Actually, I just got the best idea. Remember that bulky piston train system? These blocks may make it possible to have an extremely compact version which requires next to no resources.
Skycrawler wrote:Dungeon Delver here, is there anywhere on the server that is ok for me to claim for building/ resource gathering?
Have a look at the map - http://www.darkinnit.com/dakkamap - and just try not to build too close to anyone as you may interrupt their plans for expansion (or you may find your own plans for expansion cut short). Generally if you're at a location you like and can't see anything built by someone else, with your Video settings set to "far" render distance, it's a good start. I do like the intermingled community projects like Suburbia etc, but it seems most people prefer their own space.

I may be willing to sprinkle some here and there in the nether, depending on how they add it (I'm assuming it will only appear in new chunks like Emerald Ore), but the 1.5 update is a long time off just yet, so we'll see what happens.
The hopper is cool, I'd started using the Buildcraft one just the day before and thought it was neat, so glad to see it's making it into vanilla. What I really want to see in vanilla are the crafting tables that allow you to keep things on them if you've forgotten to get that last item from the chest. I don't want the extra stuff like Redpower plans or automated crafting, I just don't want to have to remove everything or have it fall on the ground because I'm one iron ingot short etc.
As for the trapped chests, they output more redstone power the more people are looking in them at once, so they could also be useful for multiplayer adventure maps, or for say an alarm that goes off if someone is spying on your chest while you're looking in it yourself. I'm sure people will come up with lots of crazy ideas.

Could make a portal relay out to some new nether chunks anyway.
Also, Not_U, there's supposedly going to be a Railway/Cart update coming, with a bunch of fancy things. That'll help the most for mass transit.
However, this has given me an idea- if it might be possible to have a system with a separate booster or turnoff track meant to allow a single cart (or two) to split off? Not really useful, but could be neat.

We ought to build a massive railway
Well if I get around to working on the city more it's own railway system will be improved. This also means if you hook up your railway it can be used to ship out villagers.

I'm hopefully far out enough to do just this, but if not, time ta move D
Which Tundra, Skycrawler? Because if it's by the Mesa, I have to warn you that I have plans for MASSIVE future expansion projects.
Also, Dark, had to go AFK for family things, and when I got back I was dead and I think all my items despawned. This was pretty much an entire inventory full of smoothstone- any way you could help out?

It's fine if you want to build there, but it'd probably be best if you checked with me first- I have plans for rings of walls, essentially- you'd want to build in between if you're living there. Or if you're far enough out- just keep out of the line of the railway that'll be coming through.

I'm very tempted to build a fireplace, then mount a player's skull on my mantle...Shrike?
hmm? *innocent face*
I'd quite like some heads of players... maybe if you fight and kill someone in the arena, you receive their head? That'd be a nice incentive to go there nowadays...
My goal: Acquire ~10 skulls. 1/2 of my own head (for those "Obey! Schellan sees all!" signs) and 1/2 of Shrike's skull. So I can mount one on my fireplace and make "Wanted, Dead or Alive" signs.
Well I already have two wither skulls... takes a while to get them, but the coal makes it worth it.

It was around -2030x, 2080z.
If you have to dash away from the computer and aren't somewhere safe, don't forget the "Disconnect" button isn't that far away, or ALT+F4 if you're in an extreme hurry. That said, I might be willing to give a partial amount back, as long as you start disconnecting instead of going afk in dangerous places.

Hmm, that sounds a good idea. One wither skull can be traded for any other mob head, but two wither skulls can be traded for one player head of your choice. Sound fair?
Also as for the duck, when I put it there you couldn't do the other trapdoor orientation. That was added later and I didn't think of it.
A player's head of our choice without having to ask the owner of said head's permission first? I imagine one day walking into a basement somewhere to see the heads of everyone on the server stacked neatly like in some pixelated horror movie.
...On a lighter side it would spice up the museum a tad. =P

Was that just a plain Star Wars reference, a reference to your mockery of me via the Imperial Theme, both, or something completely different?
erm, just a plain star wars reference, nothing to do with you, Dr Va- er, Dr What...
I may need more Shrike skulls, as some will be on the mantle, and some will be in the fire now...
In that case, I may need more X-wings...
If you're building X-wings, then I'm crossing fictional dimensions and grabbing a Dalek fleet.
On a side note, now I really want to set about building a TARDIS at SchellCo, possibly with a teleporter that sends one to some sort of control room (which must be much bigger than the exterior of the TARDIS!).

