing. I remember on the 'kill screen' seeing my walls. And my stuff lying around, of course. I felt like it was a Creepersplosion, but again, no damage. Maybe a Skeleton with arrows? And do you know if my stuff's despawned? (I imagine it did.) Was I by a wall?
I logged out, but I'm guessing it was more than 5. Oh well. It was just a bunch of dirt and a couple axes. And 2 stacks of logs. I'd already pretty much run out of cobble.
Oh darn. just remembered, there were, like, 4 stacks of gravel, too.
Dark, at around 6pm today, I died to a zombie pigman next to my portal. When I returned, I only got a very small amount of stuff back, losing my sword and my picks among other things. I checked if some stuff went through the portal but There was nothing left. Maybe I could get a roll back?
EDIT: Scratch that, everything turned up at Coolyo's house...
Hmm, the fireworks are neat; my only qualm is that, even in creative mode, you have to make them, so stuffing dispensors hooked up to redstone signals full of them is still mind-numbingly boring, since dispensors don't treat 1 item as infinite amounts like players do in creative.

The reason you can't get them in creative mode being there are a few million combinations you can make.

The fix being keeping stacks of whatever goes into a creative dispensor as infinite, which is my main issue.
It's absolutely stupid to expect every single possible combination to be available in the menu; it's far from stupid to keep them infinite in dispensors.
We could build a really big park somewhere... but Dark's Castle would also work well. Or the Manor + Beanstalk. Having a few people on top of the Beanstalk setting off fireworks over the Manor could work. I think. I don't quite know how the fireworks work though.
Anyone else's texture's acting up with the latest patch? Zombies and zombie pigmen are displaying as though they've had their UV mapping changed (i.e. the textures are upside down or have holes), whilst armour is showing as the default textures for me.
Ack, I suspect MCPatcher's the route of the issue. Silly me. =)
With options for turnoffs at any place they pass- you're encouraged to donate some rails if you're going to be on the route, but it's not completely necessary.
Also, I have ideas for fancier looking station areas, and various other things.
The purpose of the rail line is going to be large-scale mass transport; either letting multiple people ride at once, or allowing for the transportation of hundreds of stacks of materials at once.

As some of the better fireworks require silly ingredients like diamonds, glowstone, blast charges and gold nuggets (as well as copious amounts of gun powder), I'll happilly MCEdit in some dispensers full of pre-made firework stars. As you can't un-craft them back into diamonds and all they do is go poof, I have no qualms about providing copious amounts of them. I've already made a fair amount as I was stuck on a long boring train journey earlier.
So don't waste any of your own diamonds, nuggets, blast charges etc.
Check when I joined the server, I started building it that night...
If you mean the garden bit at the top I'd say a week or three on and off though. I don't start with much of a plan on what to build, so all the bits tend to just form into something. (I still have my original dirt hut in the basement btw).
Of course just bunking little bits on all the time does lead to me having a load of unifinished bits... I.e. I'm working on my garden whilst I still have to finish the wall around my home, or that little fortress thingy. =P
*And oh, if it came accross that I was chucking you out last night I uh... Well I didn't want you to die in my door. ...People tend to do that every now and then (even after I removed the arrow dispensors).
Just putting this out there, I'm not sure what the standard protocol is.
I'm decently far way from spawn, and I'm looking for an enchanting table set up in my "home".
I can create the book, but I'm still short the diamonds and the obsidian (or at least the means to mine obsidian, cause I do know how to make it)
If someone has a project going on that requires cobblestone, would you be willing/interested in my time and cobblestone for your 3 diamonds and 4 obsidian? if you'd be willing to trade those items, I'm more than willing to give up stacks of cobble.
Also I've had Minecraft since summer of 2011, I just couldn't play it from fall of 2011 until Christmas Eve when I got a computer that could handle it (If that make's you cry, I understand, my netbook wasn't good for such things).