Thank you! Now I can build an elaborate redstone system that grinds other players should they try and enter my lands.
So, I got my FTB working, and I would like to pre-launch propose our first community project.
Considering there is Portal Guns and Gravity Guns in the Direwolf pack within FTB, I thought it would be a good idea to create a Minecraft equivalent of Aperture Sience.

ah, but a few key things you're missing:
- It'd take several stacks worth of TNT to blow the manor up.
- There is an underground bunker.
- I'm not there right now- I'm at dark's castle (good luck getting away with that one).
- There is a two-metre wide thermal exhaust port leading directly to your reactor system.
- There are several other players residing in various guest rooms- you'd be destroying their houses too.
- There are iron golem security guards.
- In tekkit, I have arguably the most protective nuclear bunker on the server.
What are the possibilities of us getting some starting materials on a FTB server? I remember that on the switch from Beta to 1.0, we were allowed to transport structures. Now, anything from EE will be out, so many machines on the Tekkit Server are invalidated, meaning that a building copy is not so useful. In addition, people will just use EE to quickly run off things, stash them in chests and have them copied.
I think that some form of starting resources is a good idea. I'd like to run the idea up the flagpole and see who salutes it. Maybe a single chest of low-tier items and tools- nothing too advanced, just a few bits and bobs.
What say you, Dakka in general, and Darkinnit in particular? Feel free to shoot me down in flames if you disagree.

I don't think transferring structures would be good, but how does this sound:
You can bring 1 item with you, be it a stack of diamonds, a piece of armor, or even a single piece of dirt.

I'm sorry, but I don't agree. 1 item isn't enough to really have any effect on a player starting out, because if it's low-level, it's easily obtainable, and if it's high-level, by the time you get to the stage where you can use it, you can easily make it anyway. I say everyone should get some compensation for their time spent on the server that's going to be deleted- I think everyone getting the same starting materials for the new server (rubber, copper, some basic tools, maybe more advanced stuff like macerators and solar panels).
Personally I'm against it because I don't see anything wrong with tekkit and I've already restarted doing tekkit 3 times, and I really don't want to have to do it again (hence consolidation kickstarters), though I'm not one for the technical side of running minecraft, and apparently tekkit isn't getting the same support, so maybe that's a huge inconvenience for dark.

Not sure, might be easiest to just install FtB (or just Mystcraft), edit the config to disable instability, then pop into Creative mode (so you unlock all age symbols immediately), write a Skylands age, then pop back into Survival and throw yourself into the void .
Thing is, when you 'Pick block" on monster spawners, it doesn't get you the existing spawner. It just goes straight to Pigs. I imagine Silk Touch would work much the same.
Still, it'd allow for much, much safer Exp grinders, I think.
Anvildude wrote: Thing is, when you 'Pick block" on monster spawners, it doesn't get you the existing spawner. It just goes straight to Pigs. I imagine Silk Touch would work much the same.
True, but they have been fixing bugs left, right and centre, as well as implementing new mechanics (such as anvils and enchanted books), so it's possible they may be changing that behaviour. Or they might still only be making it possible for adventure map makers who use MCEdit and NBTEdit to modify the spawner properties.
Still nice to see them implementing more different cart set ups though. Probably won't see any glowstone carts until they get the new rendering engine finished though, as moving light is not possible in the current rendering engine.
So, Darkinnit (or anyone else who wants to help- I'm okay with doing this by hand, but it'll take for freaking ever, and is just soul-crushing, if it's needed); You're a pretty awesome OP, right? Yeah, definitely.
So, I may possibly have messed up massively with a portion of the outer wall of the Mesa I'm building for a train station. I mis-measured it, and built it a block off. Then I went and built another separate section and that may or may not be a block or two off. I'll do some measuring, but the point stands. I've built enough that I'll probably go through about a dozen or more stone picks, and more shovels to move it- this is about a week's worth (or more) of work, that's just the tiniest bit off. It's depressing as Netherdeaths, and it'd be great if I could get help re-positioning it. If this involves Dark doing some worldedit, or just people coming by to help demolish it. I can easily re-smelt the smoothstone, it's just the mining that's gonna be terrible, and I kinda don't want to actually break the entire structure, since I built it.
Again, I'll be doing some re-measuring, but it's definitely off by at least a block, and that's just, just. Eurgh.
Unfortunately I don't have time this week to assist you (if time does come up I'll be happy to help).
However, how about this:
I'll reward any players that help you with your task with a decorative player head (or heads) of their choice.
In order to prevent people just turning up, mining a few blocks and then claiming they helped, you can PM me to say who deserves heads. I'd say the more work they do, the more heads they can have (up to say... 10 or so).
But yeah, that'd work pretty well. I'll mark out an area with jack-o'-lanterns, and anyone who shows up can just level whatever is inside, down to the closest cleanstone level. That'd work really well.
Automatically Appended Next Post: The Mesa is at -2000x 2000z (or close). Or, find the Lab portal, and I'll have signs from there.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Well, the demolition has be completed. Many thanks to Wyrmalla, Ma55sterfett, and Fireshade for their help. And my next project (/co-project) will be clearing up the Netherpath to the Mesa. Shoulda done that a while ago, really.
And now back to the drawing board, and the smelting oven.

Ma55ter_fett wrote: Could I just get 2 wither skeleton heads instead of a player head?
Daddy wants a buff pyramid but has to summon and best the tri-headed block monster first.
Yes, if you do the following first:
1) Find a suitable location for the fight (i.e. very far away from any occupied lands and preferably a boring biome (desert plains?).
2) Build at least one correctly linked portal in the center of the biome, but deep underground.
This allows you to return to the scene of the fight if you die, without luring the wither closer to where-ever you came from (when the wither has nothing to shoot, it sits still). Building it deep underground with a ladder to the surface lowers the chance the wither will destroy the portal (but doesn't guarantee it).
3) Let me know the coords of your chosen location.
4) Let me know when you're going to fight it so I can watch and laugh (and possibly record it too).
If you are unable to defeat the Wither, I will not destroy it, I'll just ensure it remains lured in that biome and others can try their luck at getting the star. Of course if someone does lure it away too close to occupied lands, I will destroy it and no-one gets the star.
What if we make it a community event and we spawn two or more then Dark thinks about throwing out extra stars to minimize world damage? Just throwing the idea out there, we provide the skulls for it all.
You should put bedrock around the area so he can't escape. and a portal to get there. We need a team of the best of the best.
Thank fully I have a chicken farm for arrows. I have 1k feathers waiting for use! Anyone want any!
I'd say this first one is up to Ma55terfett, as he may want to fight it on his own.
Then after that if "teams" want to provide skulls and fight the Wither, they can do so too.
I had a thought that if you want to minimise world damage, fight it in a shallow swamp. The water wiould mitigate most damage, but would slow you down of course too.
As long as a suitable location is selected, there's no need for a bedrock container. Makes it a better challenge if you can't pin the Wither against a wall. If I did need to stop the Wither, I can just make a small 5x5 bedrock wall and stand between it and the Wither in creative mode and kill off the Wither. The bedrock wall behind me would help stop destruction of the surrounding world. (In theory anyway)