In another note, I found a deep cave in my mining adventures Explored it already, nothing of note but a zombie. Everything has been "cleared out" and it's time to start mining
Automatically Appended Next Post: So I ended up finding this HUGE cavern... like... I've wasted a stack of torches illuminating this place... I've found lapis, gold, diamond, red stone... all the cobble one could want... and then minecraft froze on me
...I died yesterday with almost a stack of diamonds and full diamond armour plus sword, all enchanted. (I'd been through two large carvern systems at least)
Its annoying that I fell in lava, swam about for a good while, and couldn't jump outsomehow. =/

I had died and lost all those ender pearls you gave me :(
Just go to Abso's Citadel for more. (and don't place them next to your food when exploring. I kept flinging myself about accidently that way and almost killing myself)=P
To get there go to the spawn portal nether side, face away from the chests, walk forward from there till you hit a wall with rails then turn right and follow the rails into the next room. Once in Abso's place head into the main room upstairs and there's a set of stairs heading down at its other end past the piano. Down there you'll see an End Portal and once in the end go behind the house and take the rails to the Enderman Grinder.
So, my further adventures in Minecraft LPing. I've gotten Audacity and MSExpression Encoder4, and I'm now attempting to use them to combine the audio and video (.wav and .avi I think) files that Minevideo records, in order to get a single file I can upload to YouTube. However, I may be able to simply add the audio in YouTube's built-in system. I'd prefer the single video format, however.
I use VirtualDub for video editing, resizing, cropping, frame rates etc. You can also find compression software to go with whatever. If I remember right there is no need to have video above 30FPS for Youtube.
I managed to get my hands on a copy of Windows Movie Maker, so I can now combine the audio and video- and in High Definition, too. All I need to work on now is framerate tweaks and figuring out how to clean up my voice using Audacity.
Jeb pointed out in a tweet that the "pick block" action (default middle mouse button) can be used to clone items in the inventory. This makes it much easier to mass produce fireworks.
I've put together the device below. It contains six dispensers all filled with 576 fireworks each (so 3456 fireworks in total). I've made it so each dispenser contains 9 unique fireworks, so that's 54 unique fireworks.
The redstone is set to fire off each dispenser one after the other in a loop and can be toggled on and off. I just messed about till I got something working, so I'm sure it could be simplified or improved, but eh, it works.
I will try to import several of these devices to various locations in the Dakka vanilla world tonight, ready for tomorrow (as Australians start celebrating New Years before the rest of us). I'm happy to do many devices as there are many timezones and fireworks just go poof so it's not going to ruin the economy or game etc.
If you want to do your own display or timing, feel free to rip the device apart and use the fireworks in your own redstone setup. But if you just want a lever to flick at midnight, it's all set:
Spoiler:
I'll try to place them around some popular locations (and will say where when I've done them), but if you want to request one to be put somewhere, please say so in the next couple of hours, preferably with coordinates or a map link.
Cool. I'll just boost the volume of the track before uploading it, then. I can at least do that much. I remember when Jevin was first doing vids, and he was so quiet I'd have to max YouTube and system volume just to make him out- switching to anything else was a bit of a shock, for sure.
People who asked last night when I was online should also find launchers at their places.
If the timing circuit is already running, you don't need to touch the first switch, just the upper switch to toggle launching on/off. The fireworks fire at a rate determined by the timing circuit in the middle. If you want them to fire more slowly, just adjust the repeaters to have a longer delay (right click). However, at the default rate, with the quantity of fireworks loaded, it should continuously fire for at least five minutes (estimated, not timed).
Again, the launchers are just a serving suggestion, feel free to take them apart and make your own displays.
The launcher goes on for a fair bit longer than 5 minutes. I had to set it back to night at least twice.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, if your launcher is quite high up (like Docta's) you should turn off Clouds in the Video Settings, as Minecraft doesn't render the fireworks that go above the clouds. Also use the default texture pack if your current texture pack doesn't include fireworks yet.
I actually do have a beard. Mustache and Goatee, as a matter of fact. And I'm planning on some goggles. Eventually. Once I can find a place that'll make custom prescription safety lenses that are perfectly round.
I don't think I'll be setting mine off quite yet, but I'll probably take the launcher and do a Zamperla style fireworks display with mine. We get them every year here.