only problem is that he can even destroy obsidian.... Which is crazy.
So he needs to find somewhere very far removed from society in order to do it.
That's what I thought until I went on creative to find out what happens if you make an obsidian arena, and put mob spawners in the ground beneath for some sort of cage match.
The Wither spawned, blasted the arena to bits, and escaped.
I also discovered that the only mob really capable of fighting back against a Wither (without resorting to penning the Wither in) is a Blaze; they're the only mobs that can fly, have a ranged attack, and can take more than 1 direct hit from a Wither projectile. Skeletons don't survive the first hit and Ghasts aren't aggroed by them; all the rest have no ability to fight back against a Wither, either because they lack ranged weapons or because they can't take more than 1 hit. Yet to try out SNowmen, but I doubt they could do much.

Hey, remember that we're not really planning on using Booster tracks. So Gold's not as big an issue. (the booster tracks really, really mess up the cohesion of the 'train', and just plain don't work right with furnace carts.)
Now, if the next new update has a way to link carts together, then we'll be able to use Booster rails. But for now, save the gold.
As would it be easier in the long run seeing as all a person would need to use the rails would be a cart (instead of a cart a furnace and a hell of a lot of coal...). The issue would be though that you may wind up going so fast with powered rails that stopping at a station could be problematic...
This system isn't really for people, though. People just use the Nether.
This is for transporting massive amounts of items all at once- for which you need 'trains' of chest carts- stopping and starting all of them, and making sure they all are moving at the same speed and don't bump each other (which will stop them or send them backwards) is only really possible with a very precise timing system (near impossible in SMP) or by pushing them all at once with a furnace cart.
And it'd be rather easy to retrofit if they put in 'linked carts' by putting gold rails down after. You don't need nearly as many gold rails as you need iron ones.
In a few minutes time, Ma55terfett will be fighting the Wither boss. As the Wither can and will attack up to three targets at a time, I'll be live streaming it for those who want to see it without being killed. Livestream will be at:
I managed to somehow watch the live stream just before you started the fight, it was quite fun watching the poor guy running around being constantly bombarded, dare I so it though I was kinda hoping for the Wither.......

Sorry to disapoint
Also there seems to be a large box blocking the video... or is it just me?
Hmn, it would seem one cannot make a golem with your own head. And here's me wanting some evil robot thing trapsing about blowing up the server. Ah a guy can dream...
Also, a easter egg for those naughty persons that happen to kill me...
I don't use bonemeal for that purpose anyhow, but its a tad annoying that they felt the need to impliment it so as to complitment the new dispenser functionality (it to stop mass harvesting of crops). Why they would feel the need to reign in such spamming is questionable though seeing as how easy it is to set up any other farming system (though with the dispensers you could say get a grinder and set it up to constantly drop bonemeal).
Ah that's why, through the power of the unicorn fairy, we use pistons to crush the bones into a fine paste. Said paste would then be branded suitably so as to not infringe on the bonemeal copyright of course. =P

StormWarriors
I will try to get it into an enders chest and drop it off at Sky Slashers house
Im just interested, seeing as how, if it's not owned by anyone any more ill expand in that direction, as opposed to twards admiral's
I remember that that was where we split some loot after some dungeon devling once. I don't think it had the farm when I was last there though, but it was night. However seeing as its not been expanded on, and the chest/crafting bench haven't been moved I'll assume that it hasn't been touched in months.
One of the previous ones I saw required you (the OP) to willingly connect to the attackers' dodgy minecraft server first so they could steal your Mojang session. As I had no intention of joining any other servers it was nothing to worry about.
The other one involved a flaw in Mojang's authentication, so that was something to worry about, but it was patched.
If you can send me even some vague details, I can assess whether it's a real threat, and/or put in measures to prevent it.
We also do both local and remote backups, so even worst case scenario, would just be a rollback
Bad joke, bad joke.
I'll try to get some more info of the other guys, I wasn't present at the moment it happened, but the whole world got spong'ed with worldedit, so yeah..
Oh it's something that only affected your server? Bear in mind that if you're running a cracked server, it's not authenticating with Mojang's servers, so you need a decent authentication plugin to prevent people gaining op.
If there's a known vulnerability in your authentication plugin, or if your server doesn't have one at all, you're likely to get burned.
Okay, I'm actually really really in need of....more stone, either stone bricks or clean stone. If you want to help me with demolishing the hillside next to my castle, just give me a PM.

I have a fair bit of stone available -- been hollowing things out for a while now...
Don't think you can. Slimes spawn at any light level. They drown in the water though and don't appear able to get out. So that's one option, make the swamp entirely water... Not really an ideal solution...
It was a route I started making to spawn. It doesn't go into the statue's bum, but actually goes underground at that point (to avoid running through all the spawn buildings).
I was going to have it have a rail on it with a station at spawn, ready for the new minecart stuff in 1.5
I'm personally a fan of circuit systems- a 1 direction loop that looks like 2 tracks per section- one going each way. Makes station-keeping easier, and it's possible to set up a non-interference station system, as long as people are smart about it (or possible with the new Rail and Redstone systems, I think).
Don't worry about blocking up the tunnel, I think I only opened up the wall to make sure I was using the correct height to match your system. I think you were planning on using coal carts so they push multiple carts at once?
I was thinking of maybe having some kind of junction (there are various systems possible), or we could just have the track turn there and follow alongside your track. Whichever.
I mainly ran that path all the way out there without doing anything else to it to wait and see if anyone had any objections. It's been there for a few weeks now, so I'd say it's safe to start making it look more like your rail system. (Unless anyone does have any objections?)
One of the neat new features in the latest snapshot is that if you log out or disconnect while in a minecart, when you login again, you'll still be in the minecart (in the same spot though). So that's a nice touch if we're putting together such a large system, less runaway or lost carts.
Yep, in case you missed the announcement a few posts back, the server address got changed to:
mc.dakkadakka.com
So update your entry in the Multiplayer list if you haven't done so already.
Sucks. With the various medical bills amongst family and pets I've helped pay for, I haven't really been able to upgrade my computer this year. And with my processor seeming to be really showing its age (lots of CPU usage leaks and the like), I haven't been able to play minecraft without incredible CPU lag.
@Melissia, sorry if you already know this, but if you close *everything* else on the PC, and then select the javaw process in Task Manager and assign it High priority, MC runs a lot more smoothly (it's the most reliable way I can get mine to run without CPU lag).
Automatically Appended Next Post: (You need to have MC running before you can select javaw, natch)
And would logging off whilst in a minecart remove the cart as well, or would it carry on going down the track? Just wondering how it would work, and perhaps if someone could say come along and redirect the rail into a hole full of clowns or the like...

Apparently you "take the cart with you". As for redirecting the track, they can already do that.
It's not too new, I started building it some time ago but have been on a forced break from Minecraft due to University deadlines and dissertations. Not to mention how long it is taking me to collect enough nether Brick to keep going with it. (my ign is storm_lord92) It's not in the way of anything is it? I was pretty sure everything in the immediate area was mine
Oh no its not in the way or anything. I was just surfing about the map during some downtime in class today and came across it. Just hadn't noticed it before is all. =)
Hurrah! Maybe it'll prompt me to start playing minecraft again. I hate these pre releases that take ages to come out then I can never remember what is in the game and what isn't.
That's because nobody ever bothers to make enchanted diamond axes.
Also, it's rather fun to make Oak-tree cubes. You can plant Oak saplings right next to each other and they'll all grow into each other and through the leaves of the one next to/above it.