Well now it has a fireworks launcher on its roof
Just try to keep the creepers away from it
I won't be logging on until tomorrow, so unless they blow it up while I'm logged off, then I think I'll be okay
Dr. What wrote: I'm curious as to how fireworks would look from the top of my Vanilla tower...
May I request the resources to try it out? (just under 8 hours until midnight!)
All set.
Just remember that you should turn off clouds in the Video Settings in the Minecraft options (otherwise the fireworks just vanish as soon as they touch the clouds).
I'll restock the Suburbia and Manor launchers if any others want to use them.
n0t_u wrote: I'm curious as to how they'd look in the City of Ghost, but I'm sure there's enough for me to just take them there myself anyway.
Yeah, the system is movable if you put half the fireworks in an enderchest, the other half in your inventory, and all the redstone, dispensers, pistons etc in the hotbar.
n0t_u wrote: Hmm so I finally log back in to find my butler gone and those ticking machines about...
I just want to point out that I only dropped off the fireworks launcher. I did not hear any ticking (because I was using mcedit), nor do I know what your butler is.
The last person I saw messing with ticking machines was Sky_slasher....
For anyone who missed the fireworks on NYE -- I have a launcher on the roof of the Beanstalk (in the lake, next to the Mansion), which I persuaded Dark to put in place for my birthday tonight. Not sure precisely when we'll be setting them off, but probably sometime around 9pm tonight (GMT).

Yep, and half of what I needed to start my iron grinder. For all I know he could have found a way out and wandered off while people were messing around there though. All my vegetables in my garden had grown completely from saplings so it would have been a while. Just have to drag in a new on somehow...
Also since heads are just decorative and wither skulls are the only heads available outside creative mode, would it be possible to trade wither skulls for the others?

I'm very tempted to build a fireplace, then mount a player's skull on my mantle...Shrike?

Hmm, as mob skulls are easily obtained through creative mode, I guess I'd be ok with swapping them for wither skulls. However, as player skulls require editing in the NBT value of the player name, then (EDIT: actually don't need importing in mcedit - can just edit a player inventory file) and finally uploading to the server, I think a higher price is required. Perhaps a wither skull and an additional item or two... Or perhaps player skulls should only be rewarded for very specific things, to maintain their rarity?
I thought that said nether "ORCS" for a minute and got very excited.
Not so much anymore =(
No but we do have new things like
Redstone Blocks (Finally)
Nether Quartz (Should hopefully make a new set of armor please do this.... So many like utlity items but no powerful items yet :( and thorns so what.)
Nether Bricks!
Nether Brick
Netherrack + coal = nether bricks!
Sun Dialed lamps (can make a circuit where you can inverse so it turns on only at night and off during the day very useful for your villages)

hmm? *innocent face*
I'd quite like some heads of players... maybe if you fight and kill someone in the arena, you receive their head? That'd be a nice incentive to go there nowadays...
More info..... And awesomeness also for mob spawn killer things we can have it all stuck into our chests while we don't have to stay at that location the entire time
I don't see the point of trapped chests- It'd be useful in the old, pre-1.8 minecraft, but as-is, if there's any wiring or such behind or below it, you can see it quite clearly.
This makes me sad as I love the idea of it.
This new update is going to be good for suburbia. Depending on how that hopper works as well with chests the trapped chest can be used for an interesting farm.

in a dark dungeon it might be a clever trap.
true, just would've worked better if chests were a whole block.
also, it's effectiveness depends on how popular it is- if you get them in every house, people will keep an eye out for 'em. If no one uses them because of aforementioned flaw, people won't be looking for them, and it could, possibly, actually make up for its own flaw, because of its own flaw.
Unlikely, but I like the idea