Hey I played skyblock and skyblock advanced, i know most of the tricks. Cobblestone generators, easy ways to build stuff with little trouble. Also mob spawners (Effective) and a few other hundred tricks i learned from it.
But yeah, diamond axes are quite useless as fortune does nothing to help the axes.
Pick axes yes.
And swords.
I'll help on the journey. I'm planning on finding a new chunk, and just strip-mining the thing up to bedrock and down to Void. If I can, I'd love to be able to actually re-name the Grey Mesa to the White Mesa. Or at least the inner Keep. Just sheathe it in Quartz.
Or use the pillar blocks, that'd be neat too.
Also, we'll need to see what can be done with pressure plates, chest carts, detector plates, signal thingummies, and all that. I'm getting some ideas...
What do you think- could we use a Comparator to determine how many carts are on the track, and so only push that many rails aside? I'll have to do some testing, I think...
Well, having been out on a trip, I was able to return with just over three stacks of Quartz, so I was pretty satisfied with it. Just remember to take a Fortune pick with you, helps no end with the collecting
So, I have either discovered a weird glitch or someone nicked several paintings from my house... Anyone else have paintings go missing after the update?
Edit: Just looked it up. Appears to be a bug. Can be fixed by logging in and out.
Hmn, will have to check out the way texture packs work now. Previously I was editing the one file by hand (which I'm sure is the stupid way), but just having to paste in a single square for each block seems much more efficient.
I need to test out 1.5 before I can (hopefully) make an entirely vanilla CTF server...but i need to find a way to make profit while keeping the server entirely vanilla. (as you have to pay for server hosting) any ideas? (as i cannot use the thing where you pay to get a special class as it is not vanilla) the only idea i got was typing in the text box 'like this server?...well keep it alive by visiting (insert web address here)!'
Oooh, that's a lot of quartz and not much lava... anyone up for a mining trip on Saturday sometime? Preferably finishing by around 10.30pm GMT at latest?
I think there is still all the lava, just you're only seeing the top layer of the nether there. I think the overviewer map renderer hasn't taken into account a new change in 1.5:
"Changed the Nether cave generator to that of the Overworld
Fixed cut off caves"
Basically cave tunnels (not the huge caverns) in the nether now generate like they do in the overworld. Like that warren of tunnels we were in when the zombie pigman turned hostile
You still get the huge caverns, but I think the new tunnel warrens above the caverns are blocking out the map's usual display of the caverns below.
Well I know that you cannot break stuff in adventure mode and with the new scoreboard command you can set teams so no team killing and also I want to make a small profit (I take business studies for GCSE's) as well as covering the costs....I have around £100 to start the server off on a small cheap server hoster (any good ones...tell me) and once the server is slightly popular I could do a couple of "create a map" days where people get to create maps for a small fee (like 99p) and have those maps set into the server forever. I also thought about a donator room where you are able to to post ideas about maps and taunt players in the prison (if the players hack on the server) and if you donate quite alot of money (such as £25) you get to be part of the staff of the server. It will also be team deathmatch not CTF. and some map ideas are...atlantis (underwater battle),illuminati temple(fire and lava everywhere),skyscraper(verticality!) and floating islands (the base server map will be superflat so it shouldnt be hard to make world holes.

Cool. Means i have to upgrade my house to be redstoned powered only now redstone off during the day and redstone on during the night.
Jambayemon and I have colonized Paradise Island (-400, -4000 or so), and made a portal there, but it lands us out in the middle of nowhere in the Nether (-60, 85, -496). Does anyone know off-hand which direction we should be building towards in the Nether to join up with the rest of the built, colonised area of Nether?
Yeah, I do know that, though I find the nether map really hard to use! Thank you.
Yeah, we ended up heading through the nether fortress. Looks like it's Wyrmalla's?
Wyrmalla, are you OK with us using the fortress as a route to connect the new portal up to the rest of the nether complex? We don't plan to take any netherbrick away, or mess with your blaze spawner (assuming it's yours) -- just head around that area & through the fortress.
From what I understand the Fortress acts like a biome, so if you go through those chunks you'll still get blazes and wither skeletons even if you're not actually in the fortress. I could be wrong though.

Minecraft wiki (the "nether" entry, and the "wither skeletons" entry, at least) seems to indicate that lighting up the nether does affect spawn rates for everything other than zombie pigmen and slimes.
